Also taking these Proton Pump Inhibitors have a lot of side effects and long term can cause kidney disease. I only take 1 Protonic a day (because I have to) and a Tums when needed. I just hope all us sleevers don't have any serious problems from these meds. Had I known................

    First of all Merry Christmas.
I never had GERD or stomach issues before the sleeve. I have had 2 endoscopies and I have non-healing ulcerated stricture of the esophagus which was caused from the GERD thus the 2 pantoprazole a day.
I now weigh 163, I forgot how to change my weight and ticker, and I did it by Intermittent Fasting - I eat only with in 8 hrs a day. I'm amazed how well it works and I do low carb. My goal is 142 lbs so 21 to go and I'm doing it by intermittent fasting. Lots of FB groups for it and info out there.

Research the good and the bad of surgery. I would also suggest before surgery trying IF and low carb. I don't know how much you have to loose, your age or health but with surgery there is no going back. Truthfully if I had to do it over again I wouldn't of had surgery. In truth I wanted an easy and fast fix. Surgery is not it. I have had to take stool softeners since surgery due to Constipation. One good thing it did was normalize my BP which was only a little high.
I hope I've helped you a little with your choice and please remember there is no going back after surgery so research all you can and the Dr doing the surgery plays a big part.

I've had the sleeve for 6 yrs and I have had gerd since day 1. My Dr never told me this was a side effect of sleeve. I am now on pantoprazole 2x a day and have had 2 endoscopies because of the gerd. If I had to do it over again I would of done intermittent fasting and very low carb to carnivore and not done surgery. I only lost 25 lbs and am doing IF to get the rest off.

I'm 72, almost 6 yrs after sleeve, taking Prilosec since surgery. Had acid reflux before but last night woke me up w/acid in throat and mouth.
Has anyone else had problems w/this? I see a new PCP monday due to mine going concierge. Any info appreciated.

@Berry78 thanks for replying to all of them!
My doctor has me on track to get to 178lbs. This is my goal weight with them, but isn't my healthy bmi goal weight. I do need to emphasize that although folks may believe their set point has arrived, it does not mean that it is indeed it or has to stay there. The sleeve does about 60-65% of the work for you really (provided you stick with your plans)...the other 35-40% we have to do on our own. This is why we adopt better lifestyles in diet and exercise during the first year so we can continue it all and make the goals we want to achieve. You will have to fight the "set point" that you believe you're in. You will have to change up your routines, in diet and exercise. You all can do this....keep your chins up!
And congrats on all of your successes. I hope to hear this when I've made my 60-65% as well.

You've lost about exactly 65% of your excess weight, just as expected! Congrats!!

You could have expected to lose another 10lbs, so it's true that you lost a bit less than average. Age, very well may play a part in that. So happy you have gained health (which IS the most important thing!).

Brenda, you've lost pretty much exactly as expected. 303 down to 210 is awesome!! Surgery typically only gets you down 2/3 of the way to a "normal" bmi. It did that for you!! Congrats!!

I am having a similar issue, although I've lost more than 25. I'm 38 and am coming up on 1 yr. I have lost 90lbs total, but 33 were prior to surgery. I've been between 208 and 214 for almost 7 months. I don't get much excersize (besides chasing a 3yr old around) and let some carbs back in but nothing crazy. So depressing

It is confusing and a daily struggle. Not where I wanted to be. Would like to at least get to 165. If not lower.

I'm in the same boat- I'm 43 but only lost for the first 3-4 months- I'm 9 months out and haven't lost in 5 months! I was 326 on surgery day and now at 185- what's going on with this? Is it the set point thing? If so, didn't we have set points earlier in life that our body could jump to? I mean- how RUDE is our bodies to just quit losing like this! Lol
I wish I knew what we all could do-

I had the sleeve 3 yrs ago at 67. I've lost 27 lbs and since then I'm stuck. The sleeve is not a cure all. I've have to take a Prilosec for acid indigestion everyday for life which is a side effect of the sleeve that almost everyone gets and also Constipation. You can gain back any weight you've lost w/the sleeve and then some. My energy is about the same. Some days I have more than others. I think getting older slows us down and living in a hot region plays a part.
It sounds like your unsure about this and since you've lost weight on your own I'd suggest doing your diet or The Whole 30, go to Tops or just eat vegs, Protein and fruit to loose weight. If you have complications with surgery before your best bet might be to wait and loose the weight on your own. Once you do this there is no going back. If you don't have major medical problems that need you to loose weight then wait. So if in doubt......don't. It has been a life saver for many and for others a big problem as you've read. Would I do it again? I really don't know. I had a highly rated surgeon which makes a difference.
I wish you luck on what ever you decide to do.

