  6. I haven't encouraged anyone to have wls since my surgery, but my success so far has helped my mom and for that I am loving it!! She is not obese but does carry extra weight which is not good for her knees. She has had one knee replacement and will most likely have to have the other one done sometime in the near future. She has been losing weight and KEEPING it off week to week which is fantastic for her. Usually it is down two up one, down 1 up two, you get the idea. I have some friends who go to the gym with me and as much as they motivate me I know I in turn am helping them. Never thought I could be motivational in the weight loss department!!

    4 months out

@@Luvin_Life125 Great ideas and advice!!! I love this site!! I am also going to be 18wks post op tomorrow and I agree with tracking. I log EVERYTHING to make sure I am getting the right amount of Protein and liquids daily. I have used myfitnesspal in the past and loved it, but I use a paper journal now. As far as your times go that you are eating, don't worry so much about it, as long as you are getting in what you need and not eating junk you should be good. If you think about it, there are people who work second or third shifts and they have to eat at odd times too. Just be mindful of what you are putting in your body. Plannng and loggin is really the key I think. Good luck with everything.

    Hair loss?

I was waiting for it to happen to me, so when I hit 3 months post op I paid very close attention, no hair loss. YEAH!! But......now that I will be 18wks post op tomorrow the last two weeks I have noticed hair loss. Very little, and really only once I comb thru my wet hair there is always some when I run my hands down my hair that comes out. It is not noticeable at all, but when I put my hair up in a ponytail (I have shoulder length hair) I can feel that my ponytail feels thinner. I have been getting in my Protein and then some since day one and take all my Vitamins. If it stays like this for awhile I will be ok with it, so we will see.

My cholesterol has jumped up by 30 points!

This is interesting I have my blood draw this coming Friday to test for EVERYTHING (LOL) and now I am more curious than ever to see what all my numbers are. I will be 18wks out tomorrow. Hmmmmm????
  10. I started the process at 45, turned 46 in May, had my surgery Ocotober 27th 2014, and will be 6 months out by my 47th birthday on May 5th. I originally went to a seminar about 5 years ago, REALLY REALLY wish I had followed thru back then. But better later than never!! Good Luck on your journey!!
  11. I was 17 wks post op yesterday. Today I get on the scale (I weigh daily and track my weight in my journal) and the scale reads 239!!!!! Not only did I move into the 230's I have lost 75lbs!!!! I literally jumped off the scale and did a happy naked dance!! LOL I'm sure it wasn't pretty but I did it!!! We have our trip to Disney coming up on March 13th and I am so excited to go!! It is going to be so nice for me to make the decisions what rides to go on, not just what rides will I fit on!!! For anyone starting this journey or struggling, please be patient and keep working your program. A wise woman one told me just "Trust the Process!!"
  12. I had those same feelings almost five years ago when I walked out of a seminar thinking this is not for me!! Well now I am 4 months post op and doing great. The only regret I have now is that I didn't stay at that seminar and start my new life then. I had to do a 6 month doc supervised diet before approval and it was the best thing for me. I needed that time to wrap my head around what was going to happen and how I would handle it. I truly believe if I didn't have that time I would not be doing as well as I am. Do I still think some days maybe I could have done this on my own, yea, but now I know for long term keep this weight off success I NEEDED this tool. Like others have said, YOU have to decide what to put into your body and how and when to exercise, you have to do the hard work. You stomach can't do all that for you. Make sure you have your head wrapped around all the changes and hard work you will have to do and you will be able to succeed in your journey!! Good Luck!!

    Just curious...

I am 4 months post op and have thrown up once. I was rushing to finish my Protein tea one morning and took one last giant swig of it and then went directly to the bathroom to brush my teeth. Oh man what a mistake. I think the toothpaste taste and the taking of a to big drink did not go to well together. It was just a little bit, but still I have always hated throwing up. I still measure and weigh my food and do NOT overeat. I am hoping I do not have another issue like this ever!!

    SUGGESTIONS ON EATING OUT!

I am 4 months post op and in the earlier months I was so nervous about eating out. I was trying so hard to do everything correct. But as time went on I found that pretty much anywhere we go I always find something to order. We either share or I bring stuff home for another meal. We went out for my friends birthday the other day and when I got home I realized what a good time I had. I focused more on the company than the food, it was actually pretty cool. I never feel weird cause of how I have to eat and it doesn't bother me with what other people are eating. This is just my new normal and I am loving it!!

Feel like I can eat A LOT!

