  1. I blended a bazillion cans of soup. And soup that I bought at a restaurant. I got sooooooooo sick of sugary tasting liquids. Broth is clear liquid, can of soup in blender is full liquid (unless there are chucks). The first month is hard but it gets better quickly! Hang in there!
  2. I was right there too. I went into a stall at the end of week 2 and didn't break it until the beginning of week 4. Very, very frustrating. But it'll break. My stall was more mental than anything. Just read the other posts out there. Stay on track. Keep moving. It'll break soon. I feel ya! I did finally measure myself at 1 month and it was shocking. That might help offset the disappointment of scale not moving. Hard to believe we can stall eating 509-600 calories a day isn't it!?!?

Am I FAT? Please tell me.

I think you look "normal". And "normal" in my book is not fat. I think a bunch of us hope to look normal someday (I'm early in my journey so that's one of my goals). Normal = not fat, normal clothes, don't stick out in the crowd, don't panic about fitting into a seat somewhere. You look healthy, thin and normal. I've struggled with what's my goal. I say 165 based on BMI but it's been almost 30 years since I weighed that. I have so far to go but one thing I've figured out, is this surgery definitely didn't fix my brain. The negative messages that play in my brain helped the vicious cycle that helped me weigh 325 pounds. I really, really, REALLY want to wake up someday and just be "normal". Normal in my brain and in my appearance. You look wonderfully normal to me! I have bad knees. I already meet criteria for a total knee replacement at 45 (although my goal is to delay that to 55). I love, love, love water aerobics. Not sure if you've ever done them but it really does burn calories and helps tone muscles. I can do some land exercises but I'll pay for it in pain. Exercise might get you where you want to be. But man, I'd kill to be a size 10 (maybe not kill but....).
  4. I'm just over 1 month. Tolerating everything so far. Just wondering when I should try protein bars again. Advice????
  5. I doubt I could eat a whole one. But I do need a snack before working out (I find I do better). Quest are so chewy though and I'm a little afraid of them this soon out.

    Getting food stuck?

Happened to me tonight. I didn't slime or throw up but was (am) miserable. I didn't eat too much but it was definitly too fast. Ouch. It's better now, an hour later, but I feel like I don't ever want to eat again. How long does this last? I came home from water aerobics and was HUNGRY. Big mistake!

    No rants or raves allowed!

Nailed it! The Bullies (not calling anyone in particular a bully but there are MOST definitly some around) and food Police are powerful in cyberspace. But, there is a lot of good here too. Some have a "unique" way of showing support. I've learned a lot and felt supported more often than not, but lately, there is a bunch of negativity going round. Just because the thought is there, doesn't always mean it needs to be said. Good God there are a billion snarky comments I would post but it's poor character to do so. Bullies like attention. I love sarcasm, and I like clever people. But have a little mercy when some stranger pours their soul out or has concerns that seem small to you. I think people can intelligently and respectfully disagree too. So if you rant about some group/person in particular, be prepared for feedback.

    Who is in March?

Is that 50 pounds since surgery or overall? We were sleeved on same day so I'm hoping I'm not that far behind! I'm 54 pounds down overall. 28 preop and the rest post op. High: 325 (maybe more) last August/September Day of surg: 297 3/13/14 One month post op: 275 I'm just glad the stall seems to be lifting.

    Weird feeling from drinking

Linda is right, we all lose differently. I lost 28 pre op. Dropped 18 the first two weeks post op and then NOTHING for 2 weeks (eating 400-700). It was maddening! Then the stall stopped about a week ago and I've lost 5 in the last week. I started exercising and started my diuretic back. I don't have all the answers. Stalks are real and mostly mental. Measure yourself ( I finally did last night) and it gives you a good mental boost. Just stick to the program. You got this!

    Weird feeling from drinking

Very normal. I'm one month post op. You feel everything that touches your stomach the first few weeks. You're still really swollen in there. The noise doesn't go away (or so I've heard). It does get easier each day to drink. Don't gulp. That hurts (still hurts some a month out). Lots of small sips (like all day long!). One thing that helped me in the first week was sugar free Popsicles. And warm tea, warm soups. But it sounds normal, at least I felt the same way during the early days. My stomach and intestines still make tons of noise.
  11. GNC has them but they are also available at Amazon.

    Who is in March?

