After years of looking after mom in her home, moving her to a retirement home etc. I had to put her in a Nursing Home last weekend. The sense of peace that she is safely looked after is helping me. Back to the gym and looking after ME. Even my boss sent me an email about my great work this week

I understand being scared. There are good meds which will help the hour waiting for surgery. (Ativan). When they started to put me to sleep I had a little panic and wanted to change my mind. I am stubborn and knew this was a life saving surgery I needed

I am almost never hungry which is great. I went to the gym last night. My daughter was in the pool at the gym and called me to make sure I would go. I feel awesome after.

I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. I'm looking ahead to plastics some day myself. I have no advice since I'm still in my first year, but just sending support. I hope things turn around for you.

Please bear in mind that I am a very happy and very successful bandit now 8 years post-op. I do not regret my band, would do it all over again and if I ever have to have it removed, I would hope to have a replacement.
When I was banded in 2006, it was a miracle surgery. And for some people, who accept that they will still have to work hard, it is just that. It was and still is for me. But over the years it has become clear that serious complications necessitating further surgery are much more common than originally thought, some of these are avoidable by careful eating and by not keeping the band tight; unfortunately others are beyond our control.
We used to be warned about band slips, leaks and about ( very rare) erosion into the stomach tissue but it turns out that a build up of scar tissue round the band (causing it to tighten) is quite common. It can be very difficult to get the right level of restriction and some people are tempted to keep it tight enough to physically limit food, in fact it was once thought this was how it should be. But this causes food to back up into the oesophagus and that risks problems such as oesophageal dysmotility which may be irreversible. It can also damage the vagus nerve.
We still need lots of will power. The band makes it easier by dimming hunger, but it does nothing for head hunger and, contrary to popular opinion, it does not and should not physically stop us eating. If it does it is too tight!
Having said all that, I love my band, I know many successful long term bandits in real life. On this board, you will find more people who will put forward the case against the band than in favour of it and I do not for one second question their experiences. But my own experience has been good and so has that of almost all those I actually know and have met.

I had Lipo, Tummy Tuck, back Lipo and butt fat transfer and it ran around $10K. It was worth every dime. The typical down time is like 10-14 days. But I took off till after the first of the year. More like any extra week. I'm recovering quite well. I was able to drive myself to the post Op appt on the 8th day. I was feeling pretting good. The first 4 days are the hardest.

I agree. I had stuck and sliming episodes but it was always from eating too fast and not chewing to paste. Now it's rare but I am still at the same fill level. I really have to work on slow eating and chewing.

It took me ONE night to love my CPAP I put my mask on, set alarm for work, place my head on my pillow and alarm goes off. No tossing and turning, no waking up, no night reading because I cannot sleep I do hope one day to not need it but for now it is my best friend.

I just had to share this very exciting day with everyone. It has been 13 years since I was last under 300lbs and today I weighed myself and was at 298! I couldn't be happier with my choice to get banded and am still not in my "greenzone" so I know there is more work to do and more success to be had.
