  1. @@kellyrit Wow I think you win the prize for farthest away from most of us lol. Great having you. Join in we are still getting to know each other.
  2. @@Jenaenae84 I just finished watching your youtube videos thanks so much for sharing. I have subscribed to your channel. I am so happy you got through all that and are now with us in the October group. I look forward to seeing your progress.
  3. Now I have more reasons to Celebrate when I get down to 350 pounds. Thursday I was trying to get my Cardiac clearance. He wanted me to do a stress test and echocardiogram. He informed me that because there treadmill can only handle 350 pounds and below that I would have to be injected instead. Friday I went in for the first day of the stress test and the echocardiogram but they told me when I checked in that they would not be able to perform the echocardiogram because...wait for it...there tables only handle up to 350 pounds. So now I once again have to go to the hospital for this as well. I do hope this surgery is a success because then I can start dreaming again. I don't know what I want to do when I lose the weight because I have failed at keeping the weight off so many times that I can't even dream about it. It sounds weird to say that but it is how I feel. I am working on losing the same 35 pounds I have lost numerous other times only to gain it back and more. I told my wife that I lost 10 pounds in 4 days from the pre-op diet and she said she wanted to lose that much weight at one time. I told her she could. All she needed to do was increase her weight to 400 pounds and she too could have a chance to lose that much weight. She didn't like that idea.
  4. I love seeing all the October surgeries. As I have said I am already on the pro-op diet. I went to the doctor and they weighed me. In 4 days I lost 10 pounds. The hardest thing I find at the moment is not to jump on the scale daily. I have decided that I would like to only weigh myself once a week. For me that will be Sunday morning. After surgery this will really become hard because I will be losing so much weight daily. I would like not to get caught up in the daily emotional up and downs.
  5. @@edie091371 Nervous not so much , obsessive absolutely. Yes I am watching youtube videos nonstop as well. Currently working through all of the Lesstolove videos. I am more worried about NOT getting dumping from sugar AND fat. Of course after surgery it wouldn't surprise me if I complained about that after surgery. That is awesome that both of you will be having surgery. @@Laughingmyassoff2015 do you mind sharing your blogging. I would be interested for sure. Ok I see you already did cool (laughingmyassoff.squarespace.com) I will be going there after I finish the lesstolove videos. @@kellyrit cool another for 6 October. Where are you having your surgery?
  6. So on the 6th we have three surgeries going. We have one in Arizona (eubanks2013), Missouri (thinner-me), and Virginia (me). Hmm it would be interesting if someone could figure out where all the October surgeries will be.

  8. Now we are getting them rolling in lol. Starting to look like we have of us few going on 6 October. @@edie091371 do you mind me adding you as well? @@BayGal you are having surgery the same day I am as well. Where are you having surgery if you don't mind me asking? @@Laughingmyassoff2015 where are you are having surgery? I couldn't get my gall bladder sonogram done until the 22nd of September. With my pre-op appointment on the 23rd I was worried because it takes them 3 days to read it and the paperwork said I had to have everything complete and results into the doctor before the pre-op appointment. The first lady that answered the phone said yep that is correct. The second lady I talked to said it would be ok as long as there is nothing on the sonogram. Ugh I hate when you don't know it will take a while to get things scheduled! If I had known I would have scheduled it earlier. I waited because it needs to be done within 30 days. But my doctors office, where they do sonograms don't have tables that can handle 390 pounds! They only go up to 350 pounds. So I had to go to the hospital to get mine. Well after my surgery that won't be a problem any longer How is everyone doing?

  11. @@Knitchic thank you. How did your appointment go? Did you calm down before it? Or did the doctor calm you as you spoke about the upcoming surgery?
  12. @@thinner-me cool were will you have yours? Do you mind if I try to friend you on Facebook? I will warn you I am new to Facebook so I may be slow. @ awesome! We need to figure out how to meet up. We can have races down the hall. Winner will get the losers Jell-O cup. LOL Let me know when your date firms up. That would be cool. I made it through the first three days of the pre-op diet. Those are supposed to be the worst. I just miss my gum. I used to chew all the time.
  13. I have surgery 6 October at INOVA Fair Oaks in Fairfax, VA but I live in southern Maryland. I also have my pre-op 23 September. I have already started my pre-op diet.
  14. I have a list as well. On 23 September some of my questions will be: How will sleep apnea affect my time in the recovery room? Will it affect the surgery? Some people say their legs or other parts hurt after surgery from being strapped in. Where can I expect soreness or pain after surgery? If I know what to expect I feel I can be better prepared. Is there a limit to how much I can walk the halls in the hospital after surgery? I am scheduled for surgery at 8am. If all goes well what time would you expect me to be complete? What time would you expect me to be out of the recovery room? Most importantly since I am the first surgery will I still have to wait until the next day to be able to have Clear liquids? Or is this my punishment for going first lol? What do I do if I get a headache before and after surgery? Sore Muscles?

