    Stick a fork in me

I'm going to chime in here I didn't drink protien shakes after surgery I tried several kinds they all made me want to vomit I couldn't tolerate even the smell I was able to tolerate the Adkins ready made ones they tasted decent and didn't smell I also used genepro unflavored protien powder to mix into soups broth hot drinks etc but only for a few weeks then I stopped I started at 400 lbs on day of surgery February 24 this year lost 62 before that surgery I'm sleeved my protien levels are great I'm at 279 now still have a ways to go but I haven't had any issues getting enough protien

    Feeling ashamed

Next time you get to feeling this way ask yourself what will change if u eat all of the food you want when u get stressed out what will make what already happened and is over change or be better by you eating more calories than u want or need and then feeling more stress over that?
  4. Hi I'm nearly 9 months post op sleeve this happened to me too I have AFib and I have to take meds for it I'm fine I had my surgery there wasn't an issue they are just covering their ass if u even have a minor issue and anything happens during surgery they don't want law suits increase in malpractice insurance or to screw up their statistics so try to calm down and wait to hear what's going on where I went it seemed standard for them to check for heart conditions as many ppl have them and don't know or haven't been diagnosed best of luck
  5. Trust me I wanted to go off on her I don't have a good amount of patience when it comes to ppl like this so I'm better off not saying anything and just trying to remember you can't change stupid there are always ppl who have things to say about something I have enough to deal with in my own life without trying to convince ppl that this was a good decision for me I do agree about her behavior though it makes me mad as hell I'm undecided about telling the dr herself this went on no one else heard it but me and I feel that possibly if this behavior was clearly frowned upon by the boss it wouldn't happen however I having said that this dr has never been rude or nasty to me about my weight or anything so if I tell her and nothing happens and I have to deal with this woman again I won't want to go back there so that's where I am on this...
  6. Well I almost lost it but I thought why bother wasting my breath people will say or think what they want she was giving me a flu shot and lifted my sleeve to access my and said oh that's disgusting about the "wings" on my arms coming from an overweight person herself no less she has been extremely negative about me having this surgery ever since each time I've been there she makes snide remarks and tells me it was the worst decision I ever made etc... Let's see I'm down 200 lbs off some meds it sure wasn't better when I was over 400 lbs call me crazy I think this was a great decision !
  7. I had the nurse practitioner at my dr office tell me I'm disgusting because of the extra skin you can't win if your fat people have to say rude things you lose weight they still say rude things I guess there is no basic respect anymore
  8. Nothing about this process is particularly fun or fair if life were fair we could all eat what we like with no consequences well then if that were the case this site would not have to exist this process takes time to get used to and become your new normal we have all been there sometimes you will get angry or frustrated with it the thing is it will get u no where if you wanted this bad enough to go through with the surgery then slow down calm down and follow your instructions yes things will return to a more normal state in time it feels like it won't I'm here to say it will I'm 8 months post op sleeve I can eat a little of most things you will need to decide when you get there if being able to eat pasta potatoes bread etc fill in your food of choice if it's worth it to you and your progress or excercise plan to eat it or not and how hard you want to work to keep losing or maintaining at goal it's up to you it's a tool to help you it's not a magic wand that waves away poor choices that is not to say you are expected to be perfect everyday forever and you won't have something once in a while but keep in mind the decision will be yours always will it be " fair"? Maybe not but those of us who got to this point to do this surgery had to stop worrying about what was fair and do what's nessecary to try and take some control back emotions can go haywire during this process and can feel overwhelming a times it will get better in time best of luck to you

To tell or not to tell...

Hi I feel the same way I don't talk about it but if asked I say yes I had surgery a few ppl close to me know but I never cared what anyone thought about it it's my life and I have to deal with the effects of being heavy and all that comes with it ... I find it interesting that people will comment on how heavy you are and why don't you do something then the same ppl make negative comments on the surgery to them I say ok have it done live with it a while then we will re visit this conversation and you can tell me what about you feel is so easy... They get quiet after that
  12. I'm sleeved since this past February and I have this issue as well mostly the running to the bathroom part with an occasional plugged up incident can't seem to find a normal I have noticed that I cannot tolerate sugar free foods as they make me so sick and they don't taste bad but my insides revolt my nutritionist said I likely cannot tolerate the sugar alcohols also noticed nuts and peanut butter can't have either even tried a lower fat type nope not happening however the upside is I'm healthier can buy clothes in regular stores and have to keep getting new pants as they keep getting too big
  13. Good stay on top of everything I found I sure had to I also kept copy's of all test results etc anything they asked for I had a copy in a file for myself as I seemed to be getting the run around constantly they didn't receive this or that or never got faxes etc etc I even brought this file with me to day if surgery just in case and I'm glad I did I had to take these shots for I think a week before surgery they said I took the wrong dose etc and wanted to cancel my surgery I had my copy's of RX and a receipt from pharmacy to prove that was not right I was later told someone recorded the info wrong in my file

To tell or not to tell...

