MrsSugarbabe got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Frustrated over short workouts
Your body is still adjusting. It will get better and you will be able to work out longer in the future. Try and be patient. Do what you can do then rest. Maybe for now you could do a couple of short workouts each day that you work out rather than trying for an extended period. I will sometimes do 1 min. "bursts" of standing squats going up on toes (only because I don't jump) at my desk during the day several times in addition to my gym workouts and/or walking on my lunch break.

I'm going to give you 2 pieces of very concrete advice.
First, you can't lay in bed and cry, you HAVE to figure out how to get some nourishment into your body. You feel awful, of course, but you're only going to feel MORE awful if you don't get something in to keep your electrolytes up. I have problems with my potassium levels, it started while I was in the hospital post-op and I still have to be careful. Milk is a good source of potassium, and Fairlife milk has good Protein, too, plus it helps replenish the Calcium you lose when your potassium is low.
broth with Protein Powder is a MUST for you right now, and you should use the Fairlife milk and add Protein to it as well. And you need to get your Water in, whether you're nauseated or not.
Second, if your medical team won't respond to you, you need to find someone new. Period. Call around and find someone who will take you. Tell your current team that you're leaving if they don't take your care seriously. You need carefully coordinated care right now and speaking only to a PA who can't be bothered to pull your chart before calling you back isn't competent care. Go to the ER again if you have to and tell them your practice won't take you seriously. It's absolutely critical that you're under the care of a team who understands the complications that follow bariatric surgery and if your original surgeon won't provide care, you HAVE to find someone else.
I'm sorry you're feeling so awful and I hope this isn't worded too strongly for you, but you're sick and feeling hopeless and you MUST do something to help yourself. Get some broth and protein in your stomach, drink Water and make phone calls on Monday. It WILL get better!

Don't stock up too much. My tastes changed after surgery, and the powders I'd thought I really liked, I couldn't stand after surgery. It's good to get samplers and such beforehand so you get a general sense of what you like and don't like (couldn't stand fake strawberry before, can't stand it now) but don't buy too much. I had found a Syntrax flavor I really liked and an unjury, so I got tubs of those and some unflavored stuff. Post-op, all I could stand was Premier Protein. I suspect I'll like the powders again and if not there are some recipies I can make with them, so it's not a total loss, but if I had it to do again, I'd just order another round of samplers for after until I figured out what I did and didn't like.

The biggest thing that changed me was tracking food. I just started tracking everything I ate pre-op in Myfitnesspal and it was shocking. I had no idea I was eating that much! Just by tracking I changed so much. I started thinking about everything that goes in my mouth. I started planning: if I eat this now, what about dinner?
Tracking my calories has been a total game-changer, before and after surgery.

I was in a 3 month pre-op plan. My wife was not, but she started following my pre-op diet very closely. We both started using My Fitness Pal to keep track of calories. We also stopped buying the stuff that sabotaged us on our good intent. It is one thing to have to walk past it in the store, and it is something else entirely to have it calling out to you while you are sitting at home. If it ain't there, you can't eat it.
Both of those two things combined allowed me to lose 68 lbs pre-op. My wife lost 30 lbs. Neither of us was 100% successful, but we were successful to make a difference all around. Every day is a new day to start over again, and for every day, that is the only day you have to succeed.

Best advice is to remove one thing at a time. Start with things like:
1.) Stop drinking carbonated beverages, even if they are diet. You will need to stay away from carbonation.
2.) Stop drinking caffeine, this also helps with hunger control
3.) Try to remove all processed foods from your diet: chips, crackers, junk.....even things like boxed macaroni and cheese. it will be important to get in the habit of cooking your food from scratch so you know what is in it. There is so much crap in processed foods and the carbs from them actually make you crave these types of foods. Thats why you can take down a box of cheese its in one sitting. It adds NO nutritional value so you need to make them go away if you are eating them.
4.) Remove Pasta, rice, bread, pastries, cereals, all sweets from your diet. These are foods that also spike your glucose levels and create cravings.
5.) Try to change to more whole foods that will keep you fuller longer: chicken, Fish, Beef, Pork, Cottage cheese, greek yogurt, Beans, fresh veggies, some fresh fruits.
6.) change your beverage of choice to Water - you will learn to drink alot of Water through this process. For me, this was easy but for others this is difficult. I start drinking water from the moment i get up in the morning and drink at least 48 to 64 oz per day.
7.) Start walking and add a little more eveyday
8.) Try to remove drinking while eating. Wait for at least 30 minutes after you are done eating before drinking water again. This is one of the hardest things to do post surgery but it is really critical because it will flush your foods down and allow you to eat more.
9.) Practice chewing your food like crazy. This will be important and it is harder than most think to do. Still 2 years post surgery i find myself not chewing and I get food stuck. When that happens post surgery, it hurts and it basically ends your meal.
10.) Slow down when you eat. Again sounds easy but it is not. This allows your brain time to know that your full and you wont overeat.
11.) Remove distractions while eating. we mindlessly eat when not paying attention. Again, not an easy one to break but you can do it.
Some of these are much easier than others but honestly if you can work on one or two at a time, it will set you up for success post surgery.
    Best of luck to you!

