Pkdvm got a reaction from BeagleLover in not sure where to post this- husband absolutely does not support wls
    Hi, Sonjajade
I too looked into WLS for awhile before finally making the decision to commit- partly because I had insurance that wouldn't cover WLS when I began looking and partly because of other major life events that always required me to put my wishes on the back burner. When I finally decided that it was truly the option for me, nothing was going to stop me- not being in the middle of a nasty divorce, not caring for my beloved mother or special needs daughter, I was finally ready to take care of me, and the sleeve surgery made all the sense in the world to me.
Now I'm almost 3 months out, 50 pounds down and happier than I've been in a long time for a lot of reasons. I'd try to talk to your husband to see what he is truly worried about regarding WLS, research it like crazy(this website is a great tool) and use the 6 months pre op to see if YOU are ready for this major lifestyle change. It has to feel right to you. Good luck no matter what decision you make.

I went from sz 20/22 2xl to a l/xl and 14/16! It feels amazing I have had so many NSVs, like wearing sz LG scrubs at work, fitting in a roller coaster with my son, and just feeling amazing! I have to figure out how to post pics on here and I will do before and afters. I love my sleeve and loving my life!

Today I met the girl who reccommended her surgeon to me, she's around 9 months out and looked A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Thanks to her who revealed her secret (her colleague had done it a few years back but she never told me) and I feel so grateful for her because I didn't have a clue about WLS.
It was the first time we saw each other since surgery and she was so happy for me, we were gigling a little while talking aboyt our McDreamy (our cute and talented surgeon) we really like him. And the sleeve has changed our lives completely, in the better condition. :-)

I was also sleeved July 28th. It has already changed my life for the better in so many ways. I have had no complications and amazing results. Of course it's not magic and it takes alot of hardwork and life changes but that's what I wanted when I made the decision to have the surgery. Keep on trucking sleevers.

I also was sleeved on July 28th and am thrilled to report that I feel healthy, strong and empowered. Sleevie has given me the ability to control a facet of my life that was out of control for so many years. Every day I try to make the best choices, while also gaining insight into the stressors that I managed for years by overeating. It's quite a ride, but so exciting and every bit worth it. Good luck to all of my fellow July Sleevers.

I don't tell people about my surgery either; only my family and three close friends know about it. It has been almost 5 months now, and I have lost over 70 pounds--so I too am also getting all the comments. So far almost all of them and gracious and respectful, but then there is the occasional bizaro one that makes my job drop. Blessedly most of the time I get to simply smile, and say "thanks, I am working very hard on this!" But for those inappropriate and backhanded ones, I look at them in mock surprise, and say "uh...you know you said that out loud?!" And I change the subject.

Yes, something I have had concerns about. My VSG was 8 days ago. My husband, children and hairdresser have been told. No one else. People, including my family (sisters), have commented on my weight for years, sympathetically, rudely, even with meanness. Why would I include them in this life changing decision. I will probably never tell anyone. They don't deserve to know. Love and respect should be given to people, thin or fat. I say let them wonder!

I know that I don't really know you, but I have a great deal of respect for the advice and support that you so freely give to those of us who are also on this site. I just wanted to say that I am so sorry that this unprofessional PS made you feel humiliated and upset. He is obviously someone who you would not entrust with your medical care, and he has no business reacting in anything but a informative, compassionate way.
You are a brave soul who has had much to deal with. I'm so sorry that this happened to you.

It's sad to me that people consider relationships outside of their marriage, especially without communicating your needs first. It's not fair to yourself, your spouse or the person with whom you enter the relationship, even if it's just for sex.

I am not at all opposed to divorce, nor am I opposed to my husband finding a girlfriend if he feels that he would be happier elsewhere. I just feel that you need to step out of one relationship before entering another. That's a must.

Pkdvm reacted to bikrchk in **PANICKED** VETS: I feel like I won't be able to eat for the rest of my life
Not sure if I qualify as a "vet" yet, but I'm 11 months out and reached my goal range 7 weeks ago. I can and do eat anything I choose to eat! That said, I'm serious about "protein first", keep a food and exercise journal, exercise 4-5 times per week and wear a fitness watch that helps me monitor my actual burn via it's heart rate monitor during focused exercise and with its pedometer for general activity. It syncs with MFP so I know how many calories I should eat on a given day based on my activity.
I make different choices now. Regular bread is replaced by P28 Protein supplement bread, regular Pasta is replaced with a high Protein variety. I dump a scoop of chocolate whey in my coffee every morning. I eat carbs, and desert, but take pains to buy them in portioned controlled packaging when shopping and I don't have multiple servings of that stuff. Ever. I work the things I want into my day and manage my intake with good tracking. I find that I'm WAAAAAAYYYY more food focused than I ever was as a fat person, but I get to enjoy quality over quantity now. It's a freedom I've NEVER known before and I wouldn't trade it for the world!

