Buffer got a reaction from sillykitty in PAIN! WTF!?
Please take a deep breath. I am almost 4 years out and my hair fell out the same way. It is your body going into shock. Mine came back when my weightloss slowed and plateaued. Then there was a horrible regrowth. Little hairs kind of curly in my straight hair first sticking out the top of my head. Then took about a year for my hair not to have fuzzy regrowth, but believe me......It will come back. Trust it. It is part of the deal. If you can make it through the choice to have surgery, do what it took to get it done and wait through the part that takes patience, you can make it through anything!!!

@@Buffer, I have no words of wisdom, just know you're not alone in this struggle. Since my last post, I've gained a few more pounds, up 11# and two dress sizes.
I have been working out 3 days a week. Trying to increase it to 4 or 5 days but it's very hard. I 've been experiencing pain in one if my feet, so it's difficult to workout more then 3 days. However, I'm working w/a podiatrist to get it resolved.
All we can do is keep trying. Never give up.

Like many of you, I struggled with weight regain. This past summer I went to do my post surgical follow up with my bariatrician (medical doctor in the same practice as my surgeon) who helped me come up with a better diet that helped with the increased hunger and regain. Despite the extra efforts with added dieting (and more exercise) I still couldn't get below 175. In the end, the bariatrician thought it may be some added insulin resistance I might have from my PCOS. He placed me on Victoza and my obstetrician placed me on metformin (though I'm not diabetic) to see if they would help kick start my weight loss again. To my surprise the combination of the two have helped me shed additional weight and have also helped me continue to lose. I'm down to 159 lbs -- and thankfully, still losing with the aid of the medications, continued good eating, and regular exercise.
Everyone's health situation is different, and I am by no means advocating drugs for weight loss, but I do think that follow up with a bariatrician has been a huge benefit for me personally. I think I probably would've continued to struggle had the doctor not tried to work the problem from a different angle with me. Anyway, don't lose faith after a little regain! Your goals are still possible! Having a good bariatrician helps!

    Melissa,
I am in the same situtation. I had my surgery October 8, 2014 and I am really struggling. I never reached my goal weight although I was close. I was content for a year at the same exact weight then out of no where I have gained 15 pounds. I don't think I am doing anything different.
I got to travel this winter and was miserable because I couldn't enjoy the food as if it were pre-surgery. I was so disappointed to be able to have this opportunity and I can still only have a taste of things. The thought that I have to stay on a low calorie life to maintain is beyond me. Why? Why would not Portion Control be enough.
Now that I have done my whining, I have started the pre-surgery diet for two weeks. shakes, applesauce and Soup. If that doesn't get rid of the 15 pounds I don't know what else to do. I was walking 3 miles a day but the weather has prevented that in the last couple of months. Maybe that is all it is.
I will fight on, because I made this choice and it will not be for nothing.

I have heard from my relatives that have had the surgery that if you brush the area with a stiff bath brush as you are loosing weight, the skin does change back to it's regular color. They also say that brushing your skin in the shower helps with the lose skin...it stimulates cell turnover apparently.

    Great idea Beni!
October 8th for me with my sleeve.
A little bit of pain in the beginning but 3 days out much better. Still not getting all my Water or Protein down but feeling better about it everyday.
I had my first BM 7 days out. Now that was like giving birth to my fourth baby without an epidural. It was a 40 minute experience . No one was home at the time I even sent my hubby a text that if he finds me pasted out on the bathroom floor to wipe me down an put on my pretty panties before he called 911. Lol!!!
Waking up this morning felling good and still gassy. Walking a mile on the treadmill every morning . Not fast but getting there.
Down 13 pounds after first week.
    Thank you for everyone's support.????

Thanks all! I met with the PA and evidently what I am feeling is due to eating and drinking too fast and too much. I was pushing the Protein Drinks trying to get my numbers up and it was making my sleeve unhappy. So I am slowing way down. They said I may also be lactose intolerant. That happens sometimes to sleeve patients. So almond milk for me. Thanks for your prayers and encouragement!

    Sleeve 10/14
    Starting weight: 256
    Surgery weight: 224
    Current weight: 202
I went thru a stall about 3 weeks out, but now have been steadily losing in the last two weeks. Hope to hit onederland this week!
I have been doing good on Water, I just have to remind myself not to get behind because I can't catch up. When I get thirsty it is too late!
Exercise has been a struggle. I had a knee replacement on 9/22 and was just starting to get the physical therapy really going when I had my sleeve. A few days after my sleeve I started showing signs of infection and started antibiotics. Sadly, last week my incision was still not healing well and reddish, so back to the OR I went. They opened the incision to find staph. So now I'm on two different oral antibiotics (which reck havoc on my belly), and hoping that I will finally heal and put this behind me. Trying to make sure I have plenty of Protein on board for healing!
My struggles are how awkward it is socially to sit at the table and not eat much, or to eat so slowly (see new thread). I am doing really well with softs, meats are still hard for me. I can't believe how little it takes to be full. My biggest accomplishment this week was learning to not overeat and get the slimes.
So craving carbs...my fav was spaghetti on toast...oh my.
Excited to buy a new outfit for the Thanksgiving festivities--nothing is fitting anymore!

@@Buffer is your Vitamin regimen only a multi Vitamin or is it also a Calcium and a sublingual B12?
Early out, for me, my surgeon told me the most important thing would be hydration. I had issues drinking shakes post op because they would quickly fill me up and I could never finish. That in turn impacted my Water intake. Vicious cycle. I can sympathize with you. The game changed for me was finding a Protein powder with no gum additives. Manufacturers add cellulose, guar or xanthan gum to "thicken" shakes. For me the increased viscosity made them "heavy" and difficult to finish. If your Protein contains these it could be making you feel too full and making them less desire-able for you.
A three week stall is not uncommon, stick to your program that your team has outlined for you and you should start seeing results again soon. Your body could still be reacting to the surgery and drop in daily caloric intake that it may be trying to preserve itself before allowing itself to lose more.
Also, check with your team about your Fluid intake. Personally I would focus on hydration. A common reason why bariatric patients end up in the ER is dehydration. Again, check with your team before considering any changes to their plan for you, they know best.

@@Buffer I can imagine how pissed off you feel about " no weight loss" I was told that once you. An get both your Water & Protein in the weight lost will catch up. Last week I could barely get a 1/2 bottle of my Protein shake in and 20 ounces of Water but I noticed I lost inches. Yesterday I got 48 oz's of water & 2 shakes in. And I got into a smaller size pant an 18 today.
It's gonna happen & for you the loss will probably be BIG. Hang in there!

all of the women on my mom side are obese and one of my aunts, whom is about 340lbs herself, kept saying "why don't you just push away from the table." And I responded "did that work for you?" On the other hand my dads wife and my siblings were very supportive.

I had a friend who that also happened to, then it started dropping again after that. It could still be Fluid retention. If you're weighing every day, you're going to see that. Don't worry about it!! It'll be gone in another day or 2 I'm sure!!

I had a few of those headaches too! Exact feeling, like someone was wrapping a tight band around it and squeezing. For me, drinking more Water helped a bit to keep them at bay. My plan only requires 30g of protein and 1000 calories. But I couldn't manage with only 30grams, so I get a lot more than that. usually around 85 and I'm rarely hungry. I actually have had a hard time getting in all 1000 calories. Imagine that! Little different than "before liquid diet!"
