Another Look at New Year’s Resolutions
KristinaRnY replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I like to breakdown my large goals into small achievable goals... I don't get the feeling of failure because I didn't lose 100lbs over night... But got a feeling of accomplishment because I lost 5% of my excess weight and then 10 % lowering my risk of heart disease and other complications and I'm getting closer to my overall goal of being healthy. I didn't make any resolutions this year. To me New Years resolution is a negative term. not because I've failed so many of them but because I'm constantly setting small achievable goals for myself and I don't need a specific date to reevaluate and set them. I take every day one day at a time and adjust as I go. -

Husband, kids and eating healthy oh my!

Try making a crockpot full of chili for dinner, if your a meat eater, ground turkey is a good substitute and you can also pack in lots of veggies in disguise. High in protein and you cant tell it's ground turkey. I'm a vegetarian so I use like 4 types of beans and a ton of veggies in my chili but I make my dad and fiancé turkey chili. -

Even sugar free pudding snacks would be a step up from ho hos! Or sugar free jello, do they like dried fruit or banana chips? Try the 100 calorie packs of cheez it's or party mix to kind of transition off of the other chips. -

Toasted cheese, avocado, and tomato sandwich with some asparagus spears and orange slices on the side. -
My doctor told me my morning weight was most accurate, but the important thing is to be consistent in the times in which you weigh for a more accurate weight.

The only people I told were my parents and my fiancé and two good friends, this happened to be one of my good friends whose mother in law just had it and she was talking about that and I just happened to mention mine was getting close, I wasn't even aware this person was near or listening. Oh well! Lol
-
She is a friends friend and I had never even met her before, I was discussing it with my friend when she chimed in.

Thanks for the list! I appreciate it, I'm a vegetarian and feel like I'm constantly having to defend myself about the protein thing. To be honest I eat more protein now than I did when I ate meat.

Pre-op question...?
KristinaRnY replied to *Misty*Raine*'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I didnt mean to post that yet lol, anyway, I eat about 1200 calories a day and exercise 5-6 days a week. I just recently started incorporating a protein shake in. So I'm eating my mini meals that my post op diet consists of, taking my vitamins, exercising, and keeping track of my protein and also making sure I drink 64 oz of water a day. I've been doing this about three months and have lost 30 lbs so far. I'm looking at having surgery in march. -

I read 50 shades of Grey today, hoping to finish the trilogy by next weekend. I then want to read Orange is the New Black, and I'd like to read the matched series. So I have a few books in my reading queue :-p

Mexican potato tacos -
I've had several friends use it and one that is an independent distributor and they have all lost quite a bit of weight, none that have had wls though. I'm not sure if they continue to take it or how the maintenance part is. I guess I'm not much help, just have heard of it briefly and seen good results.

I'm not saying by any means that I wouldn't do the surgery. No one knows what they would do in that situation until they have lived it. I obviously believe in the surgery or I wouldn't have considered it for myself. I was just curious of the long term affects for someone in that particular situation.

I don't think we expect anything, just expressing our concerns that if it is neurological how much will bariatric surgery actually help and for how long. This isn't an emotional eater so to speak, so even if her stomach is smaller and "full" how would that be different from being full at any size if it's neurological and her brain isn't telling her she is full? I understand how it would help the weight related issues I was just curious what happens once her body adjusts to the tool, is she right back to where she was before? Do they know? Does anyone know of anyone in a similar situation or have any knowledge with validity on the concept? And you are right this is a bariatric forum, seems like a good place to discuss it to me.

You are stunning! Great job! -
I don't see how it would help either, not for long anyway. As soon as her body adjusts to the surgery wouldn't she just be in the same position anyway? The surgery doesn't change your brain, just reroutes your plumbing.