I will be the hopefully gentle critic here. It looks like you are making bad choices, and feeling guilty about the good ones. There is nothing wrong with a turkey wrap with no bread. In fact, that is a GREAT lunch. Try spreading hummus on the turkey instead of the cheese sometimes to lower the fat. I eat turkey, hummus or cheese, and a leaf of lettuce almost every day for lunch. Also, the pepper steak and onions are not bad, either. Those choices are both high in Protein and will keep you full. Just make sure you chew it up real good and that you eat slowly.
Now.... the topping off a pizza are high fat, high sodium, and not much Protein. If the chicken tender was breaded, then that was also a lot of fat. We don't need to talk about the Doritos, right? Please don't get into the "it was the only food that went down" excuses. When I had my lap-band I fell into that habit and it only results in weight gain. If you have the sleeve, then your stomach should tolerate just about everything it did before, so that is a mindset that you have to get out of. I know that a lot of people have trouble with certain types of food, but if your surgery was successful and you are having a normal recovery, you should not have many issues.
I'm sure you know this, but I will say it out loud (sort of) - WLS will NOT make you lose weight. You still have to CHOOSE everything that goes into your mouth. I believe you DO have to sill be on a "diet" while losing weight. Watch your calories - do you use my fitness pal to log your food? WLS will help you control the portion of what you eat, but you have to make the choice of what that portion is going to be. In my opinion WLS gives you the opportunity of maintain your weight loss and makes losing a little easier. But you still have to diet to get there.
You got this - you have lost 30 pounds which is great. It will come off. STOP beating yourself up! hugs!

Please be patient...you didn't gain your weight over night, you're not going to lose it overnight. Also, please don't compare your weight loss to others' - it's not healthy. You're body is going to lose at it's own pace, just as it gained at it's own pace.
Here are some things I learned in the last 9 months and some helpful hints...
If you graph your weight loss, it won't be a straight line down...it will look like a stair step, meaning, you're going to plateau periodically, then lose some more.
Stepping on the scale daily (or more than once a day) is bad for your soul. My husband hid the scale from me and brought it out once a week. I was happier when I did that.
If you continue to follow your plan (the plan your doctor/surgeon/NUT gave you), you will lose weight. Keep working towards your Protein goals, exercise plan (again, YOUR doctor's plan). When your body "stalls", it's because it needs to. There will be periods of time where you won't lose, then all of a sudden you'll drop 3 pounds over night.
Embrace your successes - maybe it's the fact that you can walk up the stairs without getting winded or you can move the car seat up or your clothes are starting to fit different. Celebrate those subtle changes.
Take pictures of yourself to help you document this amazing journey you are on. I refer back to my "decision day" photo all the time. It's my "before" picture - it's the day I stood on the scale in the doctor's office and cried when I saw the number - it was one of the most unhappy days of my life, but it was the day I decided to change things.
Take your measurements - you will find that you are getting smaller, but the scale isn't necessarily moving. Your body is changing and trying to figure out what's going on, but you are getting smaller. It's amazing.

i would say a personal trainer will help you more in the long run than a diet drug. the drug might help suppress your appetite, but its actually going to slow your metabolism more, leading eventually to less weight loss.

It looks like you are good with the Protein, but I see very little veggies, fruit, whole grains or Fiber. What about Vitamin supplements? What about Water? Seems like when you lowered your food or carbs it did no good. Not sure how eating less being on phentermine is going to help, either. How about upping your calories by adding more healthy, balanced meal items? I try and get 3-4 servings of fruits and veggies everyday. I drink V8 a couple times/week if I feel I'm falling short. I eat plenty of "good fats" and take a whole food based Multivitamin with enzymes and Probiotics. You never know what micronutrients you may be lacking from being on such a protein-heavy diet for so long.
Not trying to preach, just trying "different" suggestions for a more long term solution than just an appetite suppressant. BTW, have you had your thyroid checked?

You never mentioned anything about your diet. What are you eating? How about changing your diet? Maybe you need more Protein, more Water, more carbs /less carbs, more fat/less fat. More veggies, more fruit, more Fiber? Try eating different things. Mix up your Protein sources. What is your Water intake? What Vitamin supplements are you taking? Probiotics? Are you getting regular bloodwork, including full Vitamin assays? Changing how you eat seems to be the more logical answer since whatever you are currently doing isn't working for you.
I think your doctor is incredibly irresponsible by putting you on drugs. Is he just trying to up his stats or what? Starving your body by eating less because some drug is making you less hungry is only going to fu.. K up your metabolism and cause you to rebound and gain it all back once you start eating "normal" again. If drugs like this actually worked we wouldn't need WLS.
