Ever have that silly emotional moment?

I just needed to get this off my chest here in the lounge I found my old post-surgery playlist today. (may not be anyone’s taste in music) This song helped me with some weight loss mental battles. I had to process my mother’s death and let go/forgive my larger self. Five years later, I got emotional at the gym while listening to this. For my mother and husband. Thankful for their loving support

    Lowest point before surgery

I wish it didn’t take a major health crisis to wake me up. I went int diabetic ketoacidosis. Eight days in ICU. My heart stop and Dr’s revived me. Nothing like a second chance in life to force you to change.

    A possible solution?

Wow, amazing full list. You are a bariatric bad ass. Update us on the runs when you have time. My mother passed away from cancer in 2013 I had surgery in June 2014. My goal was to do a 5K in her memory. First 5k (turkey trot) in November 2014 . Race for the cure was on Mother’s Day. Emotional to cross the finish line. I went on to do 10, half and full marathons. Still amazed that I’m doing this in my 50’s. I carb load for half and full marathons. My bariatric team had no clue how to fuel with a bariatric stomach. I hired a sports medicine dietician to help me dial things in. I learned many things from the other bari -athletes on this site. I love shalane Flanagan (Olympic runner) book. Eat slow run fast. I am doing race to Robbie creek half marathon. It’s an elevation mountain trail run. Idaho wine run half or full. Beautiful vineyards and wine tasting after party. I’m still deciding on charity runs for 2020.

    A possible solution?

I carb load/ tapper seven days pre-race to build glycogen stores. Race day, I add powdered carbs and electrolytes to my water. My hydration vest has a bite straw that I can take small sips to the end of the race. (I can’t gulp water in the Styrofoam cups at aid stations) What race are you doing in February?

    A possible solution?

@Meryline I’m a sleeve. It has been trial and error to find foods I can tolerate for carb load and race day. I’m always interested in what other runners are eating.

@Meryline Glad you found what helps you recover after a distance run. Have you tried RX bars?

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Just a thought, How many of you can eat more volume years out? Mostly seeing this with sleeves. (Extra space but your stomach is not back to full size) I see people confuse this with stretching. (Stretching is rare. Have it diagnosed by surgeon) I do agree with fluffy about keeping volume as instructed by your team. I know where my new sensation of full is. I don’t go by volume. I eat my weight loss/maintenance calories.

    Protein and Weight Loss (unrelated)

Its frustrating figuring out bariatric stages etc. Keep working with your team, things will get better over time. You are new to the site, take what’s useful and ignore the rest. You can block people if you like.

    Diabetes with the sleeve

This sounds like a medical concern. Can you call your bariatric team for advice?

I also double posted. I felt the need to defend my weight loss. It’s work getting to goal. I was preparing for the 10+ weight bounce, fear of regain, and the scale affected how I feel about myself. I felt great when the scale was at its lowest. I felt like I failed this process with a slight gain. It has taken years to work out some of these things. You are doing great.

What is the right amount of food?

3 weeks and 19 pounds is fantastic. All instructions are different, what does your plan say for puree stage? Are you hitting your protein goal for the day? Do you log your food in an app? My instructions are five years old. I was told to get in 60 to 100 grams of protein. I had to use a combination of protein shakes and pureed food to hit my protein goal. Hunger was more manageable as I progressed to real food stage.

    Will I ever learn?????

Woohoo congrats on the 40-mile ride. Celebrate big once you feel better. Lesson learned. *smile* NUUN tabs are my saving grace for electrolytes/hydration.
  22. It’s only been a week. You are doing fantastic. Let your body heal from surgery. Trust the process and focus on working your plan. Never compare your weight loss with anyone else. It will make you crazy. Some lose slowly and others quickly. All that matters, is the fact you are losing weight, not the speed.
  23. Healthy_life2

    friends?

Emma this is going to be a strange ride. Keep supportive people around you and decide what relationships need to be distanced or cut off. Weight loss may end up being a topic for a while in your social circles. The good news, once your weight loss settles and the shock of your loss is over. Life becomes normal. people just except this as you.

I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

Sorry you are struggling. Many of us had buyer’s remorse right after surgery. This is a big adjustment. Your new stomach is healing. At first, it’s hard to get your protein and water in. It gets easier over time. Hunger is real in the first stages. I was angry about seeing food commercials and anyone eating real food around me. Hunger is more manageable as you progress to real food. Congratulations on your surgery.
  25. I’m glad we have the revision forum. Is it addressing some of the things you listed?
