I am a 21 year old girl who had the surgery 10/22/14. It is the best decision. I have ever made in my life and I would never ever take it back. So far I am 130 pounds down and I feel amazing. Some things I wish I knew? Well, I knew what would happen physically, there would be pain, less eating, weight loss, loose skin. On my clear liquid diet I was very week I could barely make it up the stairs and I passed out from trying, so we started my full liquids a couple of days earlier. That was the only thing physically that I wasn't expecting g was how week I would be from the liquid diet. What I wasn't prepared for was the mental issues. I wear a size 16 now and when I look in the mirror I still feel like I wear a size 30. It breaks my heart. Your self esteem grows but not as fast as you lose the weight and I wasn't expecting to feel like this. It's hard to see yourself as beautiful. I also struggle with losing my food addiction. And not putting it toward something else like shopping, alcohol, sex. It's been so rough mentally. Just know when you lose the weight it is good to have a good support group and you won't yourself immediatly but you will with time

I agree with all before on this thread --- really wish i had done this sooner in my life, but I had bad misperceptions about the bypass surgery and felt it would be a defeat. I am 5 weeks out, and very glad to have it done.
I like the idea of what Kelli said...experiment with foods. Some people can handle different foods than others. My pouch can handle hot sauce, low fat pepper jack, refried Beans, V-8. My pouch rebels at anything with sugar alcohols, mustard, anything with fat except olive oil and avocados.....
    Good luck.

Honestly I wish I knew that I could do this, I would have done it 15 years ago before I caused so much damage to my body.
    I was too scared.

I am very thankful because on July 8, 2014 i had RNY. I have not had any problems with vomiting or nausea or any of the other problems people have had. It will soon be six months and as of today I have lost 101 Pounds! So thankful for my family and friends support, my surgeon and his clinical nurse specialist. And thankful for all of you here at bariatric pal for your support!

I had surgery July 2014. My surgeon and nutritionist both go by the rule that you eat three meals a day no snacking. I've been doing that since I had surgery and I've lost 90 pounds. I really honestly do not feel hungry since I had surgery. I seem to be doing well so I'm staying with the three meals a day no snacking.

My first grandchild was born August 6, 2013, the most beautiful baby boy. I was visiting one time when he was about four months old. My daughter and her husband were going to be working that evening. And I figured I would be babysitting for him. But my daughter looked me in the eye and said mom we don't think you can handle him you can't get off the couch quickly, you can't hold him to stand up and walk around for very long, we just feel like we need to have a babysitter instead of you. I was devastated but I also understood and realized that she was correct! It was on that day that I decided I needed to do something and probably had to be RNY. So when I joined this decided what my nickname would be Mamie because that's what my grandson calls me and I was 60 when he was born. He saved my life thank you Daniel!

She and I had a long discussion and decided that as long as I have energy, my blood work is ok that I would advance slowly. I am no longer diabetic, no more high blood pressure. Off all meds.

My nutritionist has me eating 1/4-1/3 cups of food 3Xs per day and one Protein Shake a day. Between 300-450 calories per day. I had surgery on 7/8/2014 and I have lost 74 pounds as of today! Feeling great walking 5 miles a day and going to the gym 4 days a week!

Wow! Our stories are very similar. We both started at the same weight! I had my surgery 7/14/14 and have lost about the same amount as you in 3 months. My problem is that I don't measure the food I eat. I usually weigh my Protein and now and can pretty much tell a 3 oz. serving. There isn't room for much else! I think after the Protein I get another 1/4 from a veggie or yogurt, etc. I think we are both doing great! Congrats on the first 3 months so far and from getting off of of your meds! Here's to the next 3 months!!!!

Eating in 5 mins won't cause you to gain weight. You ate the proper portion. However, it won't keep you full for very long. 5 mins = 1 hour. So if you eat your meal in 25 mins, you should be full for the next 5 hours. It doesn't always work that way, at least for me, but when I eat slowly it does keep me fuller for longer. Not to mention that when you're eating all your dinner in 5 mins you're not giving the stomach time to release what's already in there, and you risk having pain from feeling extremely full.
Slow down and take your time. It definitely makes a difference. I'm guessing you're in the pureed food stage. When you start to eat solids you'll know you have to slow down.