Hey there March Sleevers! Just checking in. Today is my month anniversary. Feeling good. Stall has moved on. I hit 50 pounds lost today! Very exciting. That stall sucked! I measured myself tonight and I've lost 22 inches all over. Biggest loss was in boobs (go figure) and they are pathetic now. Wow! Had no idea they would droop that much so quickly! Ugh. Anyway, just wanted to encourage everyone to measure. I think I would not have been such a nutcase about the stall had I measured sooner. Sure has been an interesting month! Hope all of you are doing ok.
  13. I bought all the quest bars before surgery and never ate them. I'm doing fine but just now eating cooked veggies and ate half a small apple. The quest are chewy. I like them though. I have the higher Atkins ones but I don't think I could handle how sweet they are. Post op, I don't want anything super sweet.

    I'm in the medical field.

Off topic: My rave: I believe it was Man vs food? Fabulous grilled cheese sandwich joints!!! One had like 7 different cheeses with about 2 lbs of cheese on 2 hugely thick sourdough slices oozing all over the place. OMG, I nearly needed someone in the medical field. Preferably an ER RN please? At Whole Foods the other day, they were selling grilled PIMENTO cheese made on a panini press. I salivated a second and moved on. But man..... Also, I saw a food show about a Food Truck that only made grilled cheeses! Oh my God!!!!

    Had pancakes for breakfast

I was gonna buy the protein pancake mix I saw on Amazon. I can't remember the name. My family loves pancake night. I said I didn't really miss much since surgery. Then I read this post. Pancakes sound so good!
  16. I don't miss soda. I don't miss bread (shocker). I do miss alcohol (surprisingly) - just having social drinks with friends. I was a Margarita, 7n7, Jack n Coke kind of girl. I was out with friends last night to see Wicked. First time "out" since surgery. Everyone was drinking. I ordered a glass of red wine (which tasted good) but only had half a glass. I really wanted more, just couldn't do it. I don't really miss sugar. I miss being able to eat something in addition to protein. I'm usually too full to eat the veggies. But not complaining about any of it! Down almost 50 and feel too good to focus on the "can'ts" (although sometimes they sneak up on you)!

    I'm in the medical field.

If you rant in public, expect opposing view points to be given. Especially if it degrades or so flagrantly belittles a group of people. If the OP had stated "people should beware of taking medical advice online" <duh>, then it might not have gone down this path. Grilled cheese. Did someone say kraft singles, melted and perfectly crispy bread on the outside and ooey gooey on the inside? Nice way to redirect.

    fear of failing

One month post op and have to give myself a pep talk everyday!!!!! Just stay on course. I've been in a stall for 2 weeks. It's frustrating. Hang in there.

    Does anyone eat pizza?

Pepperoni, mushroom, extra cheese, regular crust. Oh. My. God. That's crack to me. I'm only 1 month post op. It's the ONLY food I think I'd be tempted by. Way too scared to try it yet. I hope someday I can look at it and not feel passion. I do want to try the Greek version version. Yum.

    Tips for a newbie runner

I've been here 23 years but married a Tennesean. I can go back and forth between my Michigan brogue and a Southern accent - depending on who I'm talking to. Nashville is thriving these days. It's come a long way! Sorry to the OP, we got off course.

What's the story behind your profile name?

Mine is from one of my favorite Bruce Springsteen songs (I'm a huge, obsessed fan). An old boyfriend used to sing it to me. I guess it makes me think of the "young and beautiful" days. I was (and am) jensnewjourney but that seemed a little vanilla.

    I'm in the medical field.

A cna is in the nursing field. Answers to the rn. A medical assistant and a physicians assist work in the medical as they answer to the physician. Semantics? And we ALL answer to the patient.

I'll do it. Thanks! For you runners: what weight were you when you started running?

    Tips for a newbie runner

I live in TN and used to ride (about 18 years ago) with my husband (who no longer rides but did seriously so in his younger days). He bought me a $800 bike that's been in our garage for a long time. It's probably rusted by now. The problem with TN is full of hills. I grew up in Michigan where everything is gloriously flat. Several of my friends who run have taken up biking. But they are all athletic. I am no where near able to bike with them. There are some good paved trails in Nashville and a big mountain biking trail near my house in Columbia. I loathed going up hill. Seriously ruined it for me. Does stationary biking or spin classes help build endurance? I've thought about stating there. I just feel like in still too big to "really" ride. But I do miss being outside.

    Stall is depressing me :-(

I could have written this post too! I was 4 weeks yesterday. Stalled for 2 weeks. But I've lost 46 total (28 pre and 18 post) and overall I'm glad for this. My diuretic/bp meds have been held since surgery and my leg lymph edema is getting worse. I had my one month today and got cleared to restart it. My legs are so swollen without it. The NP and NUT think this might be the reason for my stall. I know I'm doing stuff right. But to not see results - it screws with your brain. Still, let's stay the course and we'll get there - or at least get somewhere!!!!!
