    Pre op depression

For me there is a lot of grief related to giving up food. I have Lupus which makes me feel like crap most of the time. So, I used food to make myself feel better. I am three months out post-op. It was very difficult pre-op but post-op you cannot eat most things. There was no joy in eating, actually there was pain. This was a good thing for me. I really needed to break the cycle. Not being able to eat and talking with my therapist helped me through the grief. I still cannot eat much but I am surprised that the pain with eating is mostly gone. I really have to watch because snacking is too easy. Snacking slows done and can halt weight loss. I lost 56 lbs pre- surgery and 41 post. I still have over another hundred to go. One thing that is wonderful about the surgery is that you do not feel hungry. This is helpful. Best wishes

Good idea happymama, let me know what he/she says please
  4. Pretty close, 381. It's hard when you have to lose more weight than some peoples beginning weight at the time of their surgery. But, I really try not to get stuck in that mindset and take joy in the fact that I'm 70 lbs down! 56 lbs pre-surgery and 14 post. My surgery was 4 weeks ago today. Blessings
  5. Yeah! Congrats your looking great!!

    Help

I used miralax every morning in my flavored water. My post-op nurse told me this is the best bc your body does not become dependent on a stimulant to get you going. So, I do a dose every morning. Once you finally start going and it is soft then you can start to decrease the dose to every other or every third day. This has been great for me. I've always had sluggish bowels and this is helping. It is only fiber so it doesn't do any harm. It took me a couple weeks to go on a more regular basis. Hope it helped. Blessings. Oh yeah, once your off pain meds (hydrocodone, etc) it will be easier bc those bind you up.
  7. Hi all, I'm Angela. I'm 4 weeks post-op. I had my sleeve on 9/3/14. Lately I have notice that I am irritable, moody and somewhat depressed. Not suicidal depressed but feel down, easily overwhelmed, and have a short fuse. I am very aware that I used food to "feel better" and I am grieving the loss but I think it's more. It is my understanding - that when you eat your stomach releases serotonin (happy feelings). And, when you have most of your stomach removed that the serotonin decreases. Thus, making post-op patients more susceptible to depression. Anyone have knowledge, data, etc with this? What has helped?
  8. Hi Samantha. I had my sleeve surgery on 9/3/14. I have been moody, irritable and depressed. I have lupus so there are more days than not that I do not feel great. It has been much worse since surgery. I am completely aware that I ate food when I did not feel well to fell better. As we know, eating and having a positive connection to food and being full is a thing of the past. I know I am grieving my coping skill (albeit an unhealthy one). I would be interested in helping out in whatever way you need for your research. Angela

    PCOS, Sleeve, Pregnancy

I had my first at 35 and my second at almost 39. Heck no it's not too old! Especially since you are getting healthier! I would suggest seeing a fertility specialist. Most insurances cover a consult. Best money I invested in was a good fertility specialist. Two beautiful children (3 & 6 now). Just be prepared, when you do get pregnant, because of age your test will come back for a high likelihood of a Down's syndrome child. THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOUR CHILD HAS DOWNS SYNDROME. At the time I was scared but then I was informed that anyone over 37 usually get this result. I would love my child no matter if they had downs or not, it was just scary to get that result. A good friend of mine had the sleeve 22 months ago. Not too long after the sleeve surgery she got pregnant. Her daughter is now 6 months old. There is less risk with the sleeve and pregnancy verses bypass and pregnancy because if the mal-absorption with bypass. Btw, she was 37 when she had her daughter.

    Metformin post-op?

I have PCOS and have been on metformin for years. It has helped me immensely by allowing me to cycle and feel less hormonal and helps with sweat cravings. I had the sleeve 9/3/14. I have not been on metformin since a week before surgery (liquid diet). I am getting a glucose monitor to track my sugar levels. This will help determine if I still need the medication. Concerning babies, my suggestion is to see a fertility specialist. You will have to travel but it is well worth it. A consultation should be covered under your insurance. Ask him/her about metformin, pregnancy, sleeve, age, etc. if you are in western pa see dr Robert Collins! I have two beautiful children ????❤️

    My Ongoing Story :)

Nice sweet shirt! I'm an AZD as well. Albeit, it was from 1990-94 but still always in my heart.
  12. It helps when I drink a protein shake before bed.

    Stall in weight loss

I would really be interested in the forum. That would be helpful
  14. I started my WL journey in November 2013. I lost 56 lbs before my sleeve surgery. I had surgery on sept 3, 2014. I lost 10 lbs in the first two weeks after surgery. This last week I did not lose any. In the last week I have lost 1.75" off my waist, .75" off my hips and .5" off my neck. I am grateful for the loss in inches but surprised there is a stall in the weight loss already. Have you experienced this? I am three weeks out from surgery tomorrow. I am still on the liquids and some puréed foods.
