MrsSugarbabe got a reaction from DeeSleeved427 in Dec. Sleevers: What are you eating now? How are you preparing for surgery?
I don't plan to change my current routine until time to start pre-op liquid diet - surgery on 12/8, liquid diet to begin 11/24. My current routine consists of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury shakes for Breakfast and lunch, Mon-Fri, one or two on Sat. & Sun., regular dinner and other meals, as low carb as possible (hubby is an insulin dependent diabetic). I drink lots of Water already and my coffee and tea are half regular, half Decaf blends.

Weight gain is the nightmare we all fear and live with. I am not cured of obesity, I'm simply in remission. There is no doubt in my mind I could gain back every pound I lost. There have been a few key statements people have made in this thread that resonate with me. Paraphrasing here:
Success requires vigilance Success requires self-honesty about what we eat Success requires tracking as a way of accomplishing both of those When I'm vigilant about my diet by weighing, measuring, tracking, and recording, I do best. I can do a WHOLE lot of damage in a just an hour or two. I don't have a normal body or metabolism, and I know deep down there is very little wiggle room for me. Don't get me wrong, I do let my guard down from time to time, I do get weary of the constant struggle, but I have to keep my eye on the prize. I love the way I feel and look, and I am grateful for what I consider to be a gift of being thin. I remember that, and it helps me to continue to do the things that have led to success. In the end, I have way more control over my success or failure as a result of having the sleeve than I did before surgery. I hope the "reset" stays reset!

Malabsorption of Vitamins and such and the fact that with the sleeve, the digestion process isn't changed drastically were all big factors for me.

MrsSugarbabe got a reaction from DeeSleeved427 in Surgery is scheduled for 12/8 - Yea!
After jumping through all the necessary hoops/appointments, I received my insurance approval last week and was able to get my surgery scheduled for 12/8, along with the 5 additional pre-op appts. Originally I was going to wait until February for travel reasons, but our travel plans have changed thanks to Ebola and some of my work benefits are changing in 2015 and I wanted to take the full benefit of my extended illness hours for time off for recovery. It finally seems more real, and I've finally wrapped my head around this procedure being an acceptable solution to weight loss, significant weight loss. Before it always seemed like an extreme measure to be taking, but my PCP was right, this is the best route for me at this stage in life. Also, after discovering this website and finding it to be a great source of information and support, I can now enthusiastically accept my decision and embrace all my supporters' support . I start my 2 week liquid diet prep the Monday before Thanksgiving which will be fine with me. My husband and I have a non-traditional holiday anyway so it won't be a big deal food-wise.
If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations to share during this waiting period, and for the 2 days I'll be in the hospital, please do. I'd love to hear them. I know one of the main things is to walk, walk, walk .
Also, because my husband and I are canceling our travel plans (a cruise to the Southern Caribbean in December), I would like to ask for prayers that we are able to get all of our money back from our travel insurance (since the surgery is medically necessary). My surgeon's nurse is more than happy to provide a letter for me to submit.

MrsSugarbabe got a reaction from docbree in To cruise before surgery or after surgery....
UPDATE: So, my health benefits will be changing in 2015 significantly enough that I moved my surgery date to December 8th, which is when hubby and I were supposed to be on our cruise. Early last week we had already started talking about possibly canceling our cruise plans due to health concerns and travel so when I learn of one particular change to our benefits, I decided I'd use that time off for the surgery instead. I am hoping there will be a cancellation on 12/1 or 11/24 so that I can be back to work prior to the Christmas holiday so as to not mess up any plans my co-workers/peers may have. I was planning to be off for 3 weeks. I would like to ask any prayer warriors out there to pray that I can get the surgery done sooner rather than later (11/24 or 12/1). My surgeon only does surgeries on Mondays and limits his cases to 3. I told his scheduling nurse that I would be checking with her periodically for any cancellations. Thanks y'all!!!

I went with the sleeve because I did not want my plumbing rerouted or have a port in my abdomen.

Same for me. I liked the idea that the basic digestion process was the same and that my insides weren't completely rearranged. Luckily, my doctor also thought thought the sleeve was a good choice for me.

Well if your diet includes any vegetable I would steam a bunch of different stuff. Grab carrots and celery and cucumbers and cut it up. Every time you feel like you're starving drink a shake and then go munch on some veggies. Some people's preop is just liquid so think how lucky you are to have the vegetables LOL

Mind over matter.... Get your thoughts in order. You are worth the changes coming! Its not what you are losing... its what you will be gaining! I am not talking pounds... Im talking healthier lifestye! You are here like I am ... because you are overweight and not healthy. We deserve better. You deserve better. You have to get your thoughts right. No one is doing this TO YOU... You are doing this FOR YOU... dig deep, find the commitment and determination to get through it. YOU Will be happier and healthier IF you really want this.
You are not alone. We all struggle or we wouldn't be here talking to strangers. My surgery is tomorrow... I have to remind myself every day why I am doing this... I want a better future for myself.
Have faith in yourself. You can do this.
    Blessings.

I was SO nervous. I just had my surgery on 10/7. Even up to going into the OR I was freaking out and wondering if I was doing the right thing. (Luckily, they give you some really nice "relaxation" meds if you need them....and I DID!) Believe me, I had tears and was just so scared. BUT...like others have said, the fear of being unhealthy, and overweight for the rest of my life scares me more.
I'm less than a week out and doing well. The recovery has been a pleasant surprise...not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. You'll be okay!

The anxiety is normal. This is major, life-changing surgery...if you weren't nervous, then you should panic!

This part of the process was undoubtedly the most difficult for me. However, it is all a distant memory now!

I was sleeved May 8, 2013 and my wife July 8, 2013. While my surgery and recovery were textbook, hers was a bit more challenging. She had two hernias repaired and it took about 3-4 weeks for her to quit complaining...uh-hm, I mean start to feel better!

Now, that period of time is a distant memory!

I am down 120 lbs. and my wife is down 80 lbs. (She looks fantastic, but she's on a mission to lose more...I told her not to get carried away, I don't want to feel like I'm hugging a sack of hammer handles!).

You are in for an awesome transformation! Just follow your doc's orders, allow your body time to heal, don't (DO NOT! ) let the number on the scale dictate your feeling of success or failure (If you feel better and your pants are falling off, to hell with what the number is on the scale! LOL).

The first few months will be an emotional roller coaster...don't be afraid to use the folks on this site as a sounding board, I think you'll find this is pretty much a judgement-free zone!

By the way, you're in for one heck of a journey and there's an incredible new you, waiting on the horizon!

    Godspeed for a quick recovery!

MrsSugarbabe reacted to lsereno in Okay vets - how are you doing on your vitamins/minerals supplements?
I take all recommended ( by my plan, which is Kaiser Fremont) supplements. I put most of them in pill holders (one for am and one for pm) and leave them in the medicine chest. I take them when I wash my face and brush my teeth. I keep the Calcium in a sugar jar in the medicine cabinet. I take three morning and evening and they are too big yo fit in the pill holder. Works for me.. At 3.5 years out and going strong.
