Just had surgery yesterday, I was in a large amount of pain last night. Now I have only 1 more hour until ice chips. I bet they taste amazing! Still unhappily gassy but been up walking around and took a shower.
Thanks for all the support all!

Day 11 for me. First, put the candy away. If it's your kid's have them put it away. I'm gonna tell you what they said to me about pre-op diets. It's not just about shrinking your liver. It's about whether or not you can even be compliant. They may not know if you cheat. But YOU'LL know. You'll know whether or not you are ready for this type of change.
After surgery is easier with true hunger. But you'll have to have your head on straight to fight head hunger. This is a way to see if you can do it. And you know what, you can.
This is hard. It sucks. I'm tired. I'm hangry (hungry+Angry= hangry) but I'm not going to fail this and neither are you. This is your restart. You actually get to reset your metabolism and it's a one-time opportunity.
Guzzle Water, eat sf Jello, eat sf pudding. Chew on a staw if you need to chew something, but do not let food beat you.

Well... I did it... I cut off over 12 inches. I'm not sure I like my new haircut. I think it needs longer layers - but there's not going back now!

I had my surgery 2 days ago in Tijuana with dr. Ponce de leon. It all went very fast. I got to the hospital at around 12:30 pm, the staff took me up to my room and told me to get changed. A nurse came in and put in my IV, then I had bloodwork done and a quick ekg...about 5 minutes later they wheeled me up to the OR and I walked in, met the "medicine man", & then I was out. To be honest I havent had any terrible pain, but my stomach is tender...hot Water bottle has helped. I did travel on my own and its been fine, but there have been a couple times where I wish my spouse had been with me, but I do realize that he wouldnt be able to do anything for me other than just be there for company...if that makes sense. The Doctors and nurses at INT hospital were very attentive and were always checking up on me. I would definately try to learn a few key words of spanish or bring a phone with google translate on it with you so that you can communicate your needs better if you dont speak any spanish at all.
As for two days out...Im not comfortable, but Im not in pain either...Im sure everyday will get better. Worst part for me (outside of having my iv veigns collapse 4 times - yep...4 times ...I have deep little veigns) was having my drain taken out...blech (be prepared...but know its only momentary). I havent had any naseau and like I said, gas pains are tollerable for me).
Good luck! Youll do just fine!!!

Your post reminded me of a re-occurring dream:
I have garnered the ability to fly with nothing but the power of my will.
I fly around friends, relatives, and strangers and they just look at me indifferently.
I am screaming in self promotion, "I can fly..I am unique...no one else can do this!"
No dice. Nobody cares. I am swamped by the feeling of frustration.
What I am missing in my dream is the sheer joy of flying. I have risen to a challenge that I had considered impossible. I am doing what I thought I could never do. But I am missing the joy of my new freedom to see the world from new perspectives because I waste my dream trying to get elevated approval from the earth bound.
Back into the conscious world, I have experienced this. My wife got the gastric bypass a short time before I got sleeved. Our weight loss was similar and we reached our goals.
We moved to Florida and met with relatives here. They went absolutely nuts about how great my wife looked...to me they just said, "Good for you." Mrs.Astounding Transformation and her husband, Chopped Liver. If I weren't the mature man that I am I would have been jealous but I was happy for her and didn't let it bother me.
    Peoples is peoples.
Grab your joy where you can find it.

As part of the approval process for my VSG, I had to do a one night in-patient sleep study and it verified what I had pretty much known already, that I had obstructive sleep apnea. The test showed that I averaged 24 events an hour, which is pretty severe. I was given a CPAP machine and it was my nightly companion from that point forward.
Since that initial test, I've had regular follow-ups with my sleep doc and as my weight dropped so did the number of events per hour and the pressure required to maintain my airway as I slept. Two weeks ago, I did an at-home sleep test and this morning I got a call with the results from that test. Due to my weight loss, my OSA has resolved and I no longer need to use the CPAP machine!
I danced around the apartment like an idiot after I hung up the phone then cleaned up my CPCP and tossed it into the back of my closet

I will be having surgery in Mexico on 2/27/14. I did all of my research and I will be going with Dr. jaime Ponce de leon. I also contacted my insurance who informed me that they would cover complications. It is important to talk to your insurance company to clarify with them.
    Good Luck and Well Wishes!

