Flying 4 weeks after surgery
CTJohn replied to Jellybean67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ask doc. I don't think first fill matters with regard to flying. I hardly felt mine. Really depends -
Obesity! Will that word follow me to the grave :(
CTJohn replied to RJ'S/beginning's topic in Rants & Raves
The reference to obesity may impact what your insurance continues to cover as well. My follow up appointments have all been covered, I believe based on how the office codes them I think medically its part of our history. But not in how,we behave or think -
You're not doing anything wrong, most likely. For me, the band didn't kick in until month four. I was complaining to Dr that felt that I was just on a diet. He said, just be patient. He was right Hang in there. It's slow in the beginning. Your band doesn't have much juice yet

Checkup with Primary Physician
CTJohn replied to Sharpie's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Great job! I went from A1C of 10.1 to 6.1. No longer diabetic! No more BP meds either. Stayed on Lipitor at my request, probably off in September. (Family history... But levels all great). Love my band! -
I did back in November. Doc said I'd 'feel' that fill. Lost ten pounds Thursday until Tuesday! Same, couldn't keep liquids down. Slight u fill and back in my way. And, I didn't regain that ten pounds! Ice chips and sugar free Popsicles until Saturday!

For me,very easy. They weigh you, check vitals. Doc or PA comes in and discusses your progress. Then fill. Whole visit for me is ten minutes. Pleasant and you feel nothing!!

2nd fill "no able to add any fluid to band"
CTJohn replied to angelf13's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Never had a fill with anesthesia. Pain free and never a problem -
I started 4x Easter was 2X and now 1X Next will be XL Did you skip a size? Best thing -- buying in regular stores and outlets. Way cheaper plus larger selection.
-
I smoked up to about a week before surgery and a week afterwards, My surgeon is a cigar smoker so can relate.
-
Since Easter, down from 2xl shirt to 1xl! Think I'm in green. Eat very little. But satisfied. Can drink fluids fine, so don't think too tight. Besides, it'll loosen with more weight loss. Keeping dr visits monthly ( well, skipping this month due to travel). He says I'm doing fine. Good enough for me. Best part, every day some comments on my loss. For me, took good 4-5 months to really start losing. Wish I knew that in advance, but doc was always great and encouraging.

I didn't really have breakfast before, maybe a yogurt or brunch on weekends (loved eggs Benedict!!!). Now, not hungry until mid afternoon. Probably not forever, but it's working. Today I hit 100 lbs lost since surgery 04/26/14!

So this is bandster hell?...
CTJohn replied to tootyoyo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yo was getting fills monthly. At like my fourth, I told the Dr what the heck.? Felt like I was just an a diet. He said wait, hasn't kicked in yet. Well, it did! Be patient! -
I'm an RN, can I do the fills myself?
CTJohn replied to Miss Sue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Goodness. I wouldn't think so. My doc has a band nd he doesn't do it himself. Can't remember my first fills... But I think I got 1cc. Few times. In November I got .5 and had to get a little taken out. Since then, .25. I think I'm about there. -
Give it time. It took several months (and fills) for it to kick in for me. You may not have any Fluid in your band yet. Some don't. Two days ago was a year. I'm down 97 (really want 3 more!!). Be patient and good luck! You're starting your new life!

2 1/2 Months Post Op and Hunger is knocking at my door?
CTJohn replied to JoJoNYC's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
While you're doing your research, check out NYU Dr Fielding and staff is great! 11 months and I'm down 96! -
I have reflux during the night sometimes I don't eat least 5 hours before going to bed. Asked PA last visit, and he suggested stop drinking any fluids an hour or two before bed. That seems to have worked for me.

300 pounds later....am I living a dream or is this in fact reality?
CTJohn replied to Jim1967's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Very inspiting, Jim! I'm so glad you posted! Didt it require/have any skin removed? Or, any tips to tone up with excerise? I'm approachimg 100, and am thinking that might be on the horizon -
Need recommendations for chewable vitamins!
CTJohn replied to losing_the_band's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I started with some from GNC. They were horrible I take three daily of CVS men's gummy chewable. My doc approves. Sometimes, they are my only treat of the day! -
So the last eleven months (really much longer) have been an incredible journey. I had lap band surgery 4/26/14. Has it been easy? Depends. I'd say on the whole, yes. I wouldn't be were I am had I not been banded. I did it for my health. I remember the day after the surgery telling my family I probably added 15 years to my life. There have been some fun victories. No seat belt extender on plane! Fit in booth! Lost 11" from waist! But today it happened. Went to endocrinologist for follow up. I'm no longer diabetic! Six months before surgery, my A1c was 10.1. Today, was 6.1. (Ok.... While not diabetic, I'm officially re diabetic until it comes down a bit more, but I'll take it!). It was a steady decline between surgery and today I'm off diabetes medications (I was never on insulin). And, as off today I'm also off blood pressure meds. I'm psyched. And, trust me. If I can do it anyone can!

Good luck - you're well on your way! Tuesday is the first day of the rest of your life!

I take some oral medications. 8 months before lapband, my A1c was 10.1. Month before, it was 9. Month after, it was 8. Three months after, it was 7. That was last September Had labs done today, see endo on Monday. I have a feeling I'm no longer diabetic! It works!
