I know how you feel. I hated doing the the pre-op diet too, at day one. I was frustrated, hungry, and started to switch to decaf coffee, which led to the next several days of headaches due to the caffeine withdrawal I was having. It is hard and frustrating, and I gave up several times thinking it may not be worth it. I kept talking with WLS surgery folks who have had it, there's at least one in my office, and the talks helped a lot. It helped greatly to log into 'Myfitnesspal.com' and keep a food diary. The conscious effort helped keep me in focus and concentrate on keeping my eye on the prize. There were plenty of over eating days, but you let that go and start over again. I wish you the best and hope you'll be able to get there.

Sounds like detoxing - aka the carb flu, which is horrid and why it is so hard for us to stop eating them. I am not sure what kind of pre-op your surgeon has you doing (mine was Atkins induction with clears 24 hours prior to surgery) but it gets better. Just remember to drink as much non-caloric fluid as you can get in ( I highly recommend chugging, as you will not be able to have the opportunity to do this again for a long time - I can do a mini-chug now at 3 months post op.) The fluids always seemed to make me feel better.
Just remember the purpose of the pre-op diet - to shrink your liver for optimal surgery results with fewer complications - soon enough you will be on the other side!

It's a journey well worth your time pre-op diet was supper hard for me but I pushed pasted it by not surrounding myself around food I didn't even cook for my family that week before surgery!
Day 3 will be easier and drink lot's of hot tea or hot brooth it really helped me. Life will ge better I'm post-op two months and it's an amazing feeling to be able to walk two miles and not stop every 15 to 20 steps to catch your breath!
It will get better and good luck with your journey!

I had a headach for about 3 days, it got easier!!! I think the second thoughts are how many times have we tried to diet and never worked.... That was my biggest fear, that this would not work for me!!......... I got over it by reading all the stories I could about sleeve and the positive side. The pictures, how happy people are now. That in 5 months or so you can eat "normal" if you wanna call it that but just very small portions!!!
    Good Luck!!

Best of luck Lila.. I too am waiting. I have my second appointment the same day you have your first. I have been through a lot of the before tests. the only thing I have left is the heart doctor (wanted to wait closer to surgery for that). It has been kind of a whirlwind trying to get it all done. Many tests and doctors visits, Now I found out that my PCD is leaving practice and now I must find a new one. Something else to consume my time finding a good Dr, It took 2 months to find the doctor for the sleeve surgery. Went to many meetings and researched for hours and finally found an experienced one on the sleeve. My insurance makes you wait 90 days from the first appointment which puts me at the end of september. Then the dr office said 2-4 weeks after that. Hope it is sooner and not later. Getting too close to the holidays.
Best of luck to you and keep us infomed.

Im in the same boat. I see the surgeon for the first time on Friday and have ot wait for other clearance as well. I decide to challenge myself to a 24 hour liquid diet just today. So far I've had plenty of water, a strawberry banana shake by atkins, tomato soup for lunch and Im gonn try another protein shake later and more water than I can stand. Thanks for the tip about optifast I'll try that at a later date. This whole process is definately a huge lifestyle change. Best wishes to ya

Lissa_S got a reaction from Mz_Elle in Energy Needed....
Hi - I haven't been sleeved so to a certain extent I will say that I don't know what I am talking about. But sometimes with low energy (generally from a medical perspective) it can be helpful to adjust your expectation of yourself during this period. For now, it might be tough to do all you used to do. That's okay - you've had major surgery. If you can adjust your expectation about what you're going to be able to do it might make it easier to cope. You'll be kinder to yourself, take more breaks and not push yourself to the "limit". Sure you still may struggle wtih low energy but it may not worry you quite as much.
I hope this is helpful Cheers, Lila

"Failure" is not in falling down, or making mistakes, or in actions we regret, but in giving up. You haven't done that, Shelli D. If you put the whole thing in a different perspective, you're doing better than average. Or use another habit (other than food) as an example of what you're trying to accomplish. If you want to stop chewing your fingernails, you can count on at least six weeks of mindfulness, and in that six weeks, you will chew your nails. Possibly right off. But they grow back, and you learn to keep your hands busy and your fingers out of your mouth. lol
Don't confuse set backs with failure. You're right that we can't just give up food, but the mindfulness we need is the new habit we want to cultivate. And next time those "f'd up already, might as well do x, y, or z" thoughts happen, you'll have that mindfulness a little quicker, and that little longer willpower. Maybe enough even to get yourself to somewhere or someone who can distract you from the action of the old habits.
You can do it. In fact, you already are. Go, you!
