  1. All our bodies react differently with the band.

For me if I have more than 1 cc then have a tremendous amount of acid reflux. So after years of trying to put in more Fluid for more restriction I have learned that 1 cc is my limit and not to try any more.

Fluid Intake is another key I almost never drink with my meal or drink anything prior and after my meals for 20 minutes.

Otherwise it seem that I can eat forever when I drink with my meals

For me I need to go to bed by 9pm because I tend to eat late at night.

I do quite a bit of walking which helps pass some of the time away.

Seems that I eat or graze during the day if I do not take in at least 40 to 64 ounces of liquid.

I use the 80 20 rule that is make good eating choices 80% of the time and enjoy my self without guilt the other 20% of the time

I still chew and chew and chew my food even mash potatos on thos rare occasions when I indulge in the 20% time

For example last night we had Spaghetti and Meatballs and my portion size was 1/4 of everyone else but because I was very slow in eating I was still the last one to finish.

I know that I could of eaten a lot more food last night but going into the meal I had already made up my mind that I would not over eat. I did reach for more but did not partake of more.

Even if I would of eaten more I would not feel any guilt and it could of been part of my 20%,

I am constantly look at my fist and remind myself would what I m planning to eat fill my fist and then that helps me to have Portion Control.

For me the lapband is just a tool and only I can control what goes in my mouth whether I am filling restriction or not.

  2. Very impressive

    Keep up the good work.

Losing weight during Covid and the Holidays takes dedication

For me one of the mantra that I tried to follow is the the 80 / 20 rule. 80% of the time make good choices and 20% take the freedom to enjoy a treat or indulge (small Portion) of some item that you have not had in a while.

Today I have many things to be Thankful for

That's great to hear.....especially w so many band bashers out there........I'm 18 years out myself (was my doctors first patient actually) kept all my weight off all these years UNTIL....5 years ago late in my pregnancy( my baby girl wasn't gaining enuf weight ..had all Fluid removed...gained all the weight back FAST....was embarrassed to go back to my doctor for a refill...which was silly...but finally did 8 weeks ago and weight falling back off again just like it always did...I lived all these years as a "skinny person" with that famous perfect "sweet spot" in my band that I forgot I'm really a fat person in a banded skinny body lol...can't believe how fast weight came back (AND my food addictions)when Fluid was removed during pregnancy......and she was premature still..weighing 3 pounds......so I set recommend fluid removal when pregnant ......I now got my refill now and ..been losing like crazy again now that I got my sweet spot w my band again....band for me has truly been a lifesaver...would NEVER have it removed....its all about that sweet spot ....

I have only had my band for 13 years so 18 years is very impressive. For the most part have kept off most of the weight but just have to remember to make more good choices than bad one.

I tried to adhere to the Following "Use the 80/20 Rule: 80% of the time, make ideal, healthy choices. The other 20% of the time, enjoy the treats you love in moderation and let yourself savor the experience."

Makes losing weight slower but we are in this for a safe lifetime.

  4. I normally gain during November and December and then take the next few months losing the weight.

This year I had to work from home and by the middle of May had gained 7 lbs from the holidays and then an additional 10 lbs from March to the Middle of May.

As of today I have lost the 17 lbs. Part of my insurance program is they have an app where I weigh in every day and give you suggestions on losing weight. You also have to take picture of your meals and submit on the app. As a result of having someone to be accountable to has kept me somewhat in line.

The main weight gaining opportunity is unhealthy snacking. So this been curtailed as well.

melflirt01 hit the nail on the head. Many doctors won't even do lap bands anymore as the patients that have had them a long time are encountering problems. I'm one of those statistics--mine is 10 years old and I'm having it removed next month. Good luck to all the bandsters here!

Take care and good luck to you as well

Have missed which step-counter works best. Please advise

I use Pedometer++ for Iphone, gives you something to work for every month.

Pedometer++ is one of the most highly-rated step counter apps on iTunes, with over 8,000 positive customer reviews. It lets you keep track of your daily and weekly step counts without draining your battery. It quantifies metrics such as steps taken, calories burned, and distance walked, and rewards you once you reach your goals.

I tracked everything I ate for 3 years running & didn't lose an oz. Tight control of 1800-2000 calories. Various issues such as Barrett's esophagitis came & went....mostly.

At 70 ++ I'm mostly convinced the Band not only saved my life but continues to help despite moments pondering whether further surgery has likely benefit.

    Haven't followed much here lately.

I also believe that the band has saved my life. No doubt I would be over 400 lbs by now.

My quality of life has greatly improved these last 12 years.

Back to 178 so pleased to have my lapband as a tool but I still have to watch what I put into my mouth and keep up an exercise program and check in once in awhile on this board.

Seems that if I do all three then either hoping to reach my elusive goal of 170 this year

Finally after almost 12 year the scale finally showed 170 which was my long term goal weight on August 29, 2019. For me the Band though not always my friend but a tool to remind me to keep going.

  9. I agree with wish to be slim everyone’s experience is different. I will have my 12 year band anniversary in September so not very long. I have the original 4 cc band with only 1 cc. Any more than 1 cc for me is too much.

From my experience getting the band was the best decision for my life

Good lucj as you begin your new adventure

Thanks monkey.... it is a breath of fresh air to read how many of us enjoy NonInvasive surgery.
It does and can work for many.
I feel it took years for my band to train ME... and we don’t disagree much. Years and years have helped indelibly imprint my lifestyle thanks again

Still feeling good about my recession to have the Lapband.

Keeps me humble. Just need to keep making more good choices than bad choices.

Looks likes it been awhile since anyone has posted.

I have gained 9 lbs since August 2018 had once again reached my lowest weight of 178. which for 6 months is not to bad. In years prior to the band I would of lost 50 lbs in a year and put back 70 lbs in 6 months.

Still walking at least 10,000 steps a day. My A1C for the second time in a year is at 5.2.

Still appreciate that the band keeps me somewhat in line.

    Hoping to hear from others.
