I had surgery almost 10 months ago, October 14, 2014. I hit my goal weight this weekend August 1,2015 (darn ticker won't update)
As far as exercise, I have always just walked. Once I could walk more I did. then after I was much closer to goal I started running. I put most my focus on diet and the weight just came off. Protein first ALWAYS, and keep up on hydration. Once the eating and hydration is good, bump up the exercise but don't go too crazy, you will have plenty of time for that

I was told shrimp first, then fish (choose a light moist fish). Then ground turkey, or other lean meats. Any sausage is going to have a higher fat content and probably not sit well. I was told to wait until 6 months to try chicken. I don't eat much meat so I tried chicken 3 or 4 months out and was okay, but I know I could have been a horrible experience.
No matter your choice make sure its moist, lean and you chew it WELL.
Good luck! also if it does not sit well you can always try again in a few weeks.

This is from yesterday morning, it's a post I shared on the FB page that I admin, this was before my odd day at the Water park LOL

I did it! I did it! I did it!!!
I have been stuck at 138.4 for 20 days....I really wasn't too upset because that was already past surgeons goal of 140 but I was wanting to at least ONCE see my goal on the scale of 137.
Yesterday I finally lost half a pound after 20 days and was 137.9 I was all kinds of happy with that!!!
    THEN.....
This morning I woke up to 135.7!!! I moved the scale all over the bathroom to make sure it was flat and every time it was the same!! ???????????????????????? yay ????????????????????????????????
Yesterday I truthfully rested and then slept more than I have slept in months last night. Maybe my body just needed a break ????????

I cannot wait for the day that I stop wandering into the woman's section. It is a complete waste of time. I am a size 10 and nothing in there fits. Accepting who I am is extremely hard. I still see myself the same way but when I look in the mirror I see someone else.
For example, I was at a National Park the other day and it was a very hot sunny day. This park ranger was talking to some park visitors. There was a chair under this shade canopy and I stopped and sat to tie my shoe laces. He looked at me at some point and I said. I'm sorry, I took over your chair. His answer still stops me on my tracks "Please do, you are so beautiful you are allowed to sit anywhere." This is the first complement I have received from a guy in over 20 years. I must say, I did look extra nice that day. I was wearing a new outfit and had done my hair and make up nicely. For me it was a 10 day. It felt so nice not to be ignored. I am sure a year ago his answer would have been "it's okay." After the people he was talking to left, guess who came over and talked to me for a long while, I was a little taken aback because no one comes to talk to me, not like that ever. Wow! He was charming and it was not weird but I was not sure what to do. Fortunately, my family came back and I could say bye in a graceful way.

Happy Birthday Beni! I'm glad you were able to eat your favorite food and not get sick! And what a flirt you got!! That's awesome. It does feel nice to be acknowledged. That didn't happen when we were heavier. People looked right through you, or worse, looked at you with a bad look on their face. But not anymore! Those are part of the rewards. Like being able to tighten a seat belt on a plane and crossing our legs when we sit and tying shoes without sitting down and not having to lean against something while putting on underpants so you don't fall! I am a size 10 also and bought my first pair of skinny jeans! I love them with a flowy top. So cute!
Congratulate yourself on not only having a birthday and looking great, but on adding probably 10 more great looking birthdays to your life! We are finally healthy and not at risk anymore for so many diseases and health related problems!

Good to hear from you. I ate a bowl of Kellog's Protein Cereal with milk the other day. I was thinking the Protein would make it "good for me" but hello, it has too much sugar. The combination of milk and cereal which amounts to eating and drinking at the same time - a big no, no made it a horrible experience. I actually had a tummy ache that felt like it went all the way down my GI track. My bad. No more cereal and milk for me. I do love Greek yogurt with berries and not once have I felt sick eating that. My biggest worry is that I will have more then one per day. I have to watch out or I'll live on that.
I too eat for comfort and a late snack was a danger zone for me. I have a cup of herbal tea with a little milk, half a teaspoon of honey and a packet of Stevia every evening. It tastes sweet to me and it is very comforting.
One pound from goal is absolutely amazing, well done!

