Recovery..... do you really need someone the first few weeks?
bluedreams86 replied to bluedreams86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you everyone for the wonderful advice and for sharing! I know I can probably do this alone, but my mother is so stubborn.....sigh.... there is no stopping that woman!! We made a pact that she can stay for a week and if I am in the clear, she can go back home on time or earlier. Quite truthfully, I am looking forward to spending some alone time after surgery. Two weeks of my mother, I would probably go crazy or check myself into the hospital lol -
On track for November...
bluedreams86 replied to Quest4TheNewMe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The lady at my doctor's office rocks. We submitted the papers to the insurance today (my BMI is still 40 and my initial was like 45), so it's probably going to be an automatic approval :: fingers crossed:: So even though I am not yet approved, she still booked me for surgery. Woot Woot!!! I am having it done on Nov 17th. As long as my insurance company approves it. Though I see no reason for a denial, but insurance companies are so sneaky. I can't wait for the surgery... I am just curious if I will recognize the face in the mirror when I lose the weight and see myself. -

Hi there, My surgery date is around yours. Mine is for the 17th. It's normal to have fears. This is an important surgery and this is going to change your life. I sometimes get afraid, but then I think of all the positives and remind myself that I am tired of being overweight. Just think of all the positives. -
Maryland/DC/Northern VA Hospitals

I am planning on having my surgery at Sibley Hospital (submitting paper work to insurance on Oct 1). The doctor is very good (Brian Long) and it is a one stop shop with a Nutritionist (who has gone WLS as well and provides excellent advise), Support Groups, Physical Trainer, Psych Eval, Gastro Doc, Lab/Test and Surgeon all available at the hospital. I think I looked at George Washington or Georgetown and you had to book your own nutritionist separately etc. I didn't want to deal with the hassle of going to several different places -- it stresses me out lol. -
Insurance Approval... How long?
bluedreams86 replied to Time4ChangeNY's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
A month?! Oh my. What insurance do you have? On Oct 1 my doc is submitting the paperwork to the insurance. I am going to pray that it goes quickly. The suspense is going to drive me crazy. -
Hello everyone, I am so nervous to lose more weight and for my BMI to drop under 40. I am just afraid of being denied by my insurance (United HealthCare - Choice Plus). My plans requires a six month diet plan and my doctor will be submitting my insurance paperwork until Oct 3rd-- which means I will probably lose some weight by then. I started at 257 and now I am at 227 (40 BMI). I am afraid to go below a BMI of 40. I am not sure what UH considers a comorbidity. I have PCOS, high cholesterol/triglycerides (Hyperlipidemia), pre-diabetic (AC1 sort of high), GERD, back/neck pains (deterioration on spine due to weight). I used to have sleep apnea, but since I had sinus surgery this year it improved and a recent sleep study confirmed minimal sleep apnea and recommended to lose weight instead of the CPAP machine. Now, when your doctor submits your weight/BMI to your insurance for approval, do they submit your START weight when you began the six month required diet plan OR do they submit the CURRENT weight after the end the six month required diet plan?

Only lost 10lbs - WTF

I can only imagine what you are going through. I am a very nauseous person and I am dreading those shakes when I have my surgery.... However what if you take anti nausea medication and then have the shakes? Is it the taste or the smell that is making you nauseous/sick? I would cover my nostril when it's time to drink it It's worth a shot. Hang in there.
