    February 2014 post op losers

Hi Julie! Every week, I have at least 3 days of buyers remorse. I have good days and bad days. I know that as I power through this, I will lose the buyers remorse. RIght now, it's just one step at a time. We can do this! K

Pre-Surgery and need an understanding ear

I remember the Saturday before my surgery my family took our son for the night so we could have a date. We struggled really hard to find something to do in the winter in a tiny mountain town that wasn't related to food. LOL. You can do this!

PS- I am in the soft food stage now and my family just had Pasta for dinner. I had a hard time with it. So I finished my meal (refried Beans for the 100th time) and went for a walk. That was a good coping mechanism that I am learning!

Pre-Surgery and need an understanding ear

I can offer my friendship and an ear. I am one month post op and this whole process has taught me just how much I depended on food for stability, emotional comfort, etc. I had a difficult time with the liquid diet for the first 4 or 5 days. They say that there is such thing as a 'carb flu' - where your body just goes wacko from detoxing from carbs. I loved carbs- Pasta, bread! I had headaches a lot for the first few days in addition to the moodiness of not being able to eat. The social thing hurts too- so much social interaction is based around food. I totally understand where you are coming from. What I can tell you is, it will get better. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.

I need to vent! I have head hunger still, and it's bad at times and what I really find myself missing is pizza. My husband wants to order pizza and doesn't see anything wrong with this. I have not said a thing about all the other fast food/junk he has had for the last 3 weeks but this is too much. I want to cry.

Hi kimr, I can completely understand your frustration. I follow "Bariatric Foodie" online (website and Facebook) and she always has inspirational things to say. One thing she said (right before I had my surgery) was to focus on you, and not the scale for at least the first 2-3 weeks after surgery. That your body is going through a healing process from major surgery and you should not worry about those pounds- they will come off soon. I have really tried to take that to heart. Hope that helps somehow. K

    Head Hunger..HELP!

I know this sounds wild but I actually have two therapists now. I was seeing one when I started looking into WLS and my surgeons office has one too that I had to see in order to get approval. I now see both, because one is much more focused on WLS which I feel I need help with!

    Head Hunger..HELP!

Skinny Minnie, I can relate. I have an eating disorder and now that my coping mechanism is gone, I find myself very emotional having to deal with feelings and also dealing with that need (head hunger) a lot. I am only 12 days out but I can say the head hunger is getting a little less and I heard it does lessen as time goes. I think it is important for us to learn other ways of dealing with our emotions and also to find other things to do with our time. I didn't want to be in the house at all this morning because I felt like I was just going to feel trapped and sad so our family went on a walk and a car ride. It helped. Hope you feel better and please friend/message me whenever you want. I am here for you. Kris

Erin, I totally know what you mean. I have an eating disorder- I eat for comfort and escape. Now that that ability has been taken away from me- in the past week or so- I have been dealing with a lot of pain (emotional). I have had my coping mechanism taken from me so i am now dealing with a lot that I always pushed aside with food. It's been hard! K

I f ound this recipe on "The World According to Eggface" it is a great blog by a woman who has RNY about 10 years ago. This is for puree stage. I haven't tried it yet but WILL! Shelly's Baked Ricotta 8 oz of Ricotta cheese 1/2 cup grated Parmesan 1 large Egg, beaten 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning salt & pepper to taste 1/2 cup Marinara Sauce 1/2 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese Mix ricotta cheese, parmesan, beaten egg, seasonings together and place in a oven proof dish. Pour marinara on top and top with mozzarella cheese. Bake it in the oven @ 450 for about 20-25 minutes (best) or nuke it till hot and bubbly. I usually made it first in the oven and heated the leftovers in the microwave.
