First of all Good for you girl! Your doing great. I'm a new loser but fear I will soon be dealing with some of the same issues you are having. I was thinking of looking into therapy for myself. I believe in outside opinions. Maybe support groups. These boards are great for helping us feal understood and not alone. I wish u the best and I am so proud of how brave you are to make this change. In no way is this "the easy way out".

After surgery my stomach really did not like whey Protein. I had to switch to an egg white protein I buy one by Jay Robb in vanilla and it's really tasty I like it most because it's not real thick but it still gives you all the protein that you need give it a try and comes in chocolate and strawberry too but I've only had the vanilla. Hope this helps

Southjerzjoy got a reaction from BiggerInTexas in Alcohol- I was a drinker
I was a drinker. Irish so it's in my blood. My doc gave me permission to have a cocktail this past weekend I am 6 weeks out. He warned me of people trading one addiction (food) for another (alcohol). He mentioned empty calories and the fact that I will be a cheep date because WLS patients process alcohol differently now. So I had 1 cocktail because that is something my husband and I do on Saturday date night. Or did I should say. It was fine. I was fine but the one thing I realized is I'm not a drinker in my new life. It's going to be an adjustment for everyone in my social life especially my wonderful supportive husband. I'm not saying I'm never going to drink again. (I told you I'm Irish). But it is one of the major changes in this new life that I wanted to share. I really thought this was going to be a problem for me. I just hope it's not for others around me. Everyone has been more than supportive and understanding. Time will tell. Thank you all for always being here.

Sleeved on Jan 27th. I truly feel a better me was born that day. Didn't have a dream recovery but that is a distant memory today. I love to cook so I cook lots of different things and make servings for the week or freeze. I track on my fitness pal. My new tummy does not like sugar. The biggest change for me is my relationship with food. We broke up and I have moved on. I seriously feed my body now. I'm am growing out of my clothes and can't wait for warmer weather and dresses. They are more flexible than jeans. I am down 37 lbs and share my story with anyone that asks. I want people to live this life.

I am loving pureed heartier Soups - Progresso Light chicken Pot Pie Soup, split pea, etc. I also pureed a can of higher quality turkey chili. I boiled 2 eggs and pureed with a little greek yogurt, mustard, and avocado. It's all so yummy! Denser foods are not feeling too good for me yet. I tried a baked ricotta from theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com and it was a little much, but good. I'll try it again tomorrow.

I took nighttime cold medicine the other night and in about 10 minutes I could not speak without slurring or hold my eyes open. My husband thought it was pretty funny. Don't know if I helped at all but thought I'd share. It helped my cough.

We all want the absolute best weight loss outcome for each other, but along the way we need to respect individuals' values. Many think of surgery as a turning point for their food choices. They will abstain forever from all junk food because they value physical health above the experience of food. Others simply view surgery as a way to limit the amount of foods they already eat. They will eat fried and other 'junk' foods in moderation, understanding this could result in slower or less overall weight loss, because they value the food experience more than rapid physical improvement.
That said, the first few weeks following surgery is not a safe time to test your limits! My surgeon said the main risk of inappropriate foods after sugery is aspiration (resulting in pneumonia).

First of all, no one is judging anyone here. We are all here because we became obese due to our food addictions. This surgery was the biggest decision of my life and not an easy one to make. It was made because all else failed in the long run. We are here to help each other and babying another friend here and saying 'it's ok we all make mistakes...you poor thing' isn't going to help anyone. If someone is already making terrible choices only two weeks after surgery then they are setting themselves up for failure. I think constructive advice is not wrong. There can be big complications for adding some real wrong foods at this stage of the game. There is no one with a sleeve of steel.... No such thing so early in the game. Anyone that says this is fooling themselves. As a newly post op patient and a nurse myself who has studied and reseached this operation diligently, I can say that I know what i am talking about. I could see later on after time when we are put on regular food, maybe trying to eat something like fried food in moderation every once in a while if tolerated, but not at this stage of the post op sugery on Phase 2 diet. For myself, I am being realistic. If I did such a drastic measure to lose weight that was so life changing, I cannot see not complying with the doctor's instructions at such a critical phase of our weight loss and healing process. If someone cannot take constructive advice then maybe they shouldn't be here on these forums We all make mistakes is true and if we were perfect we all wouldn't be here having major surgery and risking our lives to lose weight. But this weight loss journey is far from over, we will all be tempted to eat things that we are not supposed to. I think that joining a real life support group is necessary for long term success. I am here to learn as well. I meant no offense to the poster and she didn't seem to have a problem with my comment so I don't see why anyone else here would. Sometimes it's hard to express oneself in text form without someone being offended. I was just trying to help....

I have had no physical problems, I am 3 months out and I still don't really care for food. My whole outlook since surgery has changed. I dont know if its because of all the liquids detoxed me, or just not being hungry etc...but for what ever reason food is no fun anymore. I am not hating that at all, but I do wish things seemed good again. Now I just eat because I have too.
But.....at least food is no lnger running my life and I am eating to survive and fuel my body vereses what it use to be to me.

For me, it was such a relief to no longer love food. I spent so many years obsessed with what my next meal would be, how much I would eat, where I could go to get dome thing yummy, could I eat it in front of everyone, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy now that I've started to find things delicious and because I can eat so little, I make sure every bite is a great one. That said, I am no longer ruled by food of my appetite and it's so wonderful!

She's probably just very excited about her weight loss and doesn't realize that she's being inconsiderate. Maybe you could address the issue tactfully and say something like, "I'm so happy that you've had such quick success, but I too, am happy with my decision and my success so far. Your support means so much to me." She'll probably get the picture and realize she's not been a good friend. Unfortunately, sometimes we start to feel powerful and judgemental of others and forget how we struggled before. I'd give it a try and if she doesn't change her tune, you might need to see less of her.

Southjerzjoy reacted to Recycled in whats was your biggest challenge?
Prior to surgery, quite often I would be rushed doing things throughout the day and not stop to eat. It never posed a problem as I would usually stop in at some fast food joint late in the day all famished and go about ordering three times what
anyoneI should be eating. Then I would spend most of the evening non stop eating till I was uncomfortably full and then hit the sack to deal with Gerd and reflux.
The challenge now.......?? My new stomach holds about 2.5 to 3 ounces tops. Doesn't matter when I eat, that's all that's gonna fit. (no stretching allowed). And at 3 ounces a pop and all the 30 minutes before & after drinking thingy, I need all the meal opportunities I can get during the day to get enough nutrition to stay alive..........So if I miss any during the day, there is no making up for it later. My daily routine seems to be absorbed with thinking, planning, or whipping up something to eat. (and it's a learning curve cooking up 2 ounce portions) I even need to plan for it if I go somewhere. Takes a lot of getting used to.
I know, I know.......small price to pay. I'm not complaining mind you......just saying it takes getting used to. Enjoy.
Oh, I forgot.....I'm also faced with the challenge taking longer to eat 2 ounces than I did eating 10 pounds before.

So, my surgery is set for March 28th with Dr. Strohm in NJ. I'm excited and nervous. I keep thinking about stupid things like "will I be able to eat sushi again? How hard is it to never drink with a meal as I realize now I wash almost every sip down with a few guzzles. How hard is it to never have a beer or seltzer like I enjoy now? I'm going to Disney this summer, what if I'm outside in the sweatering heat and can't get enough Water down?

If you are only 5 weeks out, after you eat your Protein and some veggies how would you have any room for bread? I didn't start eating anything starchy; bread, Pasta or potatoes until I reached my goal weight and even now I rarely have pasta or potatoes but do like to have tortillas, whole grain crackers and sometimes toast.
