    Had mine on May 12th

I also had my surgery on May 12. The first few weeks were pretty rough due to nausea. I couldn't drink enough and was constantly dehydrated. The liquid diet got old pretty fast, too. But now that I'm on real food, things are looking up. One curious thing: that first month when I was having only around 300 to 650 calories a day on liquids, I barely lost any weight. But now that I'm eating real food, in the 800 calorie range, I'm losing three pounds per week. I know I won't keep up this pace for long, but it's thrilling while it lasts. I'm following this thread because I would like to hear from others who had the sleeve around the same time. I hope others will check in.

    Failing miserably at post-op diet

I'm not sure you need to call the doctor unless your discomfort persists or gets worse. But I do think you need some support. Do you go to a bariatric support group? If not, maybe you should give that a try.

    Failing miserably at post-op diet

Please stop beating yourself up. I'm sure many have done worse. Changing your eating habits is hard. Not everyone can do it without backsliding a bit. The important thing is not that you made some mistakes. The important thing is now you can recommit to following your doctor's plan with full knowledge of the pitfalls. Today is over. Tomorrow will be better. Take it one day at a time. As long as you head in the right direction, you'll get to where you want to be. When you find yourself heading in the wrong direction, turn around.
  4. Sounds so great! Our pool has been decommissioned for years and we can't afford to repair/replace it. But boy do I miss it when the temperature skyrockets. It's a great place to exercise, too.

    NSV for me!

It has been so long since I've worn high heels that I don't even remember the last time. Come to think of it, it would be fun be able to wear high heels again. I guess I'll put that on my list of things to look forward to.
  6. I love this post. Here are some little things I want to do: Ride my bike to work without having to walk up the (pretty small) hills. Get on the floor to play with my grandchildren without pains in my back, knees and hips. Go shopping in the regular size section of a fashionable store, find something cute and then buy it because it fits. Go to Disneyland and be able to ride on the rides without embarrassment. Wear a bathing suit in public.

    Sleeve or Lapband?

When I first met with my surgeon, he asked me, before saying anything else, which procedure I was interested in. When I told him that I was looking into VSG, I could tell by his reaction that he thought I had made the best choice. He may not have tried to influence me too much if I had said the lapband, but he was very enthusiastic about the sleeve. This gave me confidence that I had chosen the right procedure. Before you decide, do some research on the short term and long term outcomes of both procedures, and then let those findings guide you. I hope you are successful, however you decide.
  8. You do not owe anyone information about your personal health. I did not tell my boss what kind of surgery I was having. The upside of this is that my privacy was preserved and I don't have to deal with uninformed commentary. The downside is that people are speculating and making incorrect guesses as to what my surgery entailed. However no one has asked me for clarification, so I'm ok with letting them wonder. I'm 5 weeks post-op and have not experienced a dramatic weight loss. This makes it less obvious to everyone. My co-workers all know that I've been dieting since the beginning of the year and I lost a significant amount of weight before the surgery.

Vsg 4 weeks out and struggling

Hi Meredith, Your post sounds something like what I'm going through. I was sleeved a couple of days before you and have only lost 8 lbs since the surgery. And almost all of that was in the second week. I lost weight more consistently from January to May, before the surgery. I'm not as active as you, my exercise consists of walking and bicycling, and when I tracked my foods, I confirmed that I'm not eating enough calories. I'm averaging around 600. So my body is probably in starvation mode. Maybe your results are better than mine because you're able to get in more calories and Protein, and you also exercise more vigorously than I can. (I have been a couch potato for the last ten years and it will take me a little while to work up to a more challenging workout schedule.) They say you shouldn't compare your weight loss with others', but I can completely relate to you feelings of frustration when you read about people who lose huge amounts in their first month. Maybe hearing from someone whose results are less stellar than yours will put things in perspective.

    African American Sleevers

@@pinklove I am sorry that you are going through such severe acid reflux. I experienced it only briefly in the first week post-op. It was not fun. I hope you feel better soon.
  11. I'm still a newby, so this may be temporary, but at this point I really miss fresh vegetables. I was lucky enough to be raised in California and generally had fresh vegetables every day. I'm hoping when I'm fully healed, I'll be able to eat them again. I also agree with others about the water. I'm thirsty all the time, but can't drink enough water in the time between meals. This too will probably ease up when I have adjusted.

    African American Sleevers

I have enjoyed reading all of the posts to this thread. I am a northern California AA woman who was sleeved on May 12. My surgery went well and there were no complications, except that H pylori was discovered during the surgery. (It didn't show up in the pre-op endoscopy.) I started my weight-loss journey back in January and lost 42 pounds before the surgery. Since the surgery, I have only lost 8 pounds. I believe this is because I have so much difficulty drinking the protein shakes and water that I'm supposed to. In the beginning, this was because of the nausea, that was exacerbated by the antibiotics that I was prescribed. And now, I just feel so darn full so fast. But I believe this will get better as well. My surgeon recommends a four week full liquid diet. I have noticed from lurking here that many people have the full liquids for only two weeks. I guess that's a question I should've asked pre-op, Lol.

Who is pre-op and who is post op?

Hello everyone. I am a 60-year-old woman who was sleeved on May 12. My surgery went well and there were no complications, except that H pylori was discovered during the surgery. not losing

I was sleeved on May 12. I weighed 202 on the day of my surgery and today I weigh 194. A loss of only 8 lbs. in almost 4 weeks. I know it's early days, but I can't help feeling disappointed. I lost weight at about the same rate all this year before I had the surgery while eating about 1200-1400 calories per day. (At the beginning of this year I weighed 244 lbs.) Now I can no longer eat or drink even half of what I had been consuming previously while still losing successfully. Did I make a huge mistake? I'm feeling very deprived and I'm often really hungry. When I was dieting before the sleeve, I missed my treats, but my diet was healthy and I felt well-nourished and energetic. Now I worry because I'm eating so few calories (daily intake has just now increased to about 600 cals.) and almost no fat. My energy level is much lower, even though I'm exercising more. I'm about done with the full liquid phase and will be moving into the purée phase in the next few days. I'm hoping that adding in more variety of foods and the fact that I can now drink enough Water, will turn things around. Otherwise, I want my stomach back.
