Schmincke got a reaction from Chelenka in Where are the 50s ???
18 months postop and down 90 pounds. So happy with my decision- at goal for 6 months and losing a pound every month or two now. Still tracking every bite and expect to continue to all my life. Keeping it under or about 1000 calories a day to maintain which is less than I expected but this tool makes it tolerable. BEST DECISION EVER!!

Schmincke got a reaction from TheRealMeIsHere! in Osteoarthritis- pelvic and hip bones pain, is anyone experiencing this?
Osteoarthritis is a result of long term wear and tear. In our heavy days we put more stress on our joints. It would be probably worse and sooner if you hadn't had the surgery.

Schmincke reacted to coopervane in Newbie just wanted to say Thank You all and Hi
I have been casing this forum for a little while, checking everyday, multiple times and I want to say thank you to all because you have really helped put my mind at ease. I have my first surgeon consult on Aug 4th to start the gastric sleeve process. I have been thinking about it for a couple years and finally got up the nerve to pursue it. My final straw was when I went to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO and rode a couple rides with my 7 year old son and I had to squeeze into them and I almost didn't fit. I was so embarrassed and all I could think about is how do I tell my son that we can't ride because I'm to big. Came home from that trip and explained to my husband what happened and that I was thinking about the sleeve surgery and he looked at me and told me he watched me struggle to get into the rides and it broke his heart so he is 100% behind me.
Before I decided to get the ball rolling I watched and read this forum and you all gave me the courage to do it. Thank You!!
So excited, I keep thinking about all the things I want to do when I'm at a weight I can do them. Oh, and not to even mention the clothes!!
Thanks for listening, it feels good to get my reason off my chest,
    Jessica

People don't die from loose skin. People die from obesity related health issues. Are you having the surgery to be a supermodel or to live a healthy, longer life?

Once you lose the weight - most of us tend to forget why we did WLS in the first place... To get healthy... and it becomes more about what we look like...
So some of us end up with some extra skin... it happens... but i accepted that before hand knowing that might happen... I have extra skin around my stomach area, and very lose skin in my upper thigh area... but i FEEL good, i can get up and down the steps, have fun & LIVE.

We all need to be careful to not compare ourselves to others. Fact of the matter is, none of us is ever going to look like bikini clad women in magazines. Unfortunately, we took that option away when we let our weight get out of control. Even if we all get tummy tucks to have a flat stomach, we'll have stretch marks and such. It's okay. This is about health, not about vanity. I myself, after going through the surgery decided there is no way in hell I'm having skin removal surgery. So far it's shrinking up as I lose, but I take really good care of myself. I drink my shakes daily, take my Vitamins, and coat my skin daily in a combination of grapeseed oil and lavender oil. And my body is losing 3-4 pounds per week now. It's those big weight drops over short times that do people in every single time! There will come a point that it won't shrink down and I'm okay with that. My husband is okay with that. I've accepted that I didn't do what I needed to in order to have a bikini worthy body. I'll disguise my skin with clothes and maybe even some Spanx. After all, all the size 2's in Hollywood even wear them. I'm going to take my spanx, get a few cute golf outfits, and I'm going out on the golf course this year, thinner and fit and I'm going to kick my husbands behind all over the golf course!

Premier Protein shakes are ready made. I am almost 11 months out and I still have one almost every day. Usually I have a Quest bar too - loaded with Protein and Fiber. White chocolate raspberry - yum. Low fat cheese sticks. Sugar and fat free Greek yogurt. All very pleasant and easy. I am down to size 6 from size 20.
