Summer Rain reacted to Ginger Snaps in what surgery can I SAY i'm having?
First, you probably don't have to tell anyone the specifics. Being female, you can always just say "It's a female thing...". That'll probably stop anyone in their tracks from asking more questions. Or, just tell them the truth.

Summer Rain got a reaction from kyrickchick64 in I can't believe it has finally happened...
I got on the scale this morning and it read 199.0! I think it has been 18 years since I weighed below 200 lbs.
I went shopping last week and I was able to buy XL tops and size 16 pants! That is down from 3X tops and 24 pants. I am so excited I can hardly stand it.
I am 52 years old. I was sleeved on November 4, 2015 (15 weeks ago). My recovery from this surgery was very easy and I am thankful every day that I had this procedure done. I now LIKE leaving the house to go places and I hope to have a job interview in the next week or so (telephone interview last Friday). I even took a picture of me in my new interview clothes and sent it to my daughter and I would not be embarassed if she showed it to anyone else. That is a big deal as I have stayed out of pictures for YEARS.
Two weeks ago I took my son to visit a college campus and I was able to walk the the whole tour! That was about 2 hours of walking around the campus and different buildings. 6 months ago I couldn't have done that.

For our infamous transformation tuesday...10 months out. Feeling very happy! Lost 60 pounds - from size 18 to 10. My goal for 10 months out was to loose at least 80-85 pounds. But considering I don't exercise at all (as i should), eat without restrictions and my only limitation is the amount of food that fits my sleeve, I think I'm doing pretty good. I'm very surprised that even though I did not reached my goal in pounds, I did, whatsoever, reached my goal in size. That's the exactly size (10) I had as my goal for my 10th month. Very intrigued. One thing I m sure had helped me: I don't care about junky food, chips, candies or chocolate at all. I have it once in a while but I don't crave this kind on food at all.

I started my journey at 268 lbs and today I am 170 lbs. my survey was 9/11/14. It has been awesome. My energy level. My ability to just move. Yesterday I went to Old navy and tried on a size 12 pair of jeans and they were to big. I am happy to say. I walked out with the size 10. I have never been able to fit a size 10. My next NSV will be running the Susan Koman 5k here in Philadelphia this Mother's Day. I thank God everyday for giving me the courage to decide to have this surgery.

I've not posted since i was in the very early stages, but thought I'd post a before and after. My surgery was Oct. 21, 2014 and I weighed 247. I've currently lost 80 pounds putting me at 167lbs. It's been much slower this past month, and it's been depressing me a little...I'm so afraid I've lost all I'm going to. I hope not!! Anyway,

I went shopping over the weekend and could not believe the size I am wearing now. Before surgery 24 pants and 3x shirts. Now 16 pants and XL shirts. I no longer have to shop in the plus sizes. I never thought that would ever happen. 66 pounds down. Sorry just had to post this I am so excited. I also went out to eat at a restaurant for the first time since my surgery on Saturday for my 30th anniversary, (I was so nervous) but everything was fine. I ordered off the kids menu and I still took some home for dinner the next night.

I think the hairloss thing is just going to happen, or not, no matter what you do. Just like postop pain and nausea...some people have it and some people don't. It's all in how your body handles the stress of surgery. I read of all these regimens people go through and STILL have hairloss. I didn't use Biotin or Gelatin or any special hair products, and I never had any hairloss. I've always gotten in all my Protein and fluids starting day 5, and I take a whole food based Multivitamin. Mental stress can also contribute to Hair loss, so the more you worry about hairloss and surgery and stress over stalls and preop and postop diet restrictions, etc, the worse it could be.
I was totally prepared for hairloss, and planned to shave my head and wear hats. I just figured it would be one of the "dues" I had to pay for this awesome transformation. So try and keep up a good attitude, go ahead and use supplements if you want to, definitely get in all the Protein you can, but don't get upset if you do lose hair. It's just part of the process for some people.

Summer Rain got a reaction from chrispina in 3 days out - protein?
I was told at first to concentrate on getting my fluids in and that is difficult the first week or two. Protein is secondary so if you have to wait until tomorrow to try your Protein then wait until tomorrow. It would be worse if you threw up.
    Good luck!

Summer Rain reacted to WL WARRIOR in Unexpectedly slow start to weight loss
I had a slow beginning, but eventually picked up the pace after the first month. I was only down 18 pounds from pre-surgery weight at my one month follow up visit. The bariatric nurse said that I must have been taking in too many carbs (I wasn't, daily total was under 20 grams) and that I should pay more attention to the group meetings with the nutritionist. I was so upset even though I knew she was wrong. I have hypothyroidism which probably had something to do with it. Who knows?
It was so hard not to say something sarcastic to the nurse because she was quite overweight herself. I decided the next day that I wouldn't let her comments bring me down and to just put my very best effort into being successful. And things have gotten better because I've lost 100 pounds in 5 months. Even if you lose slower than that, who cares? It's not a race and you will get there at your own individual pace. Plus, there are many positives to losing more slowly. I have found it mentally exhausting to lose weight too fast and look forward to "loosening up" a little.

Congratulations! You have reached The Dreaded Week-3 Stall. It's perfectly normal, and just about all of us have suffered through it. You're not crazy, and your doctor didn't screw up. In fact, you might not lose any weight for two weeks or even longer. But don't worry – after that, the weight will start falling off if you stick to your program. And, the inches will continue to come off even while the scale isn't budging. Here's a good article that explains why it happens and why we all have to go through it. Hang in there. Pretty soon it'll be in the rear-view mirror and you'll be dropping weight again!
(Apologies to BP regulars who have seen this repeatedly, but it's a big deal to those who are going through it!)

I have been a "slow loser" also but if you stick to the plan you can't help but lose weight. You are eating so few calories the weight has to come off. Don't get discouraged because it is going to happen! The first month or so I think our bodies are in shock and recovering from surgery.
Have you measured? Do this monthly because sometimes it's inches and not pounds that we lose.
    Good luck!
