I was banded May 15th, 2014 for the second time. I almost hate exercising but yesterday I walked 1 hour and 20 minutes. It cleared my head, boosted my confidence and clarified I will do what it takes to get to my goal weight. I am hungry oftentimes but dealing with it by drinking a lot of Water. I am patient and persistent. Last weekend I had to go in over the weekend for a slight amount of Fluid taken out. The days prior I had been miserable. I was nauseous and sptting up all liquid. I hold on to that misery because it motivates me to lose weight. I don't like being miserable and I don't like being hungry but I am persisting with my desire to get this weight off. Being overweight has isolated me and kept me from reaching out to people so I hope to hear from as many of you as possible. Thanks.

On my 1 day clear liquid diet in preparation for the surgery tomorrow. Hospital just called to confirm. I'm so nervous and pensive and feeling like i'm on the precipice of something amazing!!
We're renting a recliner so I can sleep at night - cause if i sleep in my own bed my 3 year old will CERTAINLY jump on my stomach at night. And we just can't have it.
But seriously??? I'M. SO. HUNGRY. I. CAN'T. THINK. STRAIGHT. All this clear liquid is NOT cutting it. GOSH.

I have surgery on the 11th. So far sugar free popsicles and MIO drops (for water) have been my go to item. My doc seems a bit more strict about the post diet than I have read. I have to do liquids for 4 weeks and then puree for 4 weeks before I can eat solid foods. Its going to be so tough! Good luck to the others going in this week as well!!

Glad you are feeling like you made the right choice, it's a good example of why many of us went with a procedure that was reversible. Like CG tells us, just because we can eat what we want, doesn't mean we should. Each choice we make, we have to own it.
Good luck to you, and thanks for sharing with us.

Wow!!! July 8th is popular! Mine is a few days later on the 11th. My doc only has me doing 1 day pre-op diet (clear liquid) - anyone else have that?

Hello! I am 3 days post op from lap-band. My stomach area is sore and tender and I don't think I could be comfortable with anything on there right now.
With that being said (and I am mother of 4 daughters) I don't think you will have any trouble letting your daughter know even though she is little/young now, mommy has an owie/ouchy and take a little snuggle right next to you instead.
More importantly stop worrying, somehow it always works out and you bond in so many ways. This will not slow you down, just open a new door.
    Good luck!
    Colleen

I'm starting to get those comments from family and friends....... "Surely, you don't want to lose any more weight....... You don't want to get too thin."
Are you kidding me?????? I still weigh 194 pounds and I still have an OBESE BMI. Of course I want to lose more weight, and don't worry...... I'll never be too thin!!!!!!!!

I've been getting the same comments lately. I still have about 40 pounds to go. I'm still "obese" for another 7 pounds. I laugh and then squeeze my tummy and say here's another 40 pounds, but thanks!

Being fabulous has its perks, now does' nt it ? I agree with go walking, they're comparing you to your before and dont realize that you have'nt reached a healthy weight yet. Just tell them you and your Dr. have decided on a certain bmi, you'll Celebrate with them when you get there. Congrats on your weight loss so far ! Great job !