Sherry S got a reaction from melyle in Help Frustrated Constant Heartburn for 7 years
Since sleeve surgery I have heartburn. I take 1 prilosec at night. I get mine from Mexico when I go there because I get 120 capsules of the generic for $3 compared to 42 for $18 in the states. The meds there are just as good as what I get in the US and much more reasonable. That is why so many people go to Algodones MX for dental and Rx's. If I do not take it the heartburn comes back. I didn't realize it was a side effect of the sleeve. I've only lost 25 lbs total and have been stuck for almost 3 yrs at current weight unless I go on a super restrictive diet of which at 70 I'm not about to do. I only need to loose 25 lbs or so.
I would check BP sleeve complications groups and soon as you get Medicare consider like berry said a RNY revision. If you close to Miami I would check out Dr's there or what ever US city would be closest to fly to. Good luck and keep us informed on your progress

My BP has been normal since surgery but then it wasn't that bad before. Like I said if in doubt don't. You can loose the weight w/o the surgery. It will be hard but if you've lost it before you can do it now but it's tough. The sleeve takes out most of your stomach which can cause issues in some people. Your health both mental and physical is the important thing. If your afraid then I'd say don't do it at this time. If your healthy and doing well loose the weight by yourself. TOPS is a great support group and reasonable about $42 a yr for national and $4 a month for local support group. Check it out. Their eating plan works.
I doubt you'll get many responses for people don't seem to stay on the group after their surgery. Life gets in the way I guess.
Good luck and Blessings to you too.

I know 3 other woman our age, 2 got bypass and 1 the sleeve and have not gotten down to their goal weight. I don't know what the answer is that is why I posted on a couple forums about not loosing all the weight w/no answers.
I've noticed that a lot of people post before and right after they get the surgery then drop off the forum. I know I've been one of them and it was because it was mostly newbys.
I wish more people would of answered my question.
    I'll message you.

I lost most of my weight in the first 10 months also. Now I am focusing less on Protein, more on fat and keeping carbs low...Still researching but may be heading towards low carb mediteranean diet.

I totally agree w/Living Free to stay away from the complications forum and to research and have faith in your Dr and yourself. That forum is there if there are problems.
I'm 67, surgery Feb 17 and doing great. I have had 2 hip resurfacings in (06 &08) due to osteoarthritis and don't know that they're not my own hips. I did not want to outlive my hips so got the sleeve and what a difference almost 30 lbs lost make. My quality of life has improved so much. It's a slow weight loss for me the last month but that's ok slow wins the race.
The only problem I had is I have to take a Prilosec 1x a day for acid indigestion. My Dr said this could happen but it's no biggie. The other is Constipation. I have to take a higher dose stool softener before bed. Small price to pay IMHO for health. I can tie my shoes w/o cutting my breath off from the fat. I'm bowling and walking/exercise in the pool and just enjoying life.
Trust in yourself and your Dr. BELIEVE you are going to have a good surgery, post op and life. Say "when" I loose this weight instead of "if". When I wear a size... (10 that's my mantra, I'm in a 14). Put a positive spin on all your thoughts with I can, I will, when I. You can do this.
    Good luck

I'm 65 and just had my nine month surgiversary. I've lost 98 pounds, all my bloodwork was normal. I exercise at the Y twice a week and can eat anything with no problem. I avoid bread and Pasta most of the time but don't feel like I'm on a diet. I just have a new way of eating and eat so much less. I'm very happy and healthy.

I'm 62 and just had my 8/8/16. Just saw my surgeon today and everything is just fine. I've lost 43 pds since starting journey first of May.
The big shocker to me today was he told me when he got back the pathologhy report, it seem I had a cancerous tumor that was self contain in the stomach part they took out. He then stated had I not had the surgery I would have never know about this until too late. I truly feel blessed for this surgery.
