I quit smoking years ago, but those that do smoke are told to quit plenty of time before the surgery. Smoking can inhibit healing of the staple line and any healing in general. You can do it!
It will be difficult at first, but it will happen. I tried multiple times in 2001 and finally quit cold turkey. I finally had enough of smelling like cigarettes and having my lungs feel bad. Once you quit, you will be reversing the damage and getting the sleeve will be a huge stepping stone to health!
I think I gave up smoking and started eating more. I grew up with a family that ate seconds and thirds even, and was part of the clean plate club. I wish you the best.

Congrats! I only had gas pains as well...but those are so painful. I wish they could suck the extra air out lol
I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and didn't have pain there until I felt the dreaded slimes and got nauseous and dry heaved. The pain was like being punched and the air being knocked out of me.
All in all I am not regretting my decision!
Keep me posted on how you are doing!

I lost ten pounds and then stalled the last five days or so. I was drinking so much Water and trying to hydrate for surgery, I think it counteracted the weight loss. You will do fine! As long as you've followed your Preop diet, there should be nothing to worry about.

I am trying to blog daily...it helps me hold myself accountable, and I want to be able to document and help anyone else that may stumble upon my blog. I find such inspiration in shellys blog theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and bariatric foodie.com so I wanted to set up my own...if I start sliding I definitely have to be accountable for my actions.

I'm still on my liquid/protein shake phase and just tried the Tomato basil bisque from safeway...it is so yummy and had so much flavor. I actually thought it would be a good alternative to Pasta Sauce and may just add zucchini noodles or slices to it when I can eat solids.

I am using this post op time to really evaluate my food choices and what I am putting in my mouth. I hope it continues for years down the road! My family has a long history of obesity, and I want to be a good example if I am lucky enough to be blessed with children. I had the sleeve to lose weight and start a family. I'm 33 and I have said every year for the past ten years that I will lose the weight on my own, but I haven't.
I want kids so bad, but as most girls who are overweight know, obesity wreaks have on your cycle and can cause secondary infertility.
I pray that in 18 months when I can start trying that I am blessed with a baby.
I think we have to keep our goals in mind everyday. I know if I sit down one day to eat at a picnic, I will be able to eat a few chips and not the entire bag.
On my pre op diet I was lucky to be able to eat whatever I wanted as long as I remained under 40 carbs a day. I literally counted everything I ate. I had taco salad one night and had 10 bite size tortilla chips crunched on top of the salad. 20 chips had 20 carbs, so if I had 10 carbs from that, I was happy. I didn't feel deprived and was able to still eat normally. I will continue to count carbs as it is the only way I lose weight.

I was on liquids the day of surgery and the day after, I'm on the 1st week of liquid/protein drinks and to be honest I have a really hard time with protein!
I am eating plain fage greek yogurt with Torani Syrup added for flavor. I'm drinking tons of herbal Decaf teas, Water, and still eating Jello and pudding. It is hard!
I'm starting the next phase on Wednesday and that is mush/puréed food. I just stocked up on baby food.< /p>

I can't wait for my liquid/protein week to be over! I know it's for safety reasons. So I will gladly adhere to the post op diet...but I went to the store today and bought tons of mush/purée food
Gerber pears, peaches, applesauce, Apple/mango/kiwi, oatmeal (for mechanical phase), unsweetened applesauce, sf Jello (can't wait until I can add fruit to it! My sister and I both love banana and peaches in different jellos), no sugar added Libby peaches and pears, a huge tub of fage greek yogurt, and I think that's about it...looking forward to the next phase ????

Don't give up hope! I actually went in for surgery in September 2012 and when I woke up I was told they couldn't do the surgery due to my liver. I thought that was a sign that I was meant to stay this way forever. I had gotten into a car accident in the parking lot of that clinic, and it seemed that whatever could go wrong always seemed to go wrong there.
Fast forward to the end of 2013 and I decided to look into other doctors. I went to a surgeon who told me I should do bypass, but I know that wasn't the right decision for me, so I looked again and found Dr. Landerholm.
I went in for a consult and told him how I gave up and he told me never to give up hope. He had me do a three week pre op diet and I had surgery last Monday (9/22). I also had a hiatal hernia repaired that the first surgeon said I didn't have, so I have to look at it as a blessing in disguise. If the first doc had done the sleeve, I'd still have a huge hole in my diaphragm where my stomach was stuck.

I don't feel hunger, sometimes I feel gas bubbles, but no hunger. It is the strangest sensation. In my head I know I need to eat something, but even some broths and Soups I ate before just don't smell as good. I still love the smell of pizza and toast lol, but they don't make my tummy rumble in hunger. Before, if I smelled pizza I had to have some, even being on liquids it really doesn't bother me

I think the hernia repair is worse than the sleeve. It may take awhile to eat/drink. I am post op by 2 days and can drink warm tea, Water, and fluids, but I just have so much gas it's hard to sip and burp. I made a shaved ice with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder, a packet of sugar free Hawaiian punch, ice and a little Water. It tastes so good, I'm going to make a pumpkin one, and try root beer next. I have a couple different sugar free Torani and davinci syrups, so I am going to make different things.
I bought an oster personal blender and it is amazing at making shaved ice smoothies

I chose the sleeve because I don't want my insides rearranged and if I make Cookies at Christmas, I want to be able to at least taste them and make sure I'm not giving my loved ones gross treats. I want to be able to eat normally but with moderation, which is what the sleeve helps with. I am a volume eater. Even if it's healthy, I just eat too much