Lite'N'Sweet reacted to PrettyThick1 in No Shame in My Game...I Told Everybody About My WLS
Newbies often wonder: "What will I tell...", "What will______think if they knew?" From day 1 there was no hiding my decision to get the band. I was fat, sick and tired...what the hell did I care what somebody else thought about me doing something to make myself healthier? I started with my family and yeah, I got a lot of "you don't need that..." "you could die...." "the complications..." BLAH BLAH BLAH, SHUDDUP ALREADY, I'M LIVING THIS LIFE, NOT YOU! Then I told my friends, coworkers, boss, nail technician, the hoochie cussing our her baby daddy while I'm behind them in Walmart. the bank teller...like I said, AIN'T NO SHAME IN MY GAME! My mindset was that they can accept it and support me or be against it and step off. It didn't matter, I had living to do and nobody else to do it for me BUT ME.
The end result: "Guuuuurrrrrllllll, your body is BANGIN'", "Damn, you look good", "Let me put some rocks in your pocket so you don't blow away", "I won't hug you too tight, I'm scared to break you", "You say your insurance covered that?" "How long was recovery", "What was your out-of-pocket", "Did it hurt", "I want to get it done, too".
See 7 out of the 16 people who were DEAD SET AGAINST the surgery have either gotten WLS or are in the process (4 bands, 2 sleeves, 1 gastric). Three others are trying to convince their loved ones that they should have it done, 4 are now my biggest fans and the other two are still @$$holes who don't want to admit they were wrong about it...I quit fooling with them a long time ago anyway. I just hear how green their FAT FACES get when they hear I'm wearing a size 3/4 and I'm having a clothing "take-away" at my house to which THEY AREN'T INVITED!
Don't be ashamed. You could be the inspiration someone else needs to change their lives for the better as well.

My only wish is that I'd done it sooner! About 5 years ago I inquired but I didn't have insurance and I couldn't come on with the cash so that idea went out the window. But now I feel like the band was probably in the top 3 best decisions I've ever made. I still have more weight to go. I next goal is 199. I haven't been below 200 since 6th grade. Then the goal after that is 175. So it's always an ongoing process. Just don't expect to lose it overnight with no effort and make sure your goals are attainable and measurable in a decent amount of time so you don't get discouraged. Other than that, it'll be great! Just remember to have fun. Stay active. And be happy. And whatever you do, DO NOT weigh yourself everyday lol. Once a week is enough. You got this. I never in life imagined myself in a before and after picture yet here I am... And I have no doubt you'll love yourself even more in that after picture! (:

Hey Hun! Congrats on your date. I will say this... The journey doesn't begin until after surgery. That's when all the hard work start. As for the statistic of 68% failing or being unsuccessful, I'll say this as well. The band only as successful as you want it to be. Myself and a couple of the other girls at work got banded. Of the three of us I've lost the most weight. My surgery date was February 20, 2014. I started it 275. As of today I'm to 10. 65 pounds five months. I eat small meals. Try to eat healthy and smart. And I also work out five days a week. I've seen one of the other girls eat like the band isn't even there. So you can imagine her weight-loss is a lot less significant. The problem that comes into play is, people think the band is a magic weight-loss procedure, when in fact it's only a tool to help you succeed. It's like having a compass or a protractor. It's absolutely useless if you don't use it correctly. When they say it's a lifestyle change, it is definitely a lifestyle change. If you continue to live your life like you've been living it eating the way you've been eating and not being active then the band is going to be useless for you. But if you seriously made a conscious decision that you want to lose the weight, I'm living proof that it can happen. Help your band help you. I'm excited for you. You just have to stay focused. I won't deny, I have a cheap meal every now and then. But I never have an entire cheat day. And I still work out. I lost my first 30 pounds of diet alone. Then I plateaued. Then I started working out. And my weight-loss has been constant ever since. You can do it. Just keep in mind who you're doing it for. And what you're doing it for. When the first person ask you are you losing weight? Hold on to that feeling that you get when you hear that statement. That may also be your motivation to continue. Find your strength. Whoever or whatever that may be. You'll most definitely need it. And whatever you do, do not give up. Success does not come to you, you go to it.

LiteNsweet, I had to do 3 month supervised diet before the insurance company would approve mine but once everything was submitted it only took a week to 10 days. Of course they said to allow them 30 days to review before approval and I think they tell everyone that but unless they are really busy or you are only borderline on the comorbidities it doesn't take them long to do the approval. Hope you will hear something very soon.

ahhh yes. please be patient. it will come. i had to do 12 months of insurance mandated health 'coaching', then, it took them 6 weeks to approve me. I had my consult jan 6 2013 and didnt get banded until may 8th 2014. it may take some time, but it will def be worth it!
