my personal reasons why I chose the sleeve:
    1. I am a volume eater! I may not be shoving Oreos and junk food down my throat, but I overeat, even the good stuff like fruits.
    2. I am already anemic, have low Vitamin d and B12 levels, so I did not want to have issues with malabsorption.
    3. The thought of having most of my stomach removed doesn't bother me, hut I get the eebie jeebies from the thought of having my intestines movers around.
    4. I don't really eat a ton of sweets so the major possibility of dumping syndrome being a deterrent wasn't needed.
    5. I also love to bake during the holidays! Like Graham Elliot, he chose the sleeve so he can still taste test what is being made. Like I said in #4, I don't eat a lot of sweets, but being more prone to dumping syndrome wouldn't be good for testing recipes.
    6. My mom has a history of colitis and ulcers, and was hospitalized once and had to receive blood transfusions...that alone made me want to leave my intestines alone.
    7. I have had Migraines since childhood and NSAIDS help me. They can be used occasionally with sleeve (at least some docs ok it) and with bypass you can't take them at all.
    8. With bypass you have a small pouch and your anatomy is changed and if something happens and a medic or doctor needs to scope you, the can perforate your pouch if they aren't advised you have had bypass.

I absolutely love ice cold drinks and slushes still. I'm 2 weeks and 4 days out and drink both ice cold and hot beverages.

It also depends on how long it takes you to eat. Some people still eat fast, while others are eating slower. I really have to think about eating slow or I have a hard time.

I made the mistake of eating and drinking too close together and suffered awful nausea and vomiting! It's so hard! The other day my hubby said "you were watching the clock on drinking weren't you" when I began sipping my half water/half simply apple juice.

Anyone else try new foods and get sick and vomit afterwards. My goodness, I don't know if I ate too much or my tummy didn't agree, but I spent the last ten minutes or so with my head in the garbage can...

I am going to challenge you.. not to in any way invalidate your feelings or experiences, but rather to give you "food for thought".. so please take it in the way intended.
Can you really eat as much as you used to? Are you really as hungry as you used to be? Do you think that you can continue to lose weight (and more importantly maintain your losses!)? Could you have accomplished any of this without the sleeve?
I have lost over 160#. I started at 308... and my dream, my measure of success was to get under 200# and actually maintain it. At 5'5"; still obese. I got to about 190 and sure enough... my weight loss slowed to a crawl. At about 8-9 months post op, I was losing around 2# a MONTH!
I met with my nutritionalist and she pointed out the single worst thing I was doing food wise that created my problem.. i was eating Protein bars like candy. crap. One more thing got banned from the house. Essentially, Protein Bars had become my new junk food and they are really high carb!
I also faced my own inner feelings. I had lost about 120-125# and people gave me so many compliments, I felt so good, I could physically do things so much easier... but I still had a nice comfy protective layer of fat. I frankly looked matronly, in spite of my friends saying how good I looked, i looked like a typical overweight middle age woman. hmmm. Did I really really want to lose more? Was this good enough? Was I fearful of trying to get all the way to a normal /slim weight?
I had to face my own inner decision - much like the original decision to get WLS. What do i want to make of this? How can I leverage this tool to the fullest?
I got hardcore again. I went back to basics and pushed pushed pushed, Water, Vitamins, ate low carb again, worked out... etc. Frankly, that first about 14 months post op (except for the little Detour I just talked about) I didn't do alot of fun stuff like vacations, dinner parties and cocktail hours. I focused on losing weight.
Guess what, when I refoced, reduced carbs, my hunger decreased and my weight loss accelerated back to the 9-12# a month until I got to my ultimate goal in Feb 2013.
I am now maintaining under my goal weight and it is still work. (it is easier than staying under 300# was for me preop, but it is still work). It is my lot in life. Guess what, it is the struggle most women over 40 engage in to stay trim. It sucks. My best friend packed on about 35# over the last year or two and she is hungry all the time.. just to lose a pound a week she has to really work it.
Anyway, in truth, i would have been okay if I had maintained at 190.. beats the crap out of 300+ and gaining.. but I am very glad that I took the plunge and continued on as I love my body and health at a normal BMI, but the reality of the WLS situation is that it is not a guaranteed easy ride to skinny-ville.

Great job on pre-op diet and congrats on your future sleeve!
I have watched so many in my family battle obesity and I ended up losing a few pounds and gaining back double over the years.
My highest was 337 and I'm 5'4, so I'm like the girl on willy wonka that turns into a blueberry lol. I got down to 320 on supervised diet and that was a struggle! I lost another 10 on preop diet and last Monday at my weigh in I was 304! I haven't been this weight in years!
You may have days where you wonder "what did I do to myself" but if you read on here, we all think that during the first few weeks! It really is making a huge difference in my relationship with food.
Even though I am 2 weeks post op today, I no longer wake up wondering what I'm going to eat today, that behavior reminds me of my friend who wouldn't get out of bed before having a cigarette. Her life revolved around them, and my life revolves around food. It feels like the sleeve helped me break up with food lol. Now I only eat to get calories in and live!

My nieces and nephews love having burping contests with me even more. Now I'm constantly belching! I swear I swallow too much air when I drink out of a bottle but I'm fine when I used to use a straw...I can't wait to use straws again!

I packed too much. I slept almost the whole time besides walking and sipping a bit of Water. I never used my cell phone, never changed until I was discharged, never used my crossword puzzle book etc. the only thing that came in handy was my stuffed animal I brought (from my niece and nephew) and the blankie (from my nephew). I didn't use any of the Water flavoring I brought either.
Not sure why I pack so much, it's not like a mini vaca lol

Today my hubby told me "you are looking so much skinnier" and that's at 11 days post-op!!!!! I'm excited! I can't wait to reach goal, even when I hit stalls, I will have to remember where I started. My highest weight was 337 a few months ago. I wanted to crawl under a rock! I haven't weighed since Monday, but even then I was 304. That's 33 pounds! Woohoo!
