  1. BrandNew- Welcome back! WE are all in this together. Surgery is not an end-all in itself. But having everyone here to cheer each other on and to encourage each other to be what we were meant to be is what will get us there! Be proud that you are back.

Thank you! I realize that this journey is mine and no two journey's are the same. I have made great accomplishments in other areas in my life and I am ready to get back on track now. I already feel so much better physically and it's only been a few days.

  2. I had absolutely no issues and I flew to Pittsburgh, PA. I made sure I walked when I could while I wasn't flying and I moved my legs around a lot while I was flying. I had a history of a blood clot post surgery a few years ago but it was minor and only needed aspirin therapy to dissolve. The previous surgery was one where I could not walk or move for 3 weeks prior to the surgery (I had a broken hip) and there were 2 surgeries before I was up moving around. While in Mexico, I wore the stockings as indicated in the hospital then went for frequent walks in the days after surgery. I did not use the stockings on the flight home.

  3. I do understand that if "Team Surgeon X" is run by people who get referral fees for signing up patients to book their medical procedures with Surgeon X, they will want to protect Surgeon X's and their own financial interests.

I do not believe anyone in Team Illan receives any type of compensation for referrals. We are just a support group on Facebook. I will speak for myself to say that I do not. I do speak up and support Dr. Illan because I believe that he is a great doctor, nothing more. I tell my story the same as others here. People should hear the good and the bad and make their own decision.

  4. Honestly, I don't know what to make of all of this. I was never a part of the "Omar fan club" but I didn't find him to be unprofessional with me either. There are some that absolutely adore Omar and consider him to be a close friend. I still would recommend Dr. Illan as a surgeon as he was wonderful. I would pause to say that in that recommendation that a woman should not go to a strange country alone to get surgery because you may not be in the capacity to make good medical decisions for yourself. I would have said this before I learned of this situation and would have said it about ANY surgeon out of my country.

  5. I am a patient of Dr. Illan. I went with my husband. I just want to say that Omar was professional and friendly while I was in Mexico. I found all the doctors there to have charm about them but I never felt that I was being picked up on and just felt that was a cultural difference.

I will also edit to say that Omar was so busy trying to take care of all his patients that I reminded him that he needed to eat, drink, and take care of himself. I do not know where he would find the time honestly.

  6. I am not sure where my boobs will end up. I know as a teenager I was a 34D cup at 130 lbs. I am currently at the beginning of my WLS journey and not sure where my 44DDD will end up. I am weird as I have never in my life had perky porn star boobs and if I had to change the shape of them now it would be only to lift them maybe 1/2 inch. I am not sure how I feel about implants or perky boobs in the future. I'm wearing sports bras at night since surgery hoping that the support helps me keep them in place!

  7. Just checking in. I'm doing great. No pain. My incisions are almost healed. Just moved to pureed food and everything is going great. I've had a couple of times I ate a little too fast and everything felt heavy for a few hours. My hunger is really not there as long as I am feeding my body every 3 hours and getting my fluids in.

  8. Here is a bit about my surgery... Prior to surgery I did about 5 days of a liquid diet with a regular Protein dinner. The week before surgery I was allowed 1 Protein shake a day, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, broth and I ate Dannon light & fit yogurt. I got in the night before surgery to the hospital. I was allowed liquids until 10 pm which they really encouraged to make getting an IV easier. They came in the morning asked me to get a shower and change into hospital gown. Then then put in my IV. I first got blood work and chest x-ray, after the cardiologist reviewed those things I then got an EKG and was cleared for surgery. I met all of my team the anesthesiologist, Dr. Illan, 2 other doctors, as well as the cardiologist was all in the surgery room with me. They then came in and gave me anti-nausea meds in IV. Gave me a pill to relax under my tongue which tasted disgusting but I managed to take it.

I was then wheeled into surgery, I got on the operating table and within a minute I was asleep and awoke in my room. I had some discomfort, no pain. I was given pain meds (Toradol), antibiotics, and anti-nausea meds via IV on a schedule. I didn't have any nausea so I refused that at night the first night and felt some pain then, nothing uncontrollable that I needed to ask for additional meds. I started walking short trips in my room and stood during the night the first night because it felt better when I did so. The 1st day after surgery I walked every hour on the hour. I had no gas pains. The 2nd day I walked the halls a lot and chilled out at the hospital.

The 3rd day I was discharged from the hospital and went to get my leak test. All was well so we were off to get some broth, then went the spice market and site seeing the beaches with my coordinator, Omar all day. Word of caution the stuff you drink for the leak test tastes disgusting and it seems to kick start you needing to use the bathroom. We went to get broth and for my husband to eat and then we went to the beautiful Lucerna Hotel.

The 4th day my husband and I decided that we wanted to get some sun poolside so we stayed back from going shopping and relaxed poolside after walking around the block. We then walked around the block again after being by the pool and ate some leftovers from the day prior in our room. While in our room, I got pampered and got a facial and then Omar walked with us to the Taco stand to get some broth there.

The final day I awoke and was sad that I had to leave this beautiful country and its people. I also really missed my children and was ready to head home.

Never did I feel unsafe. I was pampered from the time I set foot off the plane and felt all of my needs were not only met but were exceeded. Dr. Illan and his staff were top notch. If I wanted for something or had a question, it was addressed immediately. There was a doctor at the nurse’s station 24 hours a day. Omar, the coordinator is nothing short of incredible. I had an excellent trip to Tijuana, Mexico and with Baja Bariatric’s.