    October 2015 Gastric Bypass

I am writing about my experience with the first three days of pre-op because before I started it this was the thing I feared the most. I had heard that the first three days were the worst. Ok, what does that mean? But I didn't see where anyone said how it was. Well that is why I am writing. When you go through your pre-op feel free to share so that those that come after you may know a little about how it may be. Yesterday was more difficult but not anything I couldn't handle. I spent the whole day at home. As I mentioned I went for a walk in the morning. Then I spent the rest of the paying bills, watching some T.V., playing a game and basically sitting at my desk. I do not get up at the same time everyday because I don't go to bed at the same time or I may get up in the middle of the night. So yesterday when I got up the first thing I did was write out a schedule once again. Now I don't have a problem with any of the Bariatric Advantage shakes or bars. I am not going to write a glowing report on the taste and say it is just like a rich and creamy milkshake. But, as my wife said I can drink it if I have to. So, taking that stuff was no problem. As I mentioned in my previous post my worst thing was missing the gum. It seemed like every 20 seconds I was looking for a stick of gum. Luckily I removed all temptation the night before I started this pre-op diet. I went through my fridge, my cabinets, and my desk drawer pulling out everything. I even pulled the gum I had in my truck out. Most of it I threw out but some of it my wife took downstairs for her. Out of sight out of mind. Now watching some of the food commercials were not fun but once again not anything I couldn't handle. I went out and mowed the grass later in the day and when I came back in I had two of the sugar free popsicles. They did help me cool down. The popsicles and the sugar free Jell-O do not do anything for me as far as filling me up or filling that hole in my stomach that wants some real food. So was sitting around the house a good idea? Well I would say I had an easier time the first day when I kept myself extremely busy. But by staying at home I didn't expose myself to food smells. I don't think I could have handled going through a grocery store and smelling those smells. So I think all in all yes it was a good idea. If things got too bad I could always go for a walk. Now this morning I got up at 4am because I woke up and my brain wouldn't shut off. I had to fast after midnight because I am getting my pre-op blood work done this morning along with chest x-ray, gall bladder sonogram, and my knee x-rayed to see what is going on with it. Ok hopefully I will be back tomorrow to say how my third day went.

    October 2015 Gastric Bypass

Report on my first pre-op diet day: I wrote out a schedule the day before of when I would have a shake or bar. That helped to have a plan to look back on. It went so much better than I thought it would. I kept myself busy from getting up at 430 and having a shake to picking up the kids to taking them to the qualifier and then keeping an eye on them when they were in different locations. When we got there about 9:30 I had a BA bar but then got so busy running around that I didn't have anything to eat except lots of Water until 3pm. I drank 2 shakes to make up for the ones I missed and my banana. The kids had cheeseburgers and french fries oh how I wanted some of those! But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Once I got home I had another shake and a bar and 2 Jell-O's. I started getting a little headache and I was so tired I went to bed. The biggest problem I really had and still am having today is missing my gum. I used to chew gum almost constantly. Now I find myself reaching for it and then remembering I can't have it. They didn't say I had to quit chewing gum as well but I also didn't ask. They told me at an earlier appointment that after surgery chewing gum would add air to your pouch and that was not a good thing. So I figured I would stop it now and get used to it. I just got back from walking 6 miles so I am getting my exercise in. I will not be so busy today so we will see how it goes.

What does creating a support group involve? Where would we go on this site? What are the benefits to joining a support group vice this thread? Thanks for your patience and educating me. @@thbrown223 and @ welcome and anyone I missed. I will let you know tomorrow or more likely Monday how my shakes taste. I will probably be too tired by the time I come back tomorrow around 6. I have to go now and make my plan for tomorrow. I will probably get up at 4:30 am and not get back until 6pm. LOL, oh yea, we are stopping at McDonalds for lunch. Gosh you saying you are dealing well with the pre-op diet gives me a lot of hope. Now I just have to make it through the first 3 days. My first day will be full of challenges. I work with Special Olympics Golf and Sunday we have a qualifier in Frederick, MD. I have 4 kids to pick up at 7am and will get back around 4:30. I will have to plan when I need to drink and have it all ready. I hope everything goes good. I added you as a friend and if you care to you can do the same with me. Thank you so much.

    Holiday Hell

I agree with @@dancingqueene!! @@chasingchloee first and foremost I would say put yourself first. You have to take care of you because no one else is. I know I know easier said than done. It is awesome that you have set out on this journey so you are already learning to put yourself first. My choices are not necessarily your choice or options. My Gastric Bypass surgery is 6 October and I will still be in mushy foods at Thanksgiving. I told my family that if I am having trouble with the smells of food making me hungry at that time I will not be attending Thanksgiving. Everything I have read and everyone on here seems to indicate that the first six months or so are easier because you don't get hungry. That doesn't mean you don't get head hunger though. If I attend Thanksgiving, and I do plan to, I will have a plan in place to TRY to deal with hunger (from the head or real). I plan to have my walking shoes with me and just go for a walk with some nice relaxing music to listen to if no one else wants to go. I will also take a book on my Kindle and go sit on the porch while they are eating if necessary. My wife initially said you can't do Thanksgiving that soon after surgery so we just won't go. As you see I have support if I need it. Have a friend you can call to talk to if your family is not supportive and you are struggling during the holiday. Most of all Good luck in your journey.
