  1. Sounds like we had our surgeries around the same time. I got to my lowest weight of 164 lbs. About a year after surgery. I started out at 325. I gained back about 10 lbs over the last 2 years, and I felt fine in the 170s. I knew that I wasn’t eating my best though- I was eating whatever I wanted in small portions. That’s not how I wanted to live, and I didn’t feel my best.
So 2 weeks ago I tried out the 10 Day pouch reset diet- not to shrink my pouch, but to get back control of my eating. I ended up losing 6 lbs during those 10 days.
I decided to continue eating clean by cutting out most carbs and wine, and sticking with vegetarian way of eating. I feel great and I lost a few more pounds!
So I just thought I’d let you know what worked for me- Good luck! You can do whatever you set your mind to! We have already proven that we can be successful after surgery, sometimes we just need to remind ourselves that we are bariatric patients for life who have to constantly work towards maintaining our new bodies and minds!

As stated above, square inch for square inch Muscle weighs more than fat. So as you reduce fat stores and increase muscle mass, you can see weight gains. That's why I've pushed so hard for people to stop tracking weight as a specific number and start looking at the trend. I've tracked weight and body fat my whole process, not really caring about the numbers exactly, but what I was doing and which direction those numbers moved. The more I work out for muscle, my body fat drops and my weight gains. When I focus on cardio, my weight drops, sometimes body fat does as well, but not as fast as when working out for muscle gain. This is because larger muscle mass requires more energy in rest than smaller muscles do, so, bigger muscle mass, larger fuel requirements, faster fat breakdown.

Plus, our bodies get used to what's going on and start to level off. Check into Intermittent Fasting if you haven't yet, really get me through some serious stalls.

    Extremely helpful. Thank you!

  3. This is very important. I'm starting to creep up on 200 again, but I've been working out so my body fat is dropping while the weight might increase.
Can you explain what you mean by this?

It seems that when I workout consistently, I gain some weight. There have been weeks when I don't exercise, and I drop weight. This is very frustrating. I would love your insight. Thanks.

I recently hit my lowest weight of 174 lbs, but I'm slowing creeping up to 180 lbs despite tracking food and working out daily.

    thank you,

Don't worry, once you're in regular food stage, you can enjoy menudo, pozole, lengua, barbacoa, arrachera, and chorizo again- just a few ounces at a time though! Lol

I'm 7 months post- op and my stomach is fine with all my old favorite Mexican foods. I just stick with Proteins and veggies, and I avoid tortillas, rice, and Beans.

    Good luck!

  5. Wish I could relate. Been single my whole life and still a virgin at 46.

    Have you considered online dating?

I consider myself shy, socially awkward, and a bit of an introvert. Bars and social scenes weren't for me. So, 12 years ago I tried online dating and I was lucky enough to meet a woman than I married 2 years later. I was 32 years old at that time. Next month we Celebrate our 10 year anniversary.

I dated a few duds before I met her, but it was worth it in the end. Good luck!

First, congratulations on your success so far. That's amazing in 7 months!

Others may disagree, but by 7 months out I was no longer weighing myself daily and was doing it only weekly. As long as you are following the program, which you say you are, you shouldn't worry about minor fluctuations. They can occur for a variety of reasons and don't mean anything in the long run--nor do stalls. Just keep doing what you need to do and you will be fine!

So, you think 4 lbs is still a normal fluctuation? I had always told myself that anything more than 3 lbs would be a red flag for me. Thank you!

  7. I had RNY July 2019 and I'm down about 130 lbs total from pre-surgey 311 lbs to current weight of 182 lbs.
In the last week I've gained 4 lbs (178 to 182). I'm trying to catch my mistake now to prevent the scale from going up any further.
Im watching my portions, counting calories and carbs, and drinking most of my Water. Im not doing anything different than I was doing when I was losing. I can accept a stall, but I'm terrified of regaining just 7 months out. I had hernia repair surgery on 12/31/19, so I'm still unable to exercise for another few weeks. I managed to lose about 10 lbs during January after surgery without exercise. February has been a rough start for me though.
Have any of you experienced a gain like this throughout your journey? I've stalled in the past, and I have even gained a lb or 2, but gaining 4 lbs is scaring the hell out of me.
Overall, I know I've been successful, but being obese my whole life makes me not trust myself when it comes to health and nutrition. Please give me words of advice to get me through this. I feel so confused reading the threads sometimes... eat more, eat less, watch carbs, carbs don't matter... I just don't know what to believe.

  9. Interested in hearing from anyone who's had hernia repair surgery after bypass or sleeve. Advice? Thoughts?

I am 6 months post op rny and was just told that I have to have an abdominal hernia surgery next week! Im trying not to panic about another surgery and not being able to exercise for 6 weeks.

I've lost almost 120 lbs and I'm proud of my workout routine, so I'm terrified about breaking my new habits. I have 20 lbs left to lose and I'm sick with the thought that I'll gain some of my weight back.

Appreciate any insights y'all might have for me.

  10. Stalls are just part of our journey 😊 I just keep on plugging along and have learned to trust the process. I hit several stalls over these last few months. I finally hit ONEderland and found myself in yet another stall... I'm enjoying my progress and loving my new life. I'll hit my last 2 goals... eventually ❤

  11. I'm just past 4 months post op rny and I've only had dumping once on accident. I made a Protein Shake with things that added up to a bit too much sugar than I could tolerate. But, every body is different, so you'll have to get to know your body.

Honestly, dumping was one of the reasons why I chose rny over sleeve. I knew I would need that extra kick in the butt to help with my lifelong food addiction! I have zero regrets with my rny. My life is so much better since making the decision to get wls. Good luck!

PS- I also attend wls support groups, OA meetings, and see my regular psychiatrist to help with my lifelong food addiction.

  12. I haven't taken a bp pill since before surgery. It's been perfect.

Surgeon held off on my bp meds after surgery. I had a follow up with my general dr a few weeks after surgery and she officially took me off bp meds since I had lost some weight and my bp was normal [emoji16]
    Good luck to you!

Btw- Today is my 2 month Surgiversary!

  13. We've been enjoying our cruiser bikes for 10 years! I had rny surgery 8 weeks ago, and getting back on my bike was one of the things I was most looking forward to. We rode around Chicago today and tomorrow we're hitting up a country trail in Indiana! Enjoy the ride!20190831_143656.jpeg

  14. Hello, July Siblings!
I had my RNY on July 3, so I'm about 6 weeks post-op. I began this journey at 311 lbs (pic on right) and weighed in at 242 at my last dr visit (pic on left).
I'm pretty excited about my success, so far. I've had minor challenges along the way, but nothing discouraging. I'm still learning about my new normal and trying to enjoy every step of this process.
I love reading about your successes and seeing your progress pics, so keep them coming! 20190810_150250.jpeg
