  1. Hi guys! Im hoping you all can get me through some of the doubts im having the closer I get to surgery. Im 25 years old and 360 pounds. Im terrified of the risk of developing a blood clot with surgery. I know the actual surgery has some great success statistics but blood clots are a risk to any surgery and that seems to be what im hung up on. I understand the mindset that if I stay this weight I will die but that doesnt seem as instant as a clot would. Im only 25 years old..not married and no kids..so the "I might die anyway" rationalization isnt calming me-no matter how true it is. To top it off the danger zone for blood clots last for weeks after the surgery and I dont know if I can handle that looming over my head. Before I got insurance approval I was very ready for my surgery..now im not so sure. Any advice or things your doctor's might have said about the same concerns? Ive got a novel sized lists of questions ready for my surgeon! Hoping for insight! Thanks guys!

    serious second thoughts

Thank you all so much for your insight. I did get my surgery date of feburary 15th and things are moving FAST. I read something today that said "If God leads you to it, he will get you through it" I really felt like suddenly all the doors opened for me to get this surgery ive been hoping for for 7 years. I was always denied because of insurance..it was a big series of events that got me to the point of having surgery next month and I believe god wanted that for me. You guys might not know the power of your words on this forum but they have given me so much confidence. I appreciate the reassurance and the advice. Im going to do this and everything is going to be okay! Thank you all!

    serious second thoughts

Thank you guys so much for the advice. Im scared but I think its important I do this because youre right- life is too short to keep living this way. I have a meeting with my surgeon and my surgery is scheduled for the 15th of Feburary.

I think they allow it but they will probably just deny you personally. Since that's how your luck has it.
  5. I was too anxious to wait to hear from the insurance specialist at my surgeons office (shes on vacation for a week). So I called my insurance company who told me I was approved for surgery today! Im battling excitment and fear. I got really scared after the excitment of getting approved wore off. I spent some time reading the complication forum (mistake). My biggest fear is a blood clot from the actual surgery, where everything else seems to have a solution a blood clot would be unforeseeable. How did you guys get past your fears before surgery? Any words of encouragement would be appreciated!

Coeur D Alene Idaho Lets Chat

Gottalose...what have you done so far? I would recommend one of st. Lukes bariatric seminars. They do them at the st lukes down town and in meridian. I learned a lot, you get to hear about the surgery from the surgeons who perform them. Also you fill out your information right there at the seminar and the next day they are verifying your benefits and starting you on the process of insurance and preop appointments. Good luck!

  8. Im wondering if anyone cut it as close as im going to need to and how they did. I know everyone recovers differently- just looking for some averages here. I am a retail manager and can only take, at the most, 11 days off work. Was anyone else back this quickly? Im reading all the post op threads here and getting a little nervous!

    350+ Sleevers?

Thanks for all the information guys! Its good to be reminded that its possible to not be stuck at this weight forever... How about some pictures! Id love to see the transformations!
  12. I absoluelty love hearing everyones success stories..but im curious about those who were 350+ when they decided to get their sleeve. My current weight is 350, and although id welcome any weight loss at this point, my concern is that I could lose 150 pounds and STILL be overweight. I understand that no two stories are the same and that its my responsibility to facilitate my weight loss but lets face it-when making the decision to get the sleeve its nice to find the success stories that are relevant to your situation. So where are you all at?! Id love to hear about how the sleeve worked for you!
  13. Hi post sleevers! I like to excersie, unfortunately not as much as I like eating-as my weight went up, my energy levels dropped and quite frankly it hurts to be active at my current weight. Im looking forward to being able to exercise after surgery and im wondering how soon you guys worked exercise in after surgery? What type of activity did you find most rewarding without affecting your newly sleeved stomach? Im currently under the impression that for months after my surgery even laughing too hard will cause my stomach to burst open-is that something you have to be mindful of when starting a workout regimen?

    The "e" Word

Thanks for the info guys! I meet again with my surgeon too and have a whole list of questions...im glad that my idea that I would be fragile forever after the surgery is busted..I cant imagine 6 months out worrying if my stomach is gonna rupture from bending over!

    Mental Health Evaluation?

Thank you everyone for the advice. I had my appointment and it went alright. The psychologist cleared me for surgery...he only recommended that I reestablished with a therapist as I admited it was helpful for me in the past...next step is the nutritionist!
  17. Hi everyone! This is my first post on the site although ive been on here reading through your stories for weeks now! I have just started my journey to get the sleeve and im really excited but so nervous something will get in my way. Ive been obese my entire life and ive tried just about everything twice...in the past my insurance companies would not cover weight loss surgery and im so happy that my current insurance does. Ive attended a seminar amd met with my surgeon and my next step is a 3 hour mental health evaluation. Ive struggled qith anxiety and depression that ive always believed was directly tied to my weight...what can you guys tell me about this process? What sort of questions will I be asked and how should I prepare? Has anyone had the experience of being denied by the mental health evaluation? Id appreciate any info you can give me! Thanks!

    Mental Health Evaluation?

What confuses me is that I got to where I am by having an unhealthy relationship with food. If he is going to question me on that, I cant answer that ive somehow got it all figured out yet. Are they expecting me to have all my issues with food resolved before I get the only tool thats going to help me resolve them? Im good with my support system and my expectations of the surgery...I understand how extensively my life is going to change and what will be expected of me...but I cant for the life of me figure out how to explain that ive changed my relationship with food when the surgery is my solution to do that. Does that make sense?
