What made you decide to have VSG?

I've been obese my whole life, I've tried every diet imaginable, I've lost then gained. I'm sure you all know the story. I thought about surgery a couple years ago and I chickened out. My turning point this time is I'm approaching 40, I'm feeling aches and pains particularly in my hips. One day I was surfing TMZ and saw a picture of the lead singer of Color Me Bad (for those who dont know who they are they were a one hit wonder from the 90's, they sang I wanna sex you up) anyhow the lead singer used to be so thin and attractive and now he's so huge he needs a walker to get around. I decided I'd rather deal with weight loss surgery now than a hip replacement in a few years because I'm too fat. So here I am surgery is on st Patrick's day

Unexpected NSV - I'll take it!

You're absolutely gorgeous. Your hubby is a lucky guy. I think we all need to feel desired, it's great for the self esteem.

How important is your goal weight for you?

I'm 5`5 currently weigh 250, my doctor's goal for me is 175. I'd be happy at 150, but I'd like to get down to 140 so I have wiggle room if I start to gain again. 150 will be my danger zone. I'll be happy if I reach my doctor's goal but I really hope to reach my personal goal because that would be such a great accomplishment for me, it's a gift I want to give myself after abusing my body for so long.

    People watching.

Yes I find myself thinking that. Especially when they are having a difficult time getting around. I think to myself you don't have to stay that way, there are options. I've even been tempted several times to private message friends and family on Facebook who are also overweight and tell them what I'm doing and if they want to hear about it I'll share my experience, but I don't want to be too forward. When a person is ready they're ready, I dont want to come off as a know it all or hurt their feelings.

    Unexplained bruising

My lab work just came back where my vitamin K is really low (I'm still pre-op). When I researched side effects of vitamin k deficiency it said bruising, heavy menstrual cycle and a few other items. I'd let your dr know so they can run some tests.
  7. Sorry I forgot to add he put me on 1500 calorie diet and recommended not more than 30 carbs per meal. I averaged about 1200 calories a day
  8. My dr wasn't really strict. I just had to log everything, I use myfitnesspal. He recommended I lose 2lbs a week but if I didn't lose that wouldn't delay surgery as long as I didn't gain. I lost 14lbs. The first month I didn't lose anything it was right around the holidays. This last month I lost 10
  9. Depending on your insurance requirements some people have to do 3 or 6 months of medically supervised diet. The diet is really up to your doctor, some doctors are a little more laxed than others.

    Waiting on surgery date!

I just keep telling myself to be patient. I'm noticing I'm craving junk food really bad....I guess anxiety is a trigger for me. I had been doing so well with my pre op dieting.
  11. Same here this wait seems longer than the 3 month supervised diet. My paperwork was submitted to the insurance last week

    6 month wait

Of all the preop stuff, getting an appt for the sleep study, scheduling the actual study and then getting the results back was the longest process. Get your appt and study done as soon as you can do it doesn't hold you up when you're at the end

    Waiting on surgery date!

I was fine throughout the 3 month supervised diet, but now that all the pre op is done I'm getting anxious to get it done. I'll be so bummed if it doesn't happen in March

    Waiting on surgery date!

I'm in the same boat. I have all my pre-op done. The request for auth went to my insurance late last week so I'm just waiting on approval so I can schedule. I hate this limbo period of not knowing exactly when. My surgeon is shooting for the end of March. I'm hoping I get an answer soon.
  15. You can tell them you had Diverticulitis and had to have some of your colon removed. This will explain the weight loss and also having an unusual diet. I know someone who that happened to, I think it would be a good cover. If I was a better liar I'd use that excuse. lol

Out of Pocket and Deductible Question?

Is that 2890.00 for the dr or hospital or both? Here's what you need to ask the financial counselor. Ask for the total amount that is covered by your insurance company. Once they give you that amount you'll be able to figure out what 20% is. If 20% is less than the 2890.00 I'd call your insurance and let them know they're billing you for more than the contract amount. If the 20% is greater than 2890.00 that's why they're charging you the max before surgery and they're entitled to collect up front.

    4 months post op pics

    You look amazing!!
  18. I think people get used to seeing you fat it's a shock to see you getting thin. It's going to take awhile for them to get used to it. I doubt you look bad, it's just different and sometimes people don't like change
  19. Be strong and love yourself, you're beautiful and he knows it. He sounds like someone with self esteem issues and he's lashing out because he's afraid he's going to lose you. Don't allow him to bring you down and don't let your kids think this is how a.man should talk to a lady.
