mamie60 reacted to DLCoggin in 50-60% Excess weight loss in 2 years
I'm a bypass guy so I have no experience to base any comments on regarding the sleeve. I do know a little something about my journey following my bypass. I lost 130 lbs in just over 14 months. Starting weight was 285 and my weight leveled off at 155 and a BMI of 22.9 (height 5' 9"). I'm now almost two years and nine months post-op. Since hitting 155, my weight has never been above 156 or below 151. This morning I was 151.4.
"Excess weight" is usually defined by the medical community as any weight that results in a BMI of 25 or greater. So by that definition, I lost a little over 100% of my excess weight. To this day I always find that quite bizarre. There's absolutely nothing special about me. My approach to my weight loss journey was quite simple and unassuming. Stay positive. Stay patient. Stay focused on following the plan as closely to the letter as I possibly could. Exercise to my ability. And maintain a food log.
Neither my surgeon nor any member of her team ever suggested a goal weight. And I never asked. My goal was to simply follow my plan until my body told me it was where it wanted to be. I never had any preconceived idea regarding how long my weight loss should/could/would take. I was confident that I would know when I arrived at my destination. And that's exactly what happened.
I believe that the weight loss journey is much less stressful, and much more fun, if you just forget about time limits and goal weights. Trust the process. Trust your body. Allow it to find its own way in its own time. Your body will tell you when it's where it wants to be. And when your body is where it wants to be - you're gonna love the new you!

I also use Premier Protein and they now sell it at SAMS. 2/day and you've met your goal. I had to add milk in the beginning, but now I can drink it no problem.
Good Luck tomorrow, mamie60! Sending Prayers!

So many... I use a normal towel after I shower instead of a beach towel. I use a normal public bathroom stall instead of the handicap stall. I cross my legs all the time. I don't sweat as much. I am never out of breath. I can run up the stairs at my house instead of hanging on the banister all the way up. I'm in single digit clothing. I don't dread being in a picture... In fact I'm front and center now. So many more.... I smile all the time now!!!

Only 2 weeks out, but a 1/4 cup of any kind of fat free " cream of " canned Soup in a mug with your choice flavor of low sodium broth, warmed slightly, satisfied me soooo much....

I was sleeved July 1, 2013 by Doctor Rayford Kruger at Tobey Hospital in Massachusetts. Here's my official before/after pic, with my stats for both the day of my surgery, and my one year surgiversary. It's mindblowing to me that not only am I NEVER again going to shop in the Plus Size section of any store, but I will willingly step in front of a camera, while wearing a bathing suit. Who is this person?!
I have absolutely NO regrets and consider this surgery to have been a total success. For the first time in decades, I'm proud of the way I look and how hard I fought to achieve it, with my sleeve's help. Happy Independence Day, indeed!!

It's official! I'm excited to announce that our next North Denver Bariatric Meetings are scheduled. We couldn't do it on Wednesday's as they were already booked, so hopefully people can still make it. If the 2nd Monday of every month winds up working for everyone, we'll try to keep it constant.
    Monday, July 14th
    Monday, August 11th
    Start time is 6pm:
Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library & Broomfield Auditorium
    3 Community Park Road
    Broomfield, CO 80020
    720-887-2356
I will send reminders again as the meeting date gets closer. I'd like to get an idea of our final head count so I can prepare accordingly. Thanks Kim Tocci for helping make the reservations!
