Tralynn222 reacted to ErinshayWV in Touchy subject.... stinky poo and gas :(
Gastric Bypass Surgery actually bypasses part of your intestines, shortening the digestion process. The resulting stool and gas is more stinky due to more undigested material which “ferments”. I keep Poo-pouri in my purse for outings/travel and have orange oil spray in all my restrooms at home!

I am now 100 pounds down from my highest weight. I lost about 70 pounds before surgery, and I've only lost about 30 pounds since surgery. I can hardly believe I've lost 100 pounds. I've seen other people who have lost 100 pounds and wondered how they did it because it seems impossible. I've gone on a lot of diets in my life and never lost anywhere close to that much.
But even more amazing than the fact that I've lost so much weight is the fact that I have so much more to lose. A lot of people start their journey at my current weight or lower. If I lose half of my highest weight, I will still be obese. I started out the weight of two obese people. Now that I'm 100 pounds down, I'm the weight of two normal people.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with your decision. I had the revision from the Band to MGB in Dec of last year and couldn't be happier. I had the band for 12 years and never lost any weight. Now, since having the MGB I've lost 83 lbs in 7 months. I always hated how the band felt when I ate, now I just feel full. It's not painful or aggravating like that band was. Good Luck to you!

    Hey All!

I don’t comment much on here but you all have definitely been a big help to be on my journey!! I truly have loved hearing all of your stories, it has been a big motivational help to me. It’s nice to have a community that doesn’t have judgement and everyone can ask questions and share their stories with each other. I’m about 15lbs from goal and about 8 months out from my surgery.
My before picture was from 2018 and probably wasn’t even my heaviest and then right was from yesterday!
I think weight loss surgery is a great tool, but it 100% is all mental the rest of the journey. We have to daily make the right food choices and want to live a better life.

Thanks for all of your support!!

I am officially 7 months post surgery and am incredibly happy with my progress so far. I'm down 122.4 lbs total, and 80.8 since surgery. A few of my NSVs:
    - The arthritis in my knees causes significantly less pain
    - I am walking 2 miles most days, and hiking when I get the chance (up to 6 or more miles)
    - My strength and endurance is increasing. I still get winded and need to take breaks (especially on inclines) but there's no way I could have done some of the hikes I'm doing pre-surgery.
    - I'm down from a tight 2X to a L or XL.
    - I have collarbones again
Below pics is from shortly after I started my journey (pre-surgery) to this morning.

Thank you to everyone who has responded to my post. I appreciate all of your thoughts and advice.
I have decided to go with the MGB and I am booked for surgery on August 27th. I start my shakes tomorrow. I am so looking forward to this change. I have high hopes and high expectations on myself.
Once again, thank you for your help!

i Haven't been in here for a long time but wanted to respond to this post.
Firstly, I am no angel in the eating department but have found that the more fat I eat, the more I fart and they stink. When I keep the fat in my day lower, it is 100% more controlled. Fat also has a tremendous effect on poo. It tends to pass right thru so the more fat you eat, the more runny and stinky the poo.
Don't get me wrong. The poo smell is revolting but I find the better I eat, say with a lot of vegetables in the day, I'm in a much better position.
I eat dairy but too much makes me extremely gassy. So if I want an ice cream or frozen yogurt, I'll follow the first spoon with a chaser of lactaid tablet!

I also have these issues. At least I can say I am very regular. Also what I eat predicts how bad my gas will get later in the day.

I too am having issues like this. Every morning as soon as I have anything to eat or drink, it's straight to the bathroom for at least three to four visits. The gas is atrocious and very hard to control. I seriously hope it isn't like this the rest of my life.

Actually, it is not a sleeve. The acids do not meet the food until after the food has made it some way down the small intestine, just like the RNY. The pouch is very similar to the pouch that is with the RNY. Both pouches will only allow 2 to 4 oz of food or liquid at a time, right after surgery. It is the same malabsorption as with the RNY. The MGB is considered to be less chance of complications, less than the RNY. Weight loss is better than with a sleeve and comparable to the RNY. An experienced surgeon can do the MGB in a way that eliminates the chance for bike reflux. MGB takes care of acid reflux like the RNY. Some bariatric surgeons suggest that the MGB is better than the RNY in pretty much every way.
So people choose MGB over RNY because it is just as effective and safer. People choose MGB over sleeve because of the malabsorption and because it can get rid of acid reflux issues.
I answered the question of malabsorption and the need for Vitamins in my first post. As far as weight loss, it is comparable to the RNY. Both the MGB and the RNY cause more weight loss than the sleeve.

    Hi Mikeyy,
The MGB and the RNY are different in that the MGB only has one joining, or anastomosis, not two joinings (anastomoses) as with the RNY. Because both are bypassing feet of the small intestine, they are both malabsorption surgeries. And the malabsorption is the same for both.

Here is a demonstration of the MGB:

    Hope this helps!

I don't think I'll ever be 'thin' as my family has athletic builds and tend to be on the curvier side. I always told myself my goal was to be at LEAST a size 14 in pants... a 12, if I'm super lucky. I'm in a 20 right now. And yes, I do still feel fat and because of that I do end up buying bigger sizes. I went shopping the other day and bought a bunch of new shirts and when I tried them on at home they were all too big! And I bought 2xl's!
