  1. I agree somewhat.

I think its great that some people are making such great strides in their lifestyle by adding exercise and eating right. Kudos to you - not everyone is the same which is what makes this world wonderful.

I think that if someone is on here whining and crying because they aren't losing weight but they are scarfing down Cookies and ice cream then figure it out!!! Don't be a victim.

  2. My facilitator has said the same - she said its a 1-2 year process. I had my surgery on June 30. I was 209 and at 5'3" my BMI was relatively low compared to a lot of people so for me, I would have expected that I would lose weight much slower. At just 7 weeks post op I am down 46.6 lbs. I have 33 lbs to go to reach my goal weight. I've lost 58% of my weight so far. I have started to lose slower but its coming off and I'm happy. My goal date is December 17. That is 4 months away with 38 lbs to go. I'm hopeful! ;))

  3. Yes, I am 6 weeks out and regret it every day. Thinking I should have tried harder with Atkins since that's what life basically is now. I don't like the stalls, it almost kills me to go 12 days without losing a single pound all while trying to drink 64 oz. of Fluid a day that I just about never get in. I'm lucky if I can get 350 calories in a day.

I don't enjoy eating anything it's a chore to do so. I eat by a timer, hell, I live by a timer these days. I have to take a cooler with me when I even run errands because there is something goofy going on that throws my entire body off whack. I'm always tired.

While I have lost 36.5 pounds since surgery, and am grateful for that, I have yet to have a single happy day. My stomach hurts with just about every meal I eat. I can slowly sip on bouillon and as long as it's only 4 oz. I can do okay. I can eat about 1 tablespoon of food at a sitting without severe chest through my back pain. About 30 of the 36.5 pounds came off in a week. Then there were 12 days with nothing ... not one pound lost. After that I've been losing maybe 1/4 or 1/2 of a pound a day when I have a loss. I think I might have made the wrong decision ... maybe I should have had RNY instead. My brother and friends all went that route, but I didn't want my insides all rerouted.

Think long and hard before you make this decision. It's not reversible and it's forever.

Hi, it will get better! Keep on doing what you are doing! ;))

  4. This is gross to say bit you are going to have diarrhea a lot. I read one member comment that said "never trust a fart". You might be able to tolerate milk again later. All of your nutrition is coming from liquids right now. They are going to run right through you. I looked at it like a cleansing process. My wife made home-made Soups and stews and added extra broth to them and didn't let them reduce down very much so I could drink the liquid. It tasted very good. I am 5 months post-op and can eat just about everything that I wish. I tried ice cream the other day and was on the toilet for the rest of the night so no more ice cream for me. I ate Jello and popsicles and otter pops and Ice tea and Kool-aid with splenda for sweetener when I was at your stage. Don't worry about the gym yet. You need to heal. Just relax and don't worry about the scale either. Walk as much as you can and rest as much as you can. Always sip Water. Good luck to you. Keep posting.

I've had a similar experience. Wondered if I am now lactose intolerant. I also broke out in bad hives all over - had them for 3 weeks as soon as I started my Protein shakes. I stopped the shakes and just thought today I'd try again and WHAM - cramps and on the toilet. Ugh. I can tolerate milk though and eggs so I'm unsure what's happening.

    Good Advice! ;)

  5. Hi, I can understand how you feel. It can be frustrating. The head hunger is very hard. It does get better though. I was sleeved June 30 - 5 weeks ago and it gets better every single week! Just remember as you go through each stage its like learning all over again, you master one stage and then you have to relearn a new stage so be patient with your sleeve. ;)

  6. Hi,

I am having the same problem. I had Brest surgery on Oct 19th 2011. 2 weeks later, I start breaking out in hives all over my body. From my head to my private part. It is driving me crazy. I have went to the emergency room because of this. While in the emergency room they have given prednisone and Benadryl. The Benadryl stop the itching but I keep breaking out in hives. Whelps all over my body. My back was red and it look like someone just beat me across my back. Whelps all over my hand, shoulders chest, feet and face. Every time I take a shower, it comes on hard. I just want to fall out from itching. I am a black women and after a shower my body is red from the hives. When I was released, from the emergency, they had given me a prescription for prednisone and told me to take Claritin. I am going seek help from a dermatology. This is driving me crazy.

    Please anyone, any suggestions?

I had the same thing. At first I thought it was because I started premier Protein from costco and maybe I was allergic to milk Protein. BUT, I had been having milk before and was fine. It's 3 weeks now, I was given prednisone and benadryl/claritin and it seemed to help but the meds were making my tummy feel awful. I stopped everything after the prednisone. I seem to be getting better slowly on my own but going to my family doctor tonight to talk to him about it.

I've never had food allergies - EVER - so I am stumped.

  7. I just got my pre-op diet outline from the nutritionist at Obesity Control Center (Dr. Ariel Ortiz) and it seems unfun. It's basically just three Protein shakes per day, sugar free Jello, sugar free popcicles, and leafy green salads with calorie-free dressing. I asked for specifics about the Protein Shakes and she said I should look for Protein powder that is around 150 cals per scoop. I should mix that with a half cup of unsweetened almond milk and a half cup of Water. That means the total caloric content for the shakes would be 165. Multiply that by three and it comes out to 495. That means she wants me only eating 500 calories a day! It seems insane and impossible. I have an outstanding question about whether I should stop working out while eating so few calories, but haven't heard back yet. I'll let you know what she says. If I'm only eating 500 calories per day and burning ~350 from exercise, that's only a net of 150 calories. It basically seems like doctor-sanctioned anorexia.

I would say that "Unfun" is a good way to describe it. It's tough for sure, you an do it. I'm 4 weeks out from surgery and down 41 lbs. Just stay focused. If you feel your energy is low just take care of yourself. I was also without protein for 2 weeks after surgery and i couldn't even walk around the block without being exhausted. It gets better day by day.

  8. I would do it again. I do mourn foods, not so much what KINDS of foods I can eat because I CAN eat anything I want. Mostly HOW MUCH OF IT I used to eat and still want to eat is what I mourn. My rule, pretty much, is 'I only need a taste'. And if I am honest with myself, after a bite or two I am done with whatever that was and there is no real impact on my weight.

I also mourn food. The ability to just rip into something awesome and enjoy every bite - gone! But ... I'm happy to be down 40 lbs and still losing! It will get better every day!
