  1. That's great that you have help

It will be a breeze for you

I had to cook, clean, do laundry etc

Take advantage of the help the first week out

Luckily I don't have sleep apnea so they cancelled my second sleep study :-)

The first one I could not sleep there at all

    It was a long night

I got thru all of the appointments with taking a few half days at work

They schedule as many appointments as they can all on one day if u ask

They really put you thru a lot of testing

After all the appointments are done it's such a good feeling that you are almost there

You will be there before you know it!

  2. Hi

    I'm 47, and 5' 6 1/2 inches tall

    My starting weight 251

After two week pre op liquid diet I lost 12 lbs

4 weeks out on Tuesday and I am now 221

    So all together down 30

Dr O'Connell says 6 weeks out of work

Well, I kind of went back at 3 weeks

I'm a single mom and need the income!

I'm a dental hygienist in a very busy office

They wanted medical clearance for me to come back and dr oconnell would not give it

So my work decided to let me come back early because they are short handed

The first day was ok, I was just very tired when I got home.

Tomorrow is a 12 hour day and I hope it's kind to me lol

    As for pain meds,,,

I did get them in the hospital.

They have you self dispense when you feel you need it. I did use it bc I was in a fair amount of pain the three days I was there.

Once I got home I didn't really need any pain meds at all.

It was just uncomfortable , esp sleeping on my back.

Give it a few days home and there is not any pain. I have a broken tailbone and herniated discs in my lower back and that hurts way more!

If you think of any other questions feel free to ask

I did find it helpful for me to do a lot of stock up shopping before the surgery

It's just me and my 15 year old so not lots of help here

Don't know what your situation is

I got all heavy items such as kitty litter, laundry detergent , can good, as well as stocking up freezer, fridge for my daughter as well as items I needed like broth, Jello, Protein powders, etc.

    Hope this helps

  3. Hi

Dr O'Connell was a very good surgeon

    Surgery went well

    No issues at all

He came in at least once a day as well as a couple of other drs he works with

Liked them all. Very good bedside manner

Was in cooper three full days

Daytime nurses were great, however nights were terrible. I had a room outside nurses station. So much noise!

Other than that it went well. Couldn't wait to get home and get sleep!!

Tuesday is my 4 week post op. Down 29 lbs so far. One puréed foods n hopefully soft foods after Tuesday

If you have any questions or need anything feel free to ask!

  4. By 6 weeks out you will be in soft foods.

I'm 4 weeks out and starting soft foods myself.

I've been out to eat twice so far. The first time I got a cup if Soup and that was perfect.

I went out to lunch today and got an appetizer. It was two scallops and two shrimp grilled on a skewer. Perfect amount to fill me up and very soft and easy to get down. If you like seafood that might be a good choice. Low in fat and very soft. Any flaky or soft fish will be good as long as it's grilled or broiled!

You won't be able to eat to much so the family might notice you have barely touched your food.< /p>

    Good luck!

  5. Alright December Sleevers, I'm hoping that this title brings more people in so we can follow and encourage each other through our journeys. I am 40. I'm 5'4" and about 308 right now. I'd like to get to a healthy BMI which would be around 145. I'm hoping for a December 4th or 5th date with Dr. William Johnson. Everyone introduce yourselves! 7. My dr told me 6 weeks post op

My employer wanted a letter stating why I was going to be out if work

In the letter they said 6 weeks out of work!

Now my employer says I need a medical release to go back to work.

They don't want to be liable if something happens.

I see my dr in 10 days for a pre op visit

I'll have to have a talk with him!

  8. I took one week vacation. Had my VSG on a Friday so with both weekends off I went back to work on post op day 10. Had no problems at all other than needing a little nap when I got home. I'm a nurse so I do have a physical job...just made sure I had people to help me do the heavy lifting.

Thanks for your info on your experience

    Very helpful

My only issue is my dr told me 6 weeks post op at home! My employer wanted a drs note of why I would be missing work

In the letter they put 6 weeks recovery

Now my employer says I need a medical release from my dr stating I'm ok to return to work

Now I just have to convince my dr to allow me to work.

In 10 days I have my pre op visit with him

I'll have to see what he says

    Thanks!

    Lisa

  9. I'm facing the same dilemma...surgery 1/13/14 MD says 6 weeks...I can only stay out 4 weeks max

What kind of work do you do?

If it's a desk job with not much bending and lifting maybe they will release to to work after 4,

I work as a hygienist in a very busy dental office.

I'm up and down off of my chair very often, running around the office, lots of bending to clean etc.

I have to somehow convince my dr to allow me to work sooner than 6 weeks!

I won't be able to pay my rent or bills etc.

I live pay to pay, but need this surgery to be healthier.

  10. You won't need a return to work authorization unless your workplace requires it (very typical if you are on short term disability).

My employer Wyers a back to work authorization from the doctor unfortunately

Hopefully I can convince my doctor I am well enough to go back after three weeks

I should probably look into getting short-term disability benefits just in case has anyone had to do this?
