I was 65 and did this., it has been 3 years and I had questions at first but NO regrets now.. I had trouble staying hydrated and had to eat from medicine cups.. give your body time to adjust! And don't eat the wrong foods or overeat.

How can u drink a highly carbonated drink??? Try a ginger Decaf ☕️ tea.. I am three years out and would never drink a carbonated drink .. glad your over the hump of that post op stabilization ??

Not true dumping.. you will learn quickly from what happened. Your pouch can't handle 6 oyster crackers this soon! Carbs convert to sugar.. you overfilled it. Keep your eye on the new you! I had RounY 3 years ago.. lost 70 pounds in 5 months and have not gained back a pound of it...follow your plan..This works but if you think oh, just a few crackers.. NOT Worth it ever.. you got this!!

Just got home today from my panni.. I no longer have a belly button LOL pain is tolerable as long as your getting a good amount of MEDS every few hours! I had morophine every hour.. Came Home with oral Hicet.. Works awesome! Surgery was at 1:00 Friday ( 2.5 hours then 2 hours in recovery) Home in my own bed tonight ( Sunday ) so far NO regrets! Love the binder and I thought it would of made me nuts...????????????
-
Panni was done Friday! In OR about 2.5 hours... Then reCoveRy 2 hours. Going home from hospital this afternoon ????
Pain is what you would think ( incision goes from hip to hip) 2 drains in. Best advice I would say 1. Take the pain med everytime it can be given. 2. Walk. As much as tolerated.... Swollen but binder feels good on my belly ( I no longer have a belly button ). LOL
-
Thanks for the input! Sounds much like I am figuring on! ????. Good idea about the back up belly binder... Congrats to you on your WLS JOURNEY! I have NO regrets so far.. I was one year out on Nov 18th and it's not been bad at all

My panni is scheduled for next Friday ( the 19th) excited but would love to hear from pals who have stepped through this journey! Medicare approved me at age 65... Figured it must be an omen to do it ????

I am 65 and have Medicare... They approved my panni and I am scheduled for Dec 19th.. Feeling like it will be the prize at the end of my WLS journey! Any advice from post op panni folks?
-
Arty mama.. I am 65 and scheduled for a panini on Dec 19th.. Thanks for the advice! Nervous but excited at this point. How long were you in hospital?
-
I am scheduled for a panini on the 19th of Dec. please repost how you did... Would love to hear your story!

Great idea for a forum! Thanks Alex... We all need support after the weight loss slows down! This IS when it would be so much easier to stray away from the plan

My surgeon says never a glucose tablet.. I am type 1 and can only treat with milk and a few Peanut Butter crackers! Those tabs are pure sugar and can cause Dumping symptoms

Today I am 6 months post RNY surgery! I will be 65 in a few months.... I sure understand your concerns but my Only regret is that I didn't do this years ago! The entire journey has been fairly easy and I am down 70# and off most of my former meds... Love shopping at Old Navy again! I have 20 more pounds to go but the weight loss has slowed now, but I am fine with it! Stay positive, the first few weeks were not terrible but it becomes a balancing act! Track everything makes it soooo much easier. I use my fitness pal and wear a fit bit wrist band... Who ever would of thought with 4 kids and ten Grandkids I would be doing a 5K on Memorial Day!! Love'n the new me

Thanks for everyone's advice! I am almost six months out ( RNY) and have been between 184 -185 for about 2 months! My nut says I lost so much , so fast that my body is catching up with itself?? The closer you are to goal ..the slower it will be. Set points happen even when u are doing EVERYTHING right but really? I have decided that if this is it .. I will be ok with the process. I feel great and could do without more winkles at age 64! Lol. Nut says those last 20 pounds WILL come off by my one year mark...