I have been struggling with my night time snacking really bad! That was a bad habit I had before surgery and I know what I ate and quantity was a big reason for my weight. I have tried really hard this week to not eat after dinner.....
Because I let this habit back in my life I now have to struggle to get it OUT, it is so hard, I seriously have an argument with my self in my head "DAMN IT YOUR NOT FUCKING HUNGRY" "BUT Cereal IS SO GOOD"......
sigh I look completely different, but it is the same woman I am arguing with......
I don't know if I am self sabotaging because I am 1 pound from goal or what....

I can't just talk the talk..I have to walk the walk. Between a new relationship and my trip to London, I've put back a few pounds. I'm not going to go crazy thinking about the weight I've gained or worry to death about taking them off...I have the tool and frame of mind to do so. But in order to be accountable, I revised my ticker to show my current weight and not my lowest weight.
I wonder if Alex can provide a means of being able to show the fluctuations we in maintenance go through. I think it's important to see not just those who regain all or much of it back, but those who gain and lose throughout.
I remind myself that even naturally thin folk don't maintain the same weight all the time. I'm pretty sure that if they see a gain of a few pounds, they don't panic..they just do what needs to be done to shed those pounds and go about their business. I for one am trying to do just that. I expect to revise my ticker as those extra pounds come off.

I'm 15 yrs out from my RNY and experienced the same. I have simply made myself accountable! Back to the plan given to me by the surgeon and tracking my food with my fitness pal or sparkpeople. Back to being honest with what goes in and getting emotional support when I want to eat my feelings! Lol Also, adding in more Protein has helped a lot, using shakes again to boost Protein levels and then getting out and being more active! I have always been a lazy girl, so getting myself moving has made a big difference! I don't eat any sugar or refined carbs at all! Surgeon told me that that was my lifetime commitment to myself! If nothing changes, well, same results! I love using the forums for support and love to follow theworldaccordingtoeggface.com blog by fellow gb companion Michelle Vicari! She has great creativity, recipes and is just fun to follow! Hope this helps a bit! Good luck on your journey and keep in touch! Support makes all the difference!️

    0. Type of Surgery? RNY
    1. How long have you been in maintenance mode? 20 months

    2. What's your current height and weight? 5' 7", 150 lbs

    3. How many calories do you eat daily (on average) to maintain your weight? around 1500

    4. What kind of focus do you put on Protein -- number of grams or anything else you want to say? around 65 grams of Protein per day derived from meals.

    5. What kind of focus do you put on carbs - number of grams or anything else you want to say? I avoid like a plague processed sugar (including sugars with calories, such as honey. The exception being sugars found in fruits and milk.) Instead I use artificial sweeteners (Splenda), artificial sweeteners (Stevia and sugar alcohol) and the sugars found in fruits and milk. I try and limit my complex carbs (bread, Pasta etc.) to about one meal a day.

    6. What other nutritional tips / tricks are working for you that help you maintain? I rely on fats to avoid hunger. As a result I eat real butter, whole milk and cream, meat other than lean meat. [in the weight loss phase my stomach was cut away and fats caused immediate dumping but after the first year my intestines took up the function of processing fats and I was able to incorporate it into my diet again.]

    7. Which foods, if any, do you avoid altogether? Milk shakes, ice cream, any foods with more than 5 grams of processed sugar per serving.

    8. What exercise regimen (exercise types and frequency) do you follow? I rely on normal physical activity (manual labor). For example last year I moved 100,000 pounds of gravel by hand and 50,000 pounds of concrete landscaping blocks.

    9. What role, if any, has counseling or therapy played in your WLS success? None

    10. What advice would you offer WLS patients to help them be successful? The approach to succeed in the weight loss phase is different than the maintenance phase. They need to adapt to the transition or if they follow the same rules, they may begin to put the weight back on.

    Hi everyone,
Looks like we have all been busy like bees. I have thought of you all and often wonder how you are all doing. For the rest of my life I am sure I will cherish having you all as my WLS pals.
This has been a good week. 100lbs lost milestone. What a dream! I can hardly believe I could lose that kind of weight. A total miracle. I have more energy then I did 10 years ago and feel awesome.
    Love,

I feel the same way. Maintenance is hard. I have reach goal now at 9 months. I am still losing. But, I have a fear that I will gain the weight back. I started Jillian's 30day shred. To help with toning. I find that I mentally need those rewards that I was getting when I was losing weight. I am so excited that I am in a size 6, but I still feel I have a lot to still do. It is a everyday mental challenge to help me to realize I can breathe a little now and find different things to focus on.
