It is different for everyone but mine was very difficult. No lie you get nausea quite a bit. You get kinda mental lol. My bowel obstructed at 2 weeks so another surgery. was in and out of the hospital 18 days the first two months. At 6 months the gallbladder had to go so another surgery.I'm 18 months out now and it's still a challenge can't be far from a bathroom but hey I'm a size 4. Life is good and there are good and bad days so I'll keep on going cause I can't turn back now. Good luck with your journey.

At 1.5 yrs out I must say I've cheated a lot. One day I just wanted a doughnut so bad I drove to Krispy Kreme and got one. I ate it I dumped I felt guilty I haven't done it since. I give in every now and then just to satisfy my mental state if that makes any sense. I sorta was forced to have this surgery so the weight really wasn't the issue. My starting weight was only 181 today it is 120 I had rny as a resort to my stomach being removed. I have no remnant pouch it had to be removed during my surgery which took 10.5 hours 8 days later an obstructed bowel surgery, then the gall bladder 6 months later it's been a rough road but I'm on it [emoji847]

I had my surgery 7-15-2016 , exactly 1 mth ago and it's very hard and life changing. I wonder everyday what did I just do.. ? To myself. It's very hard and nothing easy about it. Your food choices change and it's very emotional. Restaurants you can forget them for now. I do follow the food plan, I am very strict and careful on what I am eating. If you get somethings stuck one time you will never try to do that again.. It's hard. I do see weight loss.. I have lost 30pounds in 1 mth since surgery. I am 8 pounds from under 200 pounds.. Can't wait for that. But it's been hard. I just wish everyone luck on there journey if your just starting. It does get better, everyday. But it's still hard and emotional. Good luck!

I'm sorry about your ex, Dibaby44. But I have to reiterate that marijuana is not physically addictive. He may have used it like he was an addict, and perhaps been mentally addicted. But it is not physically addictive like cigarettes, alcohol, or illegal drugs like meth, cocaine, or the such. There has also never been a reported incident of an overdose related death from marijuana use.
It may affect someone's life in a negative way, and it does affect short term memory while you are smoking, however, those are supposedly reversible affects from the studies I've read. Anything used in excess can be harmful to ones life and their loved ones... and that part stinks for everyone involved.
I'm not trying to be a huge proponent of smoking marijuana, but I've done a lot of research on marijuana use, and I know a lot of facts about it. I hate that people believe it's some kind of dangerous horrible drug. Personally, I believe the use of marijuana is much better an alcohol or cigarettes... and nowadays, particularly for medicinal use, there are far better ways to get the benefits rather than smoking it too. Autistic children are reaping benefits from the marijuana oils ingested in cookies/breads/etc.
Now should a bariatric patient smoke after surgery? I have no idea. I do know my doctor is very adamant that smoking cigarettes can affect your stomach after surgery, so perhaps using the oils would be a better choice?
And for the record, I don't partake in marijuana use. Why? Because it's illegal in the state I live in.

robysrose got a reaction from Knitchic in Bypass for reflux and hernia
Hello I also had a bypass for hernia repair because a Nissan failed. However I'm 9 months out and still get heartburn but it's controlled with nexium. I received the gastric bypass at a starting weight of only 171 lbs insurance did cover it though. It's been quite a road living this lifestyle and recovering from the surgery as there were a few complications. The bypass took 10.5 hours 8 days later the bowel obstructed and 5 months later the gallbladder had to go. So it's been trying. My advice is just do a lot of research on living after surgery as it is quite different in a mental aspect. Good luck

I think we are all grown here. She's really feeling bad and if she felt the need to say a cuss word then she is entitled to that. You didn't have to comment on it. Don't try to down her more by lecturing her she's obviously going through some things. Not trying to blow this up.. So no need to comment back..

robysrose reacted to Heather_8.1.14 in sick of our limited options with puree :( I need suggestions please?
UGH me too!! My puree phase still continues until I see the doctor in SEPTEMBER!!! I just want to cry. I've been trying to get creative and some of my new things are now:
(mind you I proportion these as needed, Im not eating the whole can, etc...)
    1 can chicken
some low fat shred chedder cheese
    some franks red hot
    low fat ranch dressing
Blend that baby up, give it a min or two in the microwave and its almost like a puree version of buffalo chicken dip. Satisifies my craving for a spicier food and isn't as boring and bland as tuna
I also puree a can of Hormel chili

My RNY was July 1st, and I am doing better than great! Minimal pain and no nausea right from the beginning, never hungry. Resumed most around the house things like laundry and cooking for the family, driving and getting out around the second week. Stab wounds healed nicely. I LOVE my Premier Protein shakes; and step away from my sugar free/ fat free puddings. Down 22 pounds since surgery day. I AM TRULY BLESSED.

My doctor never suggested a calorie limit either. 11g of Protein is great. I have an Excel spreadsheet that has almost 100 grocery store, frozen, and fast food items that are all high in protein (and I'm adding to it all the time). Forum rules don't allow me to post it but I'd be glad to email it to you if post your email address or PM it to me. I've sent it to dozens of folks here on the forum. One of the biggest (and best) surprises I've had following my RNY has been the number of delicious, high protein options there are out there!!
