  1. Finally broke the stall. Down 20 pounds since surgery, 35 overall. Also lost 10.75 inches. Now I just need to get up and start exercising!

Yeah, I found it hard to get started with the exercise at first as well, but once you get going, it gets easier.

  2. Idaho Wine run this Saturday. Wild fire 10 mile away from the race. Hazy vizion people with inhalers. Oh this should be interesting.

I was thinking of you today while driving north from CA to Oregon. We drove through so many miles of thick smoke from wildfires. In some places, just breathing was challenging.

Breathing smoke while exerting yourself doesn't sound very good, but maybe the wind will blow in the other direction.

  5. Today my endocrinologist who I just met and has no idea who I really am, refused to refer me to my surgeon so my insurance can cover my gastric sleeve. I'm devastated. I've been trying all day to stay calmed. I don't know what to do. The worst part is being told by my family and friends "maybe is for the best".

This guy won't be able to hold you back. Go around him and keep fighting. Good luck.

  6. some may disagree and im sorry in advance, but I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone. I've stopped using it because I read posts that don't get answered, and I post some of my own and no one responds. I haven't been on here in weeks because of it.

I'm sorry you felt ignored. I felt the same way when I first started participating but once I started posting more often, my response rate increased. Maybe your posts haven't been seen by enough people?

  8. So the day of my surgery they almost didn't do it because my sugar was 73. I did exactly what they told me to the two weeks prior to my surgery. She came over to me and said your chart is incorrect it says you have type 2 diabetes not type 1. I simply stared at her and waited because I was sure she had a point. Then she just walked away. Anyways after my surgery my sugar was ridiculously high. It was 199 WTF!

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

I'm surprised that the nurse made that assumption based on one blood sugar reading. Since you have to fast before surgery, it's pretty normal for levels to be off. Don't worry about the blood sugar spike after surgery. I had the same experience and my diabetes has been in remission ever since.

I noticed that a friend came into the office wearing fall colors today and I started to feel regret that summer seems so short. The kids will be back in school in 2 weeks.

  12. I really try not to compare myself to others, but I'm feeling jealous of the people who drop weight quickly. Especially when they weigh like 100 pounds less than me.

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

We say we shouldn't compare ourselves to others and then most of us do it anyway. It's human nature. As long as you keep reminding yourself that your journey is unique and that you only control your behavior, not your body's response, the brief feelings of envy won't get you down.

  13. This morning my weight was down to 105, giving me a BMI of 18.6. My doc recommends that my BMI be above 20. It’s time to start taking this seriously. I’ve been in diet mode for so long that I’ve gotten used to always choosing the lowest calorie/highest nutrition option at every opportunity. I have to branch out into higher calorie/high nutrition foods as well.

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

Yes, I have definitely overshot my goal by too much. But it's hard for me to loosen up on the discipline without allowing myself to get back into the habit of eating unhealthily. I'm working on it. Today at lunch I ate some fresh pineapple. Yum.

  14. I know this is crazy as it would never have happened on my own but just 16 days afar surgery i am only 114 pounds down and I'm starving

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

I assume you meant 14 lbs. or maybe 11 lbs. Either way that's a pretty good result after 2 weeks. You are still in the "hell phase." Most of us started feeling better once we progressed to the solid food phase. Hang in there.

  15. ahhhh, hubby made some sweet and low chicken over rice tonight, I only had a few bites and my body did the sugar dumping thing...

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

Try substituting stevia for the sugar and mashed cauliflower for the rice. I really enjoy it that way.

  16. Last week my four-year-old grandson told me that I have “mashed potato arms” and then proceeded to waggle my bat wing. At the time I didn’t react, but I guess it really bothered me since I’m still thinking about it. This loose skin is a scourge.

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

It's strange, but even though I'm verging on being underweight, I still feel fat because my arms and abdomen have quite a lot of fat under the loose skin. When people tell me that I'm skinny, my mind flashes on the body parts I always keep covered. I need to save up for plastics.

  17. The thinner I get, the wilder my wardrobe. Too much color? Too bad, I'm having a blast.

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

Today I'm wearing a pair of coral, white and dusty pink floral patterned capri style jeans. A couple of years ago, I could not have imagined wearing them. I would have felt like a billboard. Now I don't care. They're fun and I'm wearing them. Being thinner has given me so much more confidence when it comes to fashion.

I run smack into this phenomenon when I talk politics or economics with certain friends/family. No amount of facts or recounting of history will make a dent in their convictions.

  19. 10 months post-op today! Only 6.6 pounds to goal!

  20. I met with a cardiologist yesterday. I definitely feel better after seeing him. He believes having two major surgeries in 8 months has played a huge role. My passing out, dizziness and low heart rate is being caused by 3 things: surgeons using steroids during and after spine surgery has caused my adrenal system to be out of whack which is causing my body to take longer to acclimate to positional changes, dehydration from the ability to swallow much for the last 4 weeks and the nerve in my cervical spine that was impacted and controls heart rate is irritate. He said it is like a perfect storm. An endocrinologist can help me with the adrenal gland issue. Of course Imy throat is getting better making hydration a bit easier and I just have to give that nerve some time to heal. My heart looks very health! Thanks for all the well wishes!

  21. Nervous today. I meet with a cardiologist to see why my heart rate is so low and I keep feeling dizzy/lightheade. I passed out a week ago. All of this following major spine surgery. Off all medications and it is still happening. I hope they don't find anything too scary but need answers. Wish me luck!

  22. What on earth does Joe's Crab Shack do to 6 little grilled shrimp on a stick to make them over 300 calories??????

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

I often question the accuracy of the calorie counts on menus. When in doubt, I use the USDA nutritional info instead.

  24. so mentally challenging.........how do you get your mind on track with the "new" you?.......problem is, I am so not used to getting attention and it's really, really hard......

    1. IcanMakeit

      IcanMakeit

As time passes, you will get more comfortable with the new you, and begin to enjoy the positive attention. But I hope you are not being subjected to rudeness. If so, walk away. Rude people do not deserve a response.

      IcanMakeit

It's normal to be apprehensive. They will take good care of you at the hospital, though. Don't be hesitant to ask for whatever you need to feel comfortable.
