  1. Oh, my goodness! Mine was so loud today at lunch! I was glad I was home alone! I'm not sure, but last time it felt and sounded like this was pre-surgery and I had a stomach bug. Might be why nothing has rested easy in my stomach today.

    Tomatoes and/or Fruit

I'm still waiting for fruit. I'm 7 weeks out and won't be able to have it until March 12th. But that's ok. I've been able to have veggies for the last 2 weeks but by the time I get my protein in, there's no room for the vegetables!
  3. I'm am a little stunned, amazed and in my husband's words giddy! In September 2000, I reached my highest weight of 278 pounds. As of today, I've lost 100 pounds from that day! No too bad for someone who had two different doctors tell her (back then) the best she could hope for was to weigh 220 and that would be next to impossible to reach! Do I have regrets about having gastric bypass surgery? Not a single one!!!
  4. That's what I"m supposed to be eating each meal. I only have to worry about lunch and dinner right now as I still get one eight ounce Protein shake a day. I am not allowed to snack so that leaves getting all the protein in my meals. The problem I'm having is that I can only hold two ounces of meat at a time and I'm limited to chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese. And as of yesterday, I'm supposed to be adding non-starchy veggies to each meal. How am I supposed to eat all that?! Any suggestions or ideas?

I was started on my chewables day two post-op.
  6. I am so glad to hear that it's not just my stomach making all the noise!

    Anyone Use Fitness Pal?

I use it every day. I love that it will sync to the fitbit I was given for Christmas.

    Hospital Stay Needs

I took basic toiletries, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, hair brush (I was allowed to wear my hair in a ponytail during surgery) slippers, chapstick and my cell phone and charger. I also took a small pillow to put between my stomach and the seat belt for the ride home. I used the slippers and the pillow. I wore the same clothes there and back. The rest never was never taken out of the bag.
  9. I had my RNY on December 10, 2014. I had to have 20 staples put in to close my six incisions. Those were no problem. At my two week post-op appointment, the staples were removed and steri-strips put over my incisions. That's when the fun began. I was told that the strips would stay on for 7-10 days. At a week the first one came off leaving open blisters behind. The next day I took the rest off, hoping to avoid the blisters. Instead, I started breaking out in huge whelps and rash, followed by insanely intense itching. After a trip back to the surgeon's office, i was prescribed a cream to use with two OTC anti-itch creams and told to take Zyrtec in the AM and 50 mg Benedryl at bed time. The Benedryl at bed time made me itch worse. I would have quit taking it from the start, but as all the itching was so bad it took most of two weeks to realize that it was making things worse! After stopping the bedtime dose of Benedryl, things started resolving and the whelps and rash started to go away. I'm seven weeks post-op now and today is the first day that I can look at my stomach and NOT see the marks that were left by the whelps!

    Couples doing WLS together?

I was told not to drive until after my second post-op appointment at 2 weeks and not until I was off pain meds.

You face looks like a donut

No, that's not how a loving marriage is. When I met my husband, I weighed less than 100 pounds. Due to a hormonal disorder, I gained up to a high of 278. On a five foot body. Was everything always perfect? No. Sometimes he got angry at the cause of the weight gain and the fact that it seemed there was nothing we could do. He was there for me then and he's been there for me all through this RNY process. And he's my biggest cheerleader post-op. And I'm his. That's what a loving marriage is.

    Life after Surgery

Seven weeks out from RNY and I feel better than in years and am doing everyday things that were very difficult before surgery. No regrets at all!

First Pre Op Appointment, Dr blew me off

I'm sorry to disagree with the majority here, but my surgeon told me that throwing up was not normal and if I started, get in to see him asap.

Why You Lose Hair After Surgery

???? That's why mine is still long! I've been wanting to cut it as I'm in the pool three times a week. I'm holding the hair cut in reserve as no one we know has ever seen me with short hair. I think that it would be such a shock that no one would notice thinning hair!
  15. That sunglasses guy keeps popping up in my posts. That was supposed to say 127-128.
  16. I was given the maximum pounds that would put me in the "normal" weight BMI. (127-128).It falls between the two. Personally, at five feet tall, I'd like to weigh less. But, that's my first goal. I'm seven weeks out from RNY and hit 30% of my excess weight off as of today.

Why You Lose Hair After Surgery

I'm thinking positive. I asked my NP at my appt.. last week about it. She told me that they have very little problems with it. I don't know if it's cuz we're started on supplements so early (day 3 post-op) or if it's that by day 7 we're taking in 60 grams of protein. That being said, I'm still preparing for it to happen but hoping she is right!

    Diabetics

I was taken off my type 2 meds just before surgery. I haven't taken any since. My fasting blood sugar levels are in the low 70s. After meals it runs in the low 80s. I'm 7 weeks out from RNY.
  19. I had my RNY on December 10th 2014, ten days before my 59th birthday.

    Poll: insurance acceptance/denial

I was 248. Aetna makes you have 6 months of weight loss monitored by a doctor who has to ask about your diet and exercise. I was approved within hours of my paperwork arriving.

    Activity tracker

I've been known to go and get back on the treadmill if all my trackers aren't green! Plus I have an on going competition with my sister. Sad thing is.. she doesn't know it! She's had her fitbit almost a year longer than me and I'm out to beat her on total lifetime distance!

    20 grams of Protein

I miss carby foods! I get no starchy carbs until after the six month mark. It gets very hard sometimes fixing dinner for the family!

    How about some NSVs!?!?

Got my 6 week post-op labs back. My triglycerides have always run high. Now they are at 67!

    To hospital or not? Help

Wow! Reading all this makes me SO glad that I had my gallbladder out years ago, thanks to my oldest daughter. Short me and an eight pound plus baby equaled gallstones and surgery (open as laparoscopic wasn't done then) at seven weeks post-partum!

Anaxilla, I've been looking at your diary (I'm RSBM77) and would love to see some of your recipes such as Amy's egg salad and imagination cheesecake!
