MarieMarie reacted to freshair in at the table or on the sofa?
I think it's about being able to slow down on the couch as at the table you want to finish quicker and get up from the table

I did a step class last night. I have not recuperated from my first Zumba class Saturday yet. I was going to go to the gym tonight but in the winter my life revolves around good weather driving. The storm has just started here

MarieMarie reacted to Short and Chunky in Band slippage
So sorry you chaps are having a problem with your bands. I had a band slippage in April of last year (3.5 years after getting my band - 124 pounds lost). Reflux and bad pain, vomiting blood - just awful. Well, my band was removed (too much scar tissue) and 6 months later - I had gained 50 pounds..I was just sick - I missed my band and wanted it back. My surgeon agreed he said I did not weigh enough for RNY and my insurance would not pay for a sleeve. On 12/29 he put the band back in. I have lost close to 20 pounds - I have not had any fills and I am doing fantastic. I feel like I am in control and have the power once again. Good luck to you both and I hope you can have your problems taken care of without regaining the weight you lost. Regaining was so hard on me mentally - made me eat even more. Good Luck...

Having the band too tight will definitely give you medical problems. This doesn't make it he bands fault. I monitor carefully that I have no acid reflux and all is ok. I am not allowed to get a fill if I am not following the diet and monitoring everything.

When I get to the point when I decide I am AT GOAL I would love to contribute to this thread. For some reason I don't feel my journey ends.

MarieMarie got a reaction from Debbie3sons in What's your goal? And what are you doing to get yourself there?
I like smaller goals. I was a 3x. Fitting back into 2x was great. Now working towards 1x. XL would be a Dream come true. I have a large bone structure. I would be a skinny size 16

MarieMarie reacted to GoCubbies79 in Robbed of my Lap Band
Hello All:
I was banded in March of 2011 and had great success, I lost 240lbs. Back in December of 2013 I started getting this weird feeling near my port, not pain, just a weird feeling. I didn't think much of it and thought maybe some scar tissue was forming. A few weeks went by and pain started to creep up on me and get worse each day.
I went to see my primary care doctor who ordered an xray. I was told that I just had a backup in my intestines and needed to add some Fiber into my diet. I did as the doctor instructed and noticed a slight increase in my bowel movements however the pain was not getting any better.
I was a little reluctant to see my lab band surgeon because I had gained a few pounds since my last visit and didn't want to disappoint him since I had such great success overall.
The pain got even worse so I thought I would face the music so I went and saw him in mid January 2014. Of course the dr confronted me on the few pounds I had gained and performed a fill. I think expressed my true purpose for seeing him which was the pain not necessarily my weight gain or need for a fill.
He ordered a CT scan and sent me on my way.
Over the next few days absolute hell broke loose on me. The area he inserted the needle to fill my band turned blochy red almost looked like a rash was forming. A swollen bubble started to form over that area as well that looked like a blister full of liquid.
I called his office and got some receptionist telling me he had no openings for two weeks. The instant I mentioned the rash and bubble the told me to come in immediately. I went in to see him and the results from the CT scan were in as well.
I was sadly informed that my band had eroded into my stomach. There was a nasty infection brewing inside me around the band and my stomach as well as all down the tubing and around the port.
The band was removed the next morning where I then spent the next week in the hosptial on IV antibiotics. For two months i was out of work on hardcore antibiotics. I also had to see a dr specializing in infectious disease and had a home care nurse come to my house twice a week to clean out the wound from where the port was removed.
Here I am a year later having gained about 30lbs back and so mad that the band failed me. I was doing so well, people were looking at me differently, and it was all taken away in an instant.
Has anyone else gone through this? What could have caused the erosion? I asked the dr and he said it just happens to about 2% of people.

MarieMarie reacted to Julie norton in What's the end goal?
I feel your body sort of selects a set point where it is comfortable. May be higher than charts and docs want. But what do YOU want? A size 12 was great for me. I am so healthy a few extra lbs come and go. But I basically hover around the same weight for 7 years that is how I figured my end zone. Good luck

Never give up on yourself!! Good for you for facing this. You can stop potential damage and get right to losing the weight right now. Consider the last few months a poor choice and a Detour, but today is when it turns around. Call and make an appointment. Get in to see the doc and NUT asap. If you have Protein shakes sure, use them. No need to starve yourself. Replace a lousy food choice like fast fried food with a Protein shake today. Eat some lean Protein at every meal first. Don't drink with your meal or for half an hour afterward. Your band needs to be checked out and you may get a strict menu from your doc, but listen to him or her and chalk it up to experience.
Here's one thing I will say. When I was nineteen I thought I was indestructible. I abused my body and overate. I smoked. I never exercised. I became obese in my twenties and because I was always able to get up and do it again the next day I thought nothing of it. Well all the years of obesity and bad choices left me with shot knees, back disc problems, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, chronic bronchitis in winter, infertility, hemorrhoids, Migraines and half a dozen prescription medicines and half a dozen OTC medicines just to get through each day.
At 53 I got my LapBand. As you and I know, it doesn't do the work for us.
But as you don't know yet BUT I DO, once you really commit to the banded lifestyle, it gets easier and the band does help you stick to good eating. Once you stick to good eating, the weight starts coming off. Once the weight starts coming off, you feel better. Once you feel better, you start to make other changes, like moving more. Once you move more, the weight comes off faster. Once the weight comes off faster, your self confidence increases. Once your self confidence increases, you begin to believe you are worth it. And once you believe you are worth it, you've made a lasting change.
You can do this. You don't need to waste your twenties and thirties and forties. You have a LapBand and a supportive community here and a doc and a NUT who all want you to succeed.
Take this step today and save your life. You are worth it. We will help.

Ok. First thing I would do is get in to see my doc and nutritionist. I know you are prob embarrassed to see them because you've ditched appointments and have been making bad food choices but they are there to help you. Until you get in to see them I would take a few days and do liquids just to restart the mindset. You really might need to think about a counselor or therapist to make sure you are ready and able to deal with all of these changes. I wish you the best. I would have given anything to have done this at your age and not waited until I was in my late 30s. You can do this!!

MarieMarie reacted to melissa160 in Hating that I told my friends from college
I've told most everyone, not interested in keeping it secret. Yes, plenty of folks had negative or scary things to say but my resolve was much too great. I also noticed some people are now dieting as well but I welcome that. I am happy if I've inspired people to try to be healthier, it's not a competition, I truly hope that have long term success. The only person I am trying to be better than is me from yesterday.
