    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Well, crappy crap. I awoke this am to left shoulder pain again. :-( (8 out of 10). I thought I was past that since I'm 5 days post-op. Not only do I have shoulder pain, but also sharp, throbbing stomach/ bowel pain. Think I'll just take it easy today and rest. God bless each of you awaiting surgery today and the rest of the week. Keep us posted on your recovery. Has anyone else had hot-cold issues? One minute I'm cold and the next I'm hot as hades. Very confusing.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hey Simpley_ke, sorry to hear your having such a hard time getting in your protein. I've been using the Syntrax Nectar. I like the fruity flavors and the drinks are thin, and mixes well. Also I really like Chike. It mixes well and is thicker than Nectar but I really like the flavors. The banana is yummy. Have you tried the hot chocolate or soups by healthwise? Their good and comes in in good flavors. I like tomato soup the best. I can tolerate room temperature or below 140 degrees but cold makes my stomach cramp. Before my surgery I did a lot of research on protein drinks. I was very nervous about not being able to tolerate anything either. I was able to order variety packs so I wouldn't have to buy a big tub of any one thing. I order from Nashua.com. Hope this helps. It will get better. The recovery is a slow process. This is silly but every since I got home from the hospital I stand to drink anything. I just thought it would be easier on my stomach. So far it is working.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Well the good news is I had a bowel movement. Four days post op. Yeah. I had a shower to. Oh boy, that felt good. In reading recent posts I see a lot of people have only two weeks post op liquid diet. I have four weeks ugh. Also my psoriatic arthritis is better. I'm not in as much pain and my red areas look better and is not itching. Has anyone else had their arthritis doing better?

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I woke up this morning hungry. Yep hungry, my gut feels empty but I can't fill it. But nothing sounds good either. So I'm just confused. Would love to chew something but afraid I would become nauseated. Anyone on this thread in East Tennessee. My surgeon is dr. Williams?

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hope you get out soon. I know I feel better at home than in hospital. The sipping gets better. It's my only job right now resting, drinking, and peeing. I've had bouts with hunger. That is not fun. Sending prayers your way . Keep us posted.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I made it through the first night at home after surgery. I'm feeling ok but get tired easily. I slept better but was up 3X last night to drink and pee. I think that will be my life for the next few weeks. Drink and pee. Drink and pee. I can drink 2oz in fifteen minutes so that's good. My taste hasn't really changed so things I had, I still like, yeah. Nausea hasn't been that bad for me. I was really worried about that. One of the nurses told me to breathe through my nose while I'm sipping my drinks and it has work. Not as much air getting in my system. I'm not tolerating cold liquids at all. It will cause my tiny stomach to cramp and that hurts. Im staying on top of my pain meds and taking every six hours. Also, it takes a long time to get my medicine down. Been working on that for the last hour. My head has been hungry today but my stomach says no no no. Can't wait to take a shower. That's going to feel so good. I'm off work for 4 weeks so I hope by then I've got things under control and eating purée food. Thanks everyone for your tips, suggestions and sharing your own stories. It has made a big difference in my journey. Everyone keep up the hard work of recovering or the hard work of your pre-op diet. Praying for those having surgery next week. Keeps us posted.

I'm using syntax Nectar, they have fruity flavors and sweet. Also it's a thin not thick which I like better. Roadside lemonaid and twisted cherry are my favorite. I ordered a variety sample pack. Each pack has 23gm of protein. I also like the hot chocolate.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Yes Atlanta Red I had terrible left shoulder pain when I awoke from surgery. I really stayed on top of the pain though the night. Had my surgery yesterday had a drain in and that was the cause of pain. I got the drain out this am and the pain is much less. I'm still sore there but not the sharp pain I had before. So far no nausea and I'm able to drink fine. I started protein shakes this afternoon ok so far. I hope to go home tomorrow. Yeah

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Surgery was yesterday and the Dr said everything look good and no problems with gallbladder or hernia. Left shoulder pain was off the chart. I tried to stay on top of the pain through out the night which helped. I've been peeing like race horse since they filled me with 5 liters of fluid before and durning surgery so a lot of good losing 10 lbs on the pre-op diet. Lol. The drain was removed this am and the shoulder pain is all most gone. So far tolerating liquids, ice chips, and jello. Start protein shakes at lunch brought some of my own in case I didn't like the ones here. Been up and walking or sitting in rocking chair whIch helped with the left shoulder pain. Thinking of everyone having surgery today and fri. God bless you. Btw the staff here have been lovely and accommodating. Most of the nurses have been through some type of bariatic surgery themselves so they have a great amount compassion.

Yes walk walk and walk. Also your stool could be very hard and needs softening. Try a glycerin suppository and of course you can always try a brown bomb (warm prune juice and MOM) but could be hard to get down. Always works in about 8 hours. Random thoughts from a nurse.
  21. Yeah that they found nothing and you will go home soon to your own bed. I know that will make you feel so much better. God bless you and you will be positive again.

Try not so suck in any air when your sipping. Swallowing air can sure cause burping. Try keeping your mouth closed until the liquid hits your lips. Hope it helps.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Good luck with the pre-op. I found that the first three days were the hardest then it gets better. My diet wasn't all liquids so I'm sure that made it some what easier. I'm coming to the end of my pre-op days. Thought I would do just liquids tomorrow to clean the system before the big day Wednesday. Btw your surgery is on my birthday. I'll be sending out special wishes to all the sleepers that day.
