Pkdvm reacted to Fiddleman in 3 weeks post op tomorrow... I can eat a good amount. Is this normal?
If it helps (it may not), my WLS center food advancement plan:
    1. Clear liquid- day 1
    2. liquids (protein shakes, Soups, etc)- week 1-3
    3. Purée- week 4-5
    4. Solids - after week 5
I did liquids (phase 2) until solid phase (skipped purée). After week 5, my solids were 2-3 ounces of soft food like salmon. It wasn't until month two that I could eat chicken and pork (still in 1-3 oz quantities). Hamburger and beef did not happen successfully until month 5 (tried a few times after month 3, but it did not work). The nut recommended we get used to eating 1/3 a cup or 3 oz of food a meal at least for 6 months. That is about how much I could eat, but I measured almost every meal. After 6 months, I started to eat more and more. Today at 19 months, I still can only manage 3-4 oz of chicken, but I can eat more of non dense food like salad, chili and the like. Yet I am not eating based on fullness, but satisfaction. It takes a few months to be able to read your body to get an intuition about satisfaction versus edge of fullness. I made a deliberate decision to not eat sliders, extra carbs, starches, etc during the first 6 months to maximize weight loss. And it worked. I lost 100% in 7 months (180 #). Today it is really easy to eat just enough to satisfy, but it took quite a few months to build these habits. These are just some thoughts for your consideration.

My 5 year old granddaughter and I were watching TV last night, With her head in my schoulder she whispered in my ear "mommy says your belly is broken and you have to get fixed"
That's right, I responded, the doctor is going to fix my belly..
    Is it going to hurt?
    "I don't think so"
    Will it look different?
"Hopefully a little smaller" I said....
You could hear the the concern in her voice when she asked "but papa! where will I sit?""
Got to love the perception of a 5 year old....

    Hi, Joy
I just had my first consult with Dr. Neff this week and I liked him a lot. A good friend of mine was sleeved by him 2 years ago and she adores him and his staff. I also met his nurse navigator(she guides you thru the process), nutritionist and insurance specialist- they were all very pleasant and knowledgable. I asked all of my questions, he took loads of time and gave me all of the info I needed.
Good luck with your visit and hopefully I'll see you around! Feel free to PM me if you wish and welcome!

Some things I journaled about before I had surgery-
You're scared because you're going to lose control over the food...
When in fact it's the food controlling you. You're scared of being thin. You're scared of the attention. You're scared of being whatever you'll be when the weight is gone. You're not sure who that person is or if it will still be you. You're scared of not being able to hide. You're scared of no more excuses. You're scared you still won't be happy after the weight comes off. You're scared you will. You're scared to give up the things you eat that you think make you happy, that are the same things that in the end make you so sad. You're scared of the journey ahead and at the same time are so excited of the possibilities. You're done being scared.
Again just some things I wrote down before my procedure 6 months ago.
On another note....my husband is having VSG on 3/7. He is still scared after seeing me be successful with this lifestyle change. He's mourning food right now just like I did before. I don't think he realized how scared I am, and his family is about his weight. He is 375 and 5'10". If he could feel how fearful we are for him, I think that might change his perspective. He and I have had conversations about if he was scared/is scared from dropping dead from a heart attack or due to his weight. He said no.
I think looking back, I should have been more scared of what I was doing to myself vs. surgery. I hope my husband sees that too eventually.
Good lucks everyone, you'll do great!

It is amazing how poorly people count.
They can't seem to count to one, that's the number of lives each of us have.
No one yet has lived for two people.
The brain in each head is supposed to control what it's body does.
We are sovereign territory which only we have the deed to.
The truth is you have to fight for your right to own your own life. Power hungry life hackers seek to have points of control in as many heads as their coercion skill allows. It is up to us to keep possession of that which is ours.
It is our life, our body, our right to our own thinking and life direction. If running my own life comes at the expense of losing the companionship of those who wish to direct my destiny by whipping me with insult and slander, it is a price that I am happily prepared to pay.

Pkdvm reacted to motherearth in Hello, my friends call me Sherri
    Hello everyone,
I hope this is the right place to introduce myself. I had surgery on the 8th of January and am doing quite well actually.
I've been battling my weight for just about all my life. A chubby baby and chunky adolescents. My first diet was at the age of 14 with Weight Watchers. My last successful diet was Low Carb. Which i would suppose wasn't all to successful since i opted for surgery.
I chose the Sleeve procedure because of the lifestyle i was already use to. Low fat and low carb. The tools i learned with that went well with this tool "The Sleeve".
I am almost 5 weeks out and 26 pounds down since surgery. My daily intake is Protein first of course and chew chew chew. I was required by my surgeon to lose 10 lbs. through the holidays and was at surgery weight the day of surgery.
I'm on track with my supplements and still working ever so diligently on my Fluid intake. I usually hit the 64 oz mark but not always. My protein intake is good but still not at optimal. I find eating small meals through out the day is helping with that. I have to remind myself to eat because i generally don't have much of an appetite.
I'm in it to win it! I look forward to meeting folks here and getting to know you. I'm sure i'll have plenty of questions for all the Vets here. Perhaps there's something i can share with you in return.
Here's to all of us losers.
    Sincerely Sherri

I'm just starting this journey(first surgical consult2/19) and this may seem like a trivial question, but does everyone have to give up coffee with the sleeve? Like forever? Just bought a Nespresso coffee maker and am wondering if that was a poor decision. Thanks!
