    Need to Vent

Think of the first 6 weeks as a time of healing and a time for you to establish a good routine. start measuring what you eat, tracking your calorie intake, going to they gym or exercising everyday, keeping in touch with your support person, keeping a private journal about your feelings and your hopes and dreams for yourself. The first six weeks are just for that. As far as your nanna getting to use your new comforter before you...just be glad its your nanna using it and not some old, sweaty, funny smelling uncle or other family member. You could always ask your mom if you can use your new comforter on the couch and let your nanna use the old one on your bed. It's a thought..ask your mom. Getting on the scale every day can be discouraging for some people; it can also be motivating for others. It seems to be discouraging for you. weigh yourself only once a week on the same day of the week..it will make tracking your progress much easier and it will give you something to look forward to. Venting here is what EVERYONE does. Never feel that you can't. It is a way to blow off steam and it is better than drowning your anxiety in a gallon bucket of icecream. Best of luck to you in your continued sucess. Remember you are NOT a FAILURE!!
  2. two days post op i was riding in my car and attended my local support group meeting. it is an individual thing. you may not feel like flying in a cramped airplane seat for X number of hours, and then again you might..if you are that concerned see if you can post pone your return flight for 4 days after surgery or what ever makes you feel most comfortable. Best of luck with your up comming surgery. Know that we are all rooting for you!

Get pleanty of rest, don't be in a rush to get back to work or anything; pamper yourself..you just had surgery!! make sure you remember to get your mom a thank you card for watching your son while you recover. That is a great GIFT she is giving you. Congratulations to you! I wish you the best of sucess and happiness with your new stomach! remember to take pics to keep us all updated on how your progress is going.

Dr. Barker patients - what do you think?

Follow your gut instincts and RUN!!!! any dr that would allow his practice to operate that way would never be operating on me!! If money is your concern..think of it this way; how much would you really be saving if you went to him? how much is your well being worth to you? I am sorry to say this but sometimes you do get what you pay for (or errr.. in this case don't pay for). If your brain is questioning him this much already...maybe you should listen to your inner voice that is telling you to NOt go with him and use some one else. Best of luck in whatever you decide.

    2nd fill, finally feel something

WOW! 6 (six) pokes with a needle before they found your center port? OUCH!! I am a big baby! I think I would have freaked out and demanded some fluro for needle guidance after the third poke! I have yet to have a fill. I am scheduled to have my first one on September 7th. I am mortified. I asked my doc at my post op appt "OK, I am wondering if I have lost a good amount of weight at my next appointment , May I please not get a fill?" He said, "Tina, if you lose a lot I will not fill you." That answer made my heart SING! :banana I have lost 25 pounds since July 3. I have lost 20 pounds since my sugery. I am 24 days post op. I hope that my weight will continue to drop and that I can avoid the dreaded fill. Is it normal to be afraid of a fill?

    Halloween Time

In Reno, Nv we have the Exotic Halloween Ball. It was soo cool!!! There were people dressed in barely anything and there were people dressed in fully elaborate costumes. I can hardly wait for this years' party! Maybe I will be small enought to look decent in a teddy and heels! With being in Nevada it was hard to tell if there were real hookers or just well costumed people, since prostitution is LEGAL in Nevada!

My first day back to work

well, I made it. I went back to work today. My boss (the one I didn't want to tell about my surgery) wasn't there. I am grateful. To start the day off my alarm went off at 4:55 AM. It scared me and I reached over quickly turn it off, a not to disturb Harry's sleep. I proceeded to have a sharp pain in my port incision from the stretching. OUCH!!!!! So, I slowly roll over and stand up right as best I can clutching my port incision. I feel my way to the bathroom in the dark. I push the scales out into the open so I can stand on them. WHOOOHOOOO! I am down to 288! I am 6 days post op and have lost 6 pounds. I proudly push the scale back between the toilet and the tub. I turn on the shower and slowly get in. I am washing my hair and hear a noise. i look outside the curtain to see nothing. I am pulling my head back in when soap gets in my eye and stings the ever loving hell out of it. I finish up and get out and towel off. I stand before the mirror and brush my teeth and hair (i do use two seperate brushes for this). I go to put on my deodorant and perfume and cause myself to sneeze. MOTHER F&$@$%!!! The pain in the port incision is getting worse. I am a set my clothes out the night before kind of person. I walk over to my pile of clothes on the dresser and start the chore of dressing. I get my bra and panties on no problem, I take my socks to the bed and have to do some contorsion act to get them on. I am satisfied with that and put on my shirt and pants only to discover that the waistline hits my port incision and send sharp pain directly to my pee brain. HOLY S*$%!!! I am ok I am ok I am ok i keep reassuring myself. I then discover that I cant bend over enough to tie my shoes. After several commical attempts I give up and walk over to Harry's side of the bed and wake him up to ask him to tie them for me. He is a grumpy butt but laughs at me and ties them for me despite having been woken up to do a preschool child type chore at 5;F@$&ing 30 in the morning. I get to my car and discover that I aslo cant sit with my pants buttoned. I see that my gas guage is reading empty. I speed off into the dawn as not to be late getting back to work. I dealt with the stairs coming down from my apt pretty well. Going up the two flights of staris at work was a different story. It took me so long to get up there! I ended up sitting at my desk with my pants undone and my shirt barely covering me all day. I had a ton of well wishers and hey how did your surgery go-ers come up and visit with me~ all wanting to see my incisions. It wasnt until my co manager said "hey! nice pink panties, Tina" did I realize that my pants were still unzipped!! I had been showing them off all morning to all my co workers both male and female. Tomorrow the big boss is there and I hope that no one asks about my surgery; as I would die if my boss were to accidently see my panties.

    Band Pregnancy...

I am happy to hear that you are having a baby!! that is great!! How long were you banded before you got pregnant? My doctor has me on birth control pills for at least one year post op as not to interfere with the sucess of the band. How did your band dr react? Can you have your band just unfuilled for the lenght of your pregnancy or can you have it taken out and put back on? what are your options? I am only curious because in the office here they warn you against it highly. Best of luck to you and your family.

    Feeling Too Normal

i am 10 days post op and i am eating normal foods already. i am chew chew chewing the hell out of everything! i have had chineese food .. steak. . shrimp ..chicken ..and scrambled eggs..noodles...I have no problems i even ate some home made chicken enchilladas. mind you I am not eating very much at all but i am eating. you are probably not feeling full because you are not eating solids. the liquids drain right out of your new stomach and into your old one. you will not feel full with beverages unless you guzzle a gallon of it at at time. i was supposed to be on the liquids for two weeks and mushies for a week and then progress from there. talked to my doc at post op he said as long as i am getting my water and my protein and my daily exercise in I am doing fine. so keep up the great work!

    Just banded on Tuesday

Wow! I made it. I was banded on Tuesday. I came home from the hospital yesterday. I am looking forward to a long life of happiness and healthyness. This is my new hope and I am so PROUD of it. I want to say thank you to everyone here who has offered help and comfort and support to me. I could have never made it as far as I have without you all being behind me. Its an odd feeling being on THE OTHER side. Knowing that inside me lies the tool that I have been hoping and dreaming of for so long. I pray that I can be here and help others who are struggling with the same options that I had.