Irene... I had my RNY on Nov 18th mostly based on GERD so severe that the acidic juices were aspirating in to my lungs and causing them damage! Nothing helped this for over 12 years. The decision was made to bypass the portion of my stomach that produces the acidic secretions. The physicians referred to it as silent GERD since meds kept me mildly heartburn free but I had a terrible cough from it.
I am looking for some data regarding GERD and the Rny Gastric Bypass for Post Op's. You can be a virgin stomach or a revision patient, if you are a revision, please reply in the comments as well. I am revising from Sleeve to Bypass because my Surgeon feels it will be best bet to cure my GERD. I have it extremely bad and even if it helped to make it better it would be a relief for me.

Thanks in advance!

I now have lost the 70 pounds that I needed too but of even more importance is that the GERD resolved! My surgeon here in Toledo, Ohio area proved to me that the RNY was the only gastric procedure that WILL do this. Hope this helps and that you find relief also. Best regards, Dyan

Had my RNY 5 months ago... chronic severe GERD..damaging my lungs! Problem resolved..My surgeon said it is the only way to clear out the reflux since the part of your stomach that produces the acid is removed . Good luck to you!

Five months out from RNY and found this to be the easiest procedure I have ever had! The plan becomes rountine after a few weeks... I do use my cell phone alarm for eating and Vitamins since hunger is not too previant anymore. Down #70 and only 22 from my goal already! Took a bit until I could get all the fluids and Protein in but it got better every day! No worries..you will do fine! Love shopping and taking 3/4 of the meds I once took also.. I am almost 65 years young!

Haven't checked in for awhile! I am almost 65.. RNY on Nov 18th.. Down almost 70 and have no regrets! No complications, in fact, it wasn't a big deal at all. Thank Goodness...
I have now been stuck with the same two pounds for almost 5 weeks now :-(. Oh well, still trusting the plan and surgeon. Only have 22 more to go and he wants it slowed way down now??? What I didn't see coming at my age is how well the fat filled out all the now visible wrinkles! LOL. Guess it's always something huh? Good to hear some Oldie stories from all of us... Feeling awesome and love shopping at Old Navy at this age.....Dyan from Ohio

I hear you here! Had RNY a day before you... Lost 70 and now have weighed 184 for 5 weeks! Ugh... Need 24 more off! This is no longer a stall. My team says it is ok as they want it too slow way down as you get close to goal... I don't. Getting 100g of protein, 64 oz fluids, under 800 cal a day and under 40g carbs... Come on !!! Good luck to you also
-
The Protein amounts is hard to get in at the beginning! Just be patient and no with time you will be right up to the required amount as per your surgical team. I cannot tolerate the creamy shakes myself. Switched to drinking Isopure clean fruit flavored ( GNC or Vitamin shoppe) they will get in 40 grams in a 20 oz bottle... I still take all day to drink them , at 5 months out!.. a bit pricey but well worth the grams. My favorite is Apple Melon. For some reason they taste better on ice and in a CamelbaK bottle from Target... only allowes small sips through it!
Also make shakes with PB2 with or without chocolate and Peanut Butter cookie flavor Prottizyme all mixed together with Krogers Carb Master milk or SILK... add 1/4 banana when you are allowed.
Good luck to you.. It is all so very worth it once you work out your own dislikes and likes! Listen to your pouch...LOL I lived on shrimp cocktails since week 6... and now enjoy Wendys chili ( which I hated before)... ???

I stall for a month also! It is discouraging but I try very hard to believe in the process! It moves almost everytime I increased my Proteins to over 100 and I keep my calories to about 800... Your doing great but I sure get what your saying!
-
Bob Evans beefy veg Soup ( leave out the corn) Wendy's chili, jr Arby's ( I only eat half the bun) grilled nuggets from Chickfil-o.
I live on shrimp cocktails ... My go to at many dinners out! But I am 4 months out now. It would be hard every meal on vacation. If u have access to an oven... Break up a GNC Quest bar and broil it for a minute! Taste awesome! Drink an Isopure daily ( 40 grams of protein.). The apple melon is good.. My favorite "out" fast food is Boston Market.. Not shown on the menu but ask to purchase only the 1/4 white meat for $4.59 .. Gives us 49 grams of protein.. Good luck and enjoy the vacation!
