I was 65 and did this., it has been 3 years and I had questions at first but NO regrets now.. I had trouble staying hydrated and had to eat from medicine cups.. give your body time to adjust! And don't eat the wrong foods or overeat.

Found if u take your Protein Bar and pinch off small pieces and roll them ...place onto an oven proof plate.. Turn on broiler for about 2.30 to 3 minutes .. Then remove!
It leaves you with a mild crunch on the outside with a warm gooey center! Apple pie, almond crunch Quest bars are my favorites ????
Let's pretend this is our spring girls count Cookies that we gave up for this. Amazing new life! # 70 pounds in 4 months and feeling great! ENJOY

Just got home today from my panni.. I no longer have a belly button LOL pain is tolerable as long as your getting a good amount of MEDS every few hours! I had morophine every hour.. Came Home with oral Hicet.. Works awesome! Surgery was at 1:00 Friday ( 2.5 hours then 2 hours in recovery) Home in my own bed tonight ( Sunday ) so far NO regrets! Love the binder and I thought it would of made me nuts...????????????

Three weeks might be tough. I didn't get all my drains out until after week three. I am over 4 now and still not completely recovered. I need to call on Monday because an incision on my right hip split about 3/4th of an inch and may show signs of infection. I am going back in 2 more weeks and am glad I took all of it now. This is the hardest but most rewarding surgery I have ever had. I still wear my compression garments and the swelling looks so much better and the scale says I'm at 113 but when I saw my Dr on tuesday he said I still had a little more to go. I am over 40 but was in excellent shape before this surgery but still shocked at how wiped out I am at the end of the day. I still take pain meds at night because of my right hip too. If your job isn't rough it might be ok. I just know I couldn't have gone back at three but my job is very mentally challenging and my brain just wasn't working 100% at that point. Keep me updated and I wish you well! I am thrilled with the results and buying clothes I never in a million years could have before. I don't mean to scare you but I thought I was tough as I've had multiple surgeries including a breathing reduction in the past. All were a breeze except this one. But again, the reward outweighs the pain. Weird but true.

I was told they occur more often in patients that are eating that 1/2 cup of food entirely too fast.... My surgical team wants us to take 30 minutes to eat! Makes for reheating a few times each meal????

I am a newbie. Just got my date yesterday. Looking forward to May 10th. Sounds like I may be the elder on this forum. I am 72. It took me 8 months to get all of the tests and Medicare approval. Having the gastric bypass as I had a hernia repaired several years ago and doctor said this was my option. Starting on liquid diet this week for 2 weeks prior to surgery. Expecting new grandbaby in June and need to be able to get down on floor and play with him like I did my others who range in age from 25 to 11. Will keep up with all of your post to prepare me for what is to come.

Birthsjourney got a reaction from tebowfan in Gastric Reflux Post Op... A Survey
Irene... I had my RNY on Nov 18th mostly based on GERD so severe that the acidic juices were aspirating in to my lungs and causing them damage! Nothing helped this for over 12 years. The decision was made to bypass the portion of my stomach that produces the acidic secretions. The physicians referred to it as silent GERD since meds kept me mildly heartburn free but I had a terrible cough from it. I now have lost the 70 pounds that I needed too but of even more importance is that the GERD resolved! My surgeon here in Toledo, Ohio area proved to me that the RNY was the only gastric procedure that WILL do this. Hope this helps and that you find relief also. Best regards, Dyan

Thanks for everyone's advice! I am almost six months out ( RNY) and have been between 184 -185 for about 2 months! My nut says I lost so much , so fast that my body is catching up with itself?? The closer you are to goal ..the slower it will be. Set points happen even when u are doing EVERYTHING right but really? I have decided that if this is it .. I will be ok with the process. I feel great and could do without more winkles at age 64! Lol. Nut says those last 20 pounds WILL come off by my one year mark...