I felt the same way in the beginning. At about day 5-6 post op I was able to get in my liquids and most of my Protein shakes. As time went on and I progressed thru the stages I found that I didn't have any issues with anything I ate. I measured and weighed everything but I was able to consume easily. I was worried too. I would read on here people struggling to get in 1oz and was able to do 3-4oz. Well I stopped worrying and thanked my lucky stars that I was able to do that. I still at 4 months post op weigh and measure my food. Some foods I can eat more of (but I don't cause I weigh it out) and some I can't. I have learned where my fullness is and I stop. Every once in awhile I forget and I drink to fast, I don't have to sip anymore but I cannot gulp or chug either. I just feel like this is my new "normal" and I am just living my life. I bet you are fine and have not stretched anything out. But it is always good to check with your doc. If nothing is wrong be happy you can consume what you can and work that tool for all it is worth!!

Ive realized a few things after surgery

it really is a good idea to follow your docs orders. I was so worried about being in pain or getting sick I followed his orders completely!! Even after my second check up and he wanted me to stay on two shakes a day and one Protein filled meal I did. I have to admit I did leave the office a little upset thinking I could do one shake and two meals but after taking a deep breath I knew he was right and that is what I continued to do. I really think doing the two shakes a day and one meal (with no snacking) really helped me continue to lose and not have any stalls. (knock on wood!!) I had decided that I was going to use this tool I was given for all it was worth during these months where the weight comes off faster. I am 4 months out now and just logged in another 1.5lb loss. I was looking thru the my journal and I have not had any gains since my surgery. I have had periods where I would go 3-5 days with no loss then drop 1-2lbs and I am good with that. I do weigh everyday still (that is what my surgeon asked me to do in the very beginning so I have just kept it up and the journal is great to look back on) I now do Snacks, and eat a little bit more on my gym days, and I have a bite of this or that here and there. But I am still logging, tracking and measuring my food. I figure if it is working for me and I am happy and don't feel deprived or that I am missing out on anything I am doing ok!! Good luck with your continued journey!!!

Do family/friends honor your bariatric dietary needs?

I feel too that it is a knowledge thing when comes to how people understand how to eat after bariatric surgery. My immediate family and close friends are great. My husband and daughter are so supportive and when we go out to eat always make sure if I need to order what I want and they will share or if I'm okay getting my own meal and taking home leftovers. I love that! I find that some people mean well but again do not understand how I have to or want to eat now, and that is okay with me. The people that I am around all the time get it and if they don't they ask and then they do. My friends and family really want me to succeed. My best friend has celiac disease and I have noticed thru the years that people just don't get it sometimes either. I think because outwardly you look fine they don't think anything is actual wrong with her.
  19. I also weigh daily and write it down to track it. This is something I started after my first check in with my surgeon at 2 1/2 weeks post op because he asked me to. I usually only used to weigh in once a week in the past. At my last docs appt I asked if I should continue with the daily weigh ins and the doc said sure as long as I didn't let it rule me. I like knowing where I am everyday and so far (I will be 4 months post op tomorrow) I have not had a gain yet. KNOCK ON WOOD!!! I also take my measurements and pictures every month.

    Share your Costco staples!

@SeahawksFan Don't ever hesitate buying something from costco. They are GREAT about returns. If you purchase something and you don't like it you can return it, no questions asked. That's one thing we love. I hesitate sometimes buying in such large quantities since there are only three of us in my household, and now really only 2 1/2 (LoL).

    Chewable vitamins

I started with swallowing my Vitamins at 2 weeks when my surgeon had me start them. I never did chewable either.
  22. I will be 4 months out this Monday, February 16th. I'm not sure how to describe this but I will try........ I was talking with my friend at work and when she asked me how I was doing I said GREAT, I feel like I am back to normal. After I said that I was thinking about it, what is normal?? Well normal for me anyway is feeling like a regular person, I don't feel like someone who had weight loss surgery. I know I had the weight loss surgery because of the restrictions in my new tummy but I feel different than I did a couple months ago. I am still tracking everything, my food, my liquids, Proteins, sugars etc. But I guess what I am not doing is obsessing or worrying about what I am eating. I am just living my life and it feels great!!!! I just feel like this is my new "normal" I go to the gym a few times a week, I eat properly (most times), I am drinking all or more of my liquids everyday, and I am not on the sidelines looking at my life pass me by, I am an active participant in my life again. This is how I couldn't wait to feel and I am so happy!! I am looking forward to the rest of my life!!