You don't need to feel embarrassed you are not obligated to disclose medical info to anyone who is bold enough to ask you are entitled to privacy and decide who you want to know and when if ever it's your life and your body no one else gets a vote and if they ask anyway give the, a shocked look and say excuse me? Change the subject to something else or simply say I only discuss medical issues with my dr but thank you for asking I'm fine...

    Judged at the hospital

The hospital I had my procedure at called me after once I was home a few days if this had happened I would have definitely mentioned it the nurse were nothing but nice where I was if you get a call or a letter by all means sing like a bird they are not there to comment on or judge your medical decisions that's unprofessional and unacceptable would they ask a patient who had a blockage why they didn't just do something else? That's just stupid if they don't agree with it tough shit they should keep their big mouths closed and do their damn jobs surgical patients regardless of type of procedure certainly don't need the added stress of judgements and gossip of people who don't even know them making assclown comments
  16. My weight loss was required by the surgeon I had to go to that clinic and they made me meet with a nutritionist and exercise person take a history weigh you put you on a diet mine was south beach requirement to lose 5% before you can even meet the surgeon he won't do any surgeries if you do not comply with his terms then when you have done this they schedule the pre op testing and when that was all done u schedule for surgery I started this in June 2014 and due to all the requirements and testing it took weeks to get any appts for any testing and weight loss required first it took me until dec22 to get surgeon approval then he went on vacation for two freaking months I didn't have surgery until almost end of February and he told me if you gain a lb no surgery
  17. I'm nearly 8 months post op sleeve I can eat pretty much anything I want I just can't eat massive amounts like I could before I can eat most of a small burger on a thin bun however it makes me uncomfortable I'm still learning when to stop I feel like oh I can have another bite so I do and a few mins later I'm uncomfortable I can eat most of a small slice of pizza I have found it doesn't taste as good as it used to and I can't eat pepperoni too greasy it doesn't sit well u will have to learn what works or you over time the first few months are going to be different u have to learn to eat slower more carefully don't drink too close to eating or too soon after follow the guidelines you are given as far as what to eat at what stage so u don't hurt yourself it really is an adjustment and takes getting used to but you will go back to being able to eat things u ate before u will have to decide if it worth it or not best of luck
  18. I'm 47 I was sleeved in February of this year
  19. I have found that the dr or clinic/ program likes to verify your insurance coverage and approval before they begin your mandatory weight loss nutrition appts and all testing begins a lot of insurance make you have some period of time to have weight loss usually required by the surgeon not the insurance but the insurance goes along with this as there is a chance u will quit or get tired of all the bs and change your mind I've also found that they will never give a straight answer
  20. You can always stand up for yourself don't depend or wait on others to do so you are an adult and are deserving of basic respect and not have to be spoken to in a condescending way as if your a child you know you have an issue and are trying to deal with it you don't need further pressure and insults however "helpful" they are claiming to be that's not helpful that's passive aggressive bullshit trying to sugar coat insults as "help"

    I finally did it!

Congrats great news hope you have a smooth recovery
  22. Yes I had that too likely a lack of calories and possibly dehydration fatigue and anxiety it will diminish I literally had to force myself to drink in my teeny tiny annoying sips lol and get up and walk around do household things etc even if just for a few mins at a time I was terribly weak and shaky and tired I asked the dr to give me a week more off work they refused I was lucky enough that at my job boss was away for the first two weeks I was back to work and I could go as slow as I needed to and work just a few hours a day so I got back into the normal routine by the time they returned no harm no foul so to speak but was exhausted everyday everyone is different I hadn't expected to feel that way so it was rough for a while but it did get better in time you will figure out what works for you and thanks for your kind words I'm happy to help if I can
  23. You simply say why yes I have thank you how is xyz... (Thing happening in their life) and keep it moving I also remind myself( often muttering under my breath that I'm gonna need the bail money for my new wardrobe ) it really helps keep me sane when I wanna bitchslap ppl when they act so crazy and want to keep asking questions when I clearly don't have an interest in discussing it with them

To Tell or Not To Tell?

You are in control of who knows what about you u are not obligated to disclose anything you can say a more healthy diet which is true low fat low carb low sugar etc you do not have to give ppl any reason to gossip it's not their darn business in the first place it's not lying to not inform ppl you had surgery now if you deny having surgery and say it's just diet that's a lie however you still have no obligation to tell anyone anything u don't want to tell its your life not theirs simply say I'm making some changes and leave at that I don't talk about it to ppl but if asked I say yes I had surgery I'm not ashamed of it and I do not care what what anyone thinks it's my body my health my mobility and my business if ppl want to get into negative crap with me I say I didn't ask for nor do I need or want your opinion thank you but then I'm a bitch like that when ppl get in my business lol
  25. Oh boy wait till after the surgery think pms all over lol it will pass.....warning to all husbands boyfriends and significant others do as your asked and no you cannot eat chili dogs in front of us or anything else we can't have