I go the 3rd for all of my pre-op stuff and I'm so excited. Sure, the worry creeps in but I know that this is really gonna save my life. As real as it is, so is sleep apnea, high blood pressure and being unable to walk much Bc of all the pressure from extra weight on my spine and hips. We got this! Chin up

I recently came across an article online titled ‘5 Things We Can Learn About How to Eat by Watching Kids’. Interestingly, four of the five tips are topics I often discuss with my clients undergoing weight loss surgery. The five tips were as follows:
    1. Be picky - only eat your favourites
    2. Slow things down
    3. Keep it simple
    4. Eat with your hands
    5. Eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full.
Whilst eating with your hands is one I tend to skip, the other four tips are very relevant.
    1. Be picky - only eat your favourites
Have you found yourself scouring the supermarket for the perfect fat free, sugar free but still deliciously tasty chocolate? Dark chocolate of course, so it still provides all the antioxidants. How did that search go? I’m guessing you’re still searching.
There is no substitute for the real thing and that is not only true of chocolate, but a whole range of foods.
After weight loss surgery you have less space to fill with food, so it makes sense to fill it with food you enjoy. Sure, you need to make sure you are eating a balanced range of foods to get all the nutrients you need, but you should be doing this with food that is pleasurable.
Tania, a gastric bypass client puts it very simply: “I do what the French do, I eat everything I want, but I eat in small portions."
    2. Slow things down
Eating too quickly and not chewing foods properly are both problematic after weight loss surgery. Many of you would have learnt very quickly what happens when you eat too quickly – discomfort, pain and possibly regurgitation.
Have you ever told your child to hurry up when they are eating? Well perhaps they are the ones that have it right. I’m currently feeding a nine month old baby. I happened to watch the clock last night as she ate. dinner took us about 20 minutes. Perhaps these children are on to something!
It should take up to 20 minutes to eat a small meal. If there is food left on your plate after this time, discard it.
Concentrate while you are eating. Sit up straight and avoid slouching. Set aside time for meals and avoid doing other things whilst you are eating. Put simply, slow down.
    3. Keep it simple
Many clients of mine will have heard me say that there is 21 meals in a week, so they don’t all have to be perfect.
Do you need to serve meat and three different coloured vegetables every night? No. Do you need to cook a full roast meal every Sunday? No. Do you need to know exactly how many grams of carbohydrate you eat each day? No.
Sure, you need to ensure you eat a balanced range of foods and your dietitian can guide you with that. But if you can’t be bothered cooking is there a problem with throwing a tin of tuna and some pre washed salad leaves in a wrap for dinner? No.
Keep a supply of simple foods on hand that you enjoy for those times when you just need to throw something together. Here are a few of my favourite staples I keep on hand to throw together a whole array of meals:

    § Eggs
    § Tinned tuna or salmon
    § Lean sliced meat
§ Oven ready/microwave ready frozen fish
    § Baked beans
    § Pre-washed salad leaves
    § Avocado
    § Mixed frozen vegetables
    § Tinned corn
    § Tinned 3 bean mix
    § Tinned beetroot
    § Diced tinned tomatoes
    § Wholegrain/multigrain crackers
    § Wholegrain/multigrain wraps or mountain bread.< /div> 4. Eat when you’re hungry and stop when you’re full.
Have you noticed that a child can eat almost all of a sandwich, pushing away the last two mouthfuls announcing that they are full? Our instinct is often to tell them to finish what is on the plate, remind them of the starving children in Africa, but is this doing more harm than good?
Children have an innate ability to interpret their hunger and satiety signals, but we often encourage them to override this. What does this teach the child? To eat whether you are hungry or not.
I have spoken to hundreds of people undergoing weight loss surgery and many were told to finish the plate, or were not allowed to leave the table until they were finished their meal. Many have also said that they have felt truly hungry for some time.
To successfully manage our weight we must be able to interpret the hunger and satiety signals our body gives us. (Satiety is the feeling of satisfaction after eating.) No matter how healthy food is, too much of it is not good for us.
Do you need to spend some time following surgery re‐learning how to listen to your body’s signals? Perhaps you need to watch a child eat and follow their lead.
