1. Hey folks.

Sorry it's been so long since you've heard from me. I went back to work on July 1st... forgot how busy my life really is.

Anyway, a grand total of 25 people submitted responses to the interest survey. The leading responses for days of the week to meet were Tuesday and Thursday. Most people want the meetings to start at 7:00 pm.

I haven't heard from our co-host in about six weeks. Maybe weekends are an option after all. How many people would prefer a weekend meeting?

Thanks for your patience with me.

  2. I am in Sanger (Denton). My wife and I both had surgery on May 28th, 2014. We probably wouldn't go to meetings (just not our thing) but I'll myfitness pal or something like that with anyone :) Myfitness pal username: DSMCasey

Well, Sanger is kinda far anyway!

I didn't think I'd enjoy meetings, but I do. I go to Baylor's meeting in Grapevine and love it. I learn so much from the people who have already been through all of this.

  3.
Has anyone thought about where we could meet? Restaurant, church, someone's home?

I'm kind of leaning more toward church, library, public school -- something like that which will be free or cheap. My own home is not large enough to host people... I'm not opposed to a restaurant, but it may be tough to find one with a separate room (that also happens to be bariatric friendly).

  4. Well, May post-ops.....how are things going?

I feel like I am finally getting the hang of this. I am on a full diet as of week 6 and loving the freedom to choose more foods. Oh, how I missed my salads and veggies. :) Right now I can fit 1-2oz of Protein and a couple tablespoons of veggies. I have been doing much better getting in my Water and Vitamins in. Feeling like more of a normal person every day. The pounds are coming off steadily....not as fast as I thought they would, but steady. :)

As of today, I have lost 38.4 pounds in 7 and a half weeks.

It's going! Haha. I recently got to add in protein chips and Protein Bars so it's really nice to have a snack to grab instead of always having to cook. I eat 2-3 oz. of protein and 1 oz. of fruits and veggies. I often don't make it to the veggies coz I get full off the protein. But... I don't usually sit down and eat a meal like that. I get full too quickly and then hungry again shortly after. So I eat several smaller meals a day. It seems to work better. I've been doing better with my fluids but vitamins are still a struggle because they're gross. Haha.

I've lost 31 pounds in 6.5 weeks. I seem to have hit another stall, so I'm going to attempt to exercise more this week!

  5. The co-host works weekends, so unfortunately, yes.

    Ok

Thanks for answering. Though it would still have been nice for Saturday and Sunday to have been included on the survey. What if most people had chosen Saturday morning? But that data won't be gathered.

I did not include the weekend days because I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up. If her schedule changes in the future, maybe it's something we can look into.

  6.
Well I'll keep my fingers crossed this is only a dairy thing. So far so good. I tried unsweetened Almond milk yesterday and no issues. So we will see.

Hopefully my kids will eat the yogurt I bought as I'm too scared to try it.

Good news for the day, I'm down 53 lbs! Woo!

    Way to go!

I use the unsweetened vanilla almond milk. I don't think I've even had real milk since the surgery.

  7. The only time I experienced dumping syndrome it was about an hour after eating.

Now, with celiac disease, I had issues that were similar to dumping syndrome, but it would happen usually within 30-45 minutes of the beginning of the meal.

...I guess the point I'm trying to make is, I don't know why it's happening so late for you. :( you've had so many issues, I'm so sorry.

  8. What kind of food did you bring with you? Can you buy that where you are at? I'm sure at 5 weeks out, you shouldn't be eating any Pasta or bread or anything like that. What fresh fruit and veggies and lean Proteins that aren't fried or anything can you get at?

Bear with me, I don't have my info with me so I'll tell you what I remember.

I can have turkey (and its sausage, bacon, etc.), ham, pork, canned chicken, eggs, and various seafood but I hate it... then cooked vegetables: carrots, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower... and fruit: cantaloupe, honeydew, watermelon, applesauce...

  9. Hey y'all. I am 5 weeks post bypass. My family and I went for a road trip today. I packed enough food for the whole trip, perfectly planned and measured. We checked in to our hotel, loaded everything into the fridge, and left for the event we're here for. When we got back, we realized the fridge is broken and everything got spoiled. Now I'm 200 miles from home with nothing to eat. I could really use some help here. I don't know anything about ordering from a restaurant that would be both bariatric friendly and gluten free. I don't know what to do. :(

  10. Hi everybody, I'm new to this group. I had my surgery on May 7th and it went great had hardly any pain, from the surgery. Diet is going great, except can't eat cheese, it makes me nauseous every time. I've lost 33 lbs so far and feel great about that since I can't get out and exercise due to recent knee surgery. My biggest problem I have is I only fix food for myself and to fix that small of a meal is so hard I find I'm wasting a lot of food. Some of it I can freeze but if I open a can of Beans for instance you really can't freeze them. I don't mind the Protein Shakes that are already mixed up but i find I can't get the grittiness out of the powder. I have tried the blender, I have tried leaving it in the frig over night but just can't get it out, any suggestions?

I've been sticking to the ready to drink Protein shakes for that exact reason. I had a lot of luck before surgery using a Blender Bottle... took most of the grittiness out, but it also depended on the brand used.

I feel like I'm wasting tons of food too. I'm trying my hardest to make things I can get my family to eat too, but who wants soft/puréed foods?

  11. Hi all!

I have volunteered to be a leader of the DFW chapter.

    About me:

My name is Kris and I live in Irving with my husband and two sons, ages 10 and almost-5. I work full-time as a pharmacy technician in a call center. I go to school online full-time as well. In my spare time (what spare time?), I write a blog at BariatricCeliac.com. Eventually, I hope that my blog becomes a good resource for both Celiacs and those interested in bariatric surgery alike. I had gastric bypass on May 20, 2014, so I'm still pretty new to all this.

As you can see, I already keep pretty busy. However, I am passionate about being able to have people to lean on during all phases of their bariatric journey. Since our area is so large and since I am newer to the world of bariatrics, I would be thrilled if someone else would be willing to co-lead with me. One thing I love about Irving is that it is so centrally located in the metroplex. Would anyone be opposed to meeting somewhere in Irving?

I would love to hear any and all ideas about our meetings, and I can't wait to meet y'all! :)

  12. Hi! We had ours done at Baylor Dallas. The staff there was great. I was sure to complete the patient survey and nominate several staff members for making my stay such a lovely one.

Did Dr. Kuhn do your surgery as well? I know he has privileges to several hospitals in the Dallas area.

Keep in touch

My surgery was done by Dr. Matin. He works out of Grapevine, but my insurance made me go to Plano for the surgery.

  13.
I'm in the Irving area!! I think this is a great idea. When I went to the support group my dr recommended it felt more like another nutrition class..but I have surgery next month and I want to talk to people about their experience and what they went through and all that!! I love the idea.

Hi there! I live in Irving too.

  14. I'm am now 15 days post op and doing great! I went to see my nutritionist today. I have advanced to my puréed stage. I know ever doctor is different, but I can have turkey (including turkey bacon which I love), low fat cheese, and lean meats. I picked up some turkey meatballs and I can have that with marinara sauce. I also can do lean hot dogs. I can have the grilled chicken nuggets from chick- fil- a as well. I feel so much better with being able to eat different foods!!! I saw a girl today that had gastric bypass on May 20th of 2013 and has lost 130! She looks amazing!!! Ahh love the support and encouragement!!

Yay food! I have another week before I can go to soft foods, and I can't wait! How are you doing so far?
