tracy6914 reacted to KShingler82 in Severe Constipation: Advice Please
Are you guys members of the Duodenal Switch groups on Facebook? They have helped me a TON! I just saw someone say their happy place is 120-150 Protein a day 100-200 fat depending on what they can get in and less then 50 carb... sounds like your nutritionist is talking rny.

My surgery date was July 16,2014. The first month was really hard. One of my connections was tight and my body responded like I had a bowel blockage. So I spent 18 nights ( not all in a roll) in the hospital within that first month and was on TPN for about a week. But now I'm doing great I'm down 72 lbs since surgery and 115 lbs since March. I'd do it all again. Good luck !!

I've lost 175 so far, and see no reason why 200 wouldn't be possible. Took about a year.

My labs showed my Protein levels were horrible and that will cause slow weight loss. I've increased my protein and have lost 8 lbs in a week and a half.

There are many senses that will go through changes as you lose weight. Your body is going through huge hormonal changes and those can cause issues with smell. Similar to a pregnant woman. It should subside as your nose gets back on track with things. Tastes will change too in case you haven't noticed that.

I'm home now and doing good. My incision around my belly button had to be reopened and has to be packed twice a day. So this is the only thing slowing my recovery. I had an umbilical hernia repair so the incision was larger than normal. My weight is why I had it. So I'm drinking great had vanilla Protein in coffee this morning it was great. Hope everyone else is doing good.

I'm still in the hospital because my digestion has been very slow. After drinking the stuff for X-ray I still had a lot in my stomach 24 hrs later and vomited a couple times. Since about 1 pm yesterday I've drank 45 ounces if Water and 6 ounces of coffee. Hoping to go home today I'm ready.

Curious how each surgeon does things differently. I didn't have to do any of that, not even once, even though I was told that I would. Perhaps they did it when I was still drugged with anesthesia and I just don't remember it. There is a huge chunk of time that I was apparently communicating with people but I just don't remember.
Glad you are doing ok. I am 12 days post op and although it does get better, it's still an uphill climb.

Surgery was Wednesday about 12:45 pm. That nite at 10 pm I was up walking and sat in a chair. Thursday I walked off and on slept a lot pain was pretty bad but mostly sore. Friday had to go drink contrast milky stuff worse thing so far ! Sat in X-ray from 8:30 am til 2 pm with very little movement. Back to X-ray at 7 pm. Then over nite was horrible I was sick vomiting which is not what your dr wants to say the least. Saturday has been a lot better. Still off to X-ray every 8 hrs but it's moving just very slowly. I did get ice chips thou best ice chips ever !! So now I still have no clue when I'll get to go home. But I'm feeling better by the hour. Dr ordered me a shot of Toradol which has helped tremendously. Still have my pain pump but haven't needed it today at all. I'm a work in progress and I'm excited !!

Averages are interesting but not limiting. I started at 308; lost 150 in 14 months to Get to my goal158'. I maintained for awhile and am now down to 140. So I went from a BMI over 50 to now 23. I lost more than 100 percent of my excess weight I was 48 when I was sleeved, 50 now.
I was told to expect to lose 60-70 percent of my excess weight based on my surgeon's averages. I asked the nutritionist how to beat the averages.
Don't know why you can't beat them too. It's not easy or even fast but it's possible.

tracy6914 reacted to ChristyAZ in Did your surgery ever get postponed ?
I was postponed for 3 months. Not due to the surgeon but because of my own sneaky health issues. The surgeon wanted me to take a few months healing time from diverticulitis. My original date was June 17th. Now it's August 13 (the 3 months started from the time I was hospitalized in May). It was a hard thing to deal with so I feel your pain. Time has flown by though and I am gearing up once again ..... this week will pass quickly and before you know it, you will be post op and really starting your journey. Good luck to you!

Wow, I give you all praise, I think I would have flipped over the chair (and what a mess that would be) if they postponed my surgery. Not that they gave you a choice. That really sucks, especially if you have to continue the same diet I did.
Good luck and if the call back, turn on the crazy. lol

I was given a tentative surgery date of July 29th. It will likely be postponed, so I'm prepared to be sleeved in August.

I have always always been very overweight. I haven't a clue how much I want to weight so I'm going for a healthy weight. I'm only 5ft 2 and weight 347 lbs right now. Since this time last yr I've lost 51 lbs. my surgery is this coming Monday so right now I am just working towards that. I'd like to weigh below a150 lbs but if I get below that I'd be thrilled !

Rooting for you! I was high Bmi too and am now normal weight at 140 i am 5'5"
My life time high was 332. I nearly croaked... had been in scale denial and went to weight watchers thinking I was under 300...
anyway my sleeve start weight was 308. I lost 150 over 14 months to get to my goal of 158...maintained about 6 months lost 10 more. I now weigh 140. I would have never imagined it possible when I was 300+ but it really is.