I started out with a specific plan. I decided to do a 1200 calorie diet. I did a 1200 calorie modified ketogenic diet Monday through Friday and on the weekends I still did 1200 calories, but if I wanted something specific on the weekend, I had it and kept within my calories. I did this for the first three months of my 6 month medically supervised diet before going full Keto for the last three months.
I ate the same thing everyday for Breakfast and lunch.
    Breakfast:
2 eggs, any style and a Oikos Triple Zero yogurt (any flavor)
For lunch I had a Premier Protein shake and a Sargento Balanced Break.
For dinner, I had 2-4oz of meat, with a steamed vegetable.
Since the diet was high in Protein, it made it easier because I wasn't hungry as often. It really kept me satisfied.
If I felt like I needed a snack, I had one. Typically sugar free Jell-O or sugar free pudding.
I also stopped caffeine right away. I figured why prolong the inevitable.
Good Luck finding the right thing for you!

I had RNY gastric bypass surgery 3 years ago. One of the first changes I made was to give up my 6 diet coke a year habit. One of the requirements of the program was to stop consuming caffeine and carbonated beverages. So I decided to do this early. I lost 20 pounds on that change alone. But be forewarned. I suffered through a week of severe caffeine withdrawal (severe headaches and body aches) when I went cold turkey.
Another thing you could do is to restrict yourself from drinking any fluids when you eat a meal. Drinking fluids during a meal allows you to consume more food.
Another change you could make is to restrict you intake from processed sugar. Substitute artificial sugar such as Splenda or natural low calorie sugar such as Stevia in its place.

    Hey there lady
Firstly, I don't think I can add much to the People who have posted before me.
There's loads of good supporting advice. Sadly this does not seem to be mirrored by your family.
This constant sickness is worrying. After your two day admittance to hospital did you feel better than when you went in? If you did then that is part of the answer.
I feel you are fighting this on so many fronts that knowing which way to go is a very difficult choice
Please keep us updated. We all want you to do well

I am so sorry you're having issues.
Some people have issues moving their diet along to purees/solids as early as others. When you have issues, go back to what worked for a while before trying again. If liquids are what works, stick with that for a while. Just be sure to work as hard as you can to meet your Fluid and Protein goals with Protein shakes/powder. Sip-sip-sip all day long, you do have to keep your nutrients and fluids up in order to heal.
Keep pressuring your medical team to stay on top of it. Sometimes nausea meds don't work or quit working, but others might still work. Ask them to change your script to something else.
I hope this resolves quickly for you!!

GENEPRO helped me with this. I added a scoop to my hot Decaf tea and a scoop to my broth. I drank both all day. I strained out the noodles from Lipton chicken noodle Soup. I told all my friends in my support group that. It really turned my mind around. 24 hours later I felt much better. I hope your doctors appointment goes well on Monday.

I'll echo that you need to do everything you can to get more Protein and calories in, and broth with unflavored Protein Powder will probably be the best way to do so. Sip on it all day if you have to. I started feeling much better when my Protein and calorie levels came out of the basement!
About your husband -- I don't know you or your relationship and I am a stranger on the internet, but I can't even fathom one's life partner saying that something troublesome "is not my problem." Seriously, what a douche. If my partner said something like that to me about anything (whether I brought it on myself or not), he'd be sleeping at the Hilton...
I hope the coming days find a solution and an improvement in your situation. Good luck!

I will fully admit that I had an easy recovery but I want to add.
You are never going to better until you are getting some nourishment. So you should sip on broth with unflavored Protein powder all day. You are always going to feel sick and ill until you get get over 600 calories a day. The longer you go without eating and the less you eat, the harder it is going to be to eat and the worse you are going to feel. You are just going to feel weaker each day.
Drink Protein that is a Water consistency all day. Options are broth with Protein Powder, Protein2O Water, Syntrax Nectars.
Even someone with a stricture should be able to get down liquids that are of a watery consistency.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I can't imagine the frustration and despair you are verbalizing. I hope that your doctor will consider doing a scope to see if there are any abnormalities that formed. Good luck on Monday. Let us know how that goes.

Today I finally noticed another change.
After 6-8 weeks bouncing around the same weight, my longest stall so far, I put my pretty watch on, and it was super loose around my wrist.
In my fat days, I could barely do its Bracelet up, and it was digging into my skin.
Today, it was half way up towards my elbow .....
And I lost a full shoe size!
Even though my (I'm not happy with you right now) scales haven't budged much, obviously I am losing inches/centimetres ....
    Yay for small NSVs !
8 months post op, and I am well past my honeymoon phase, and I am so grateful for any improvements.

For Thanksgiving I made two different dressings. I made one with cubed wheat and white bread and one breadfree using garbanzo Beans. In both I used onion, apples, red and green peppers, hot Italian and sage sausage, broth and seasonings. Both versions turned out great. Hubby and guests loved the traditional dressing and I enjoyed the low carb flavorful breadless dressing with leftovers for lunch or dinner.

I did at 3 weeks post op.
I'd lost a good bit prior to surgery and it continued to fall off.
I was at Best Buy looking at music....bent down to the grab a CD from the bottom shelf and almost....almost passed out. Cold sweat, dizzy, clammy feeling for a while after. Went outside and sat in car a while before driving home.
I checked my blood pressure once I made it home. It was crazy low. I was still taking meds for high blood pressure, too. A call to the doctor....meds were immediately cut in half with a plan to further reduce later on.
I felt much better a couple days later an only experience the dizziness when I had low blood pressure.
Around 6 months post op I was taken off the meds and my blood pressure has been doing very well since.
Not sure if that's what is causing yours....but it caught me off guard bigtime.
