Because i'm waiting to be approved by insurance all paper work got turn in last Thursday & i have friends telling me...why would u let someone cut on u...why would u get that done....i hear folks getting sick after that...u dont need that...i can already feel the negative talk & I haven't got approved yet:(. But stand firm & hold your head high- U look great.

So I'm 5 days post-op, very nauseas and refluxie..it s rough. Please pray for me, I just got home today, praying for a speedy recovery!!! Thanks guys!

I was sleeved yesterday around 2 or 3 pm. My surgery was delayed due to an emergency My surgeon got called to do. I was pretty calm the whole time. My hospital offered aroma therapy and they had very soft music playing in the background so that helped calming my nerves. Woke up from surgery in a lot of pain, and excruciating pain in my chest from the gas. Was given pain meds and As soon as I was in my room I did some walking and that helped so much. I slept pretty well on my back. Today in the morning I woke up with minimal gas pain and very little incision pain. What is most annoying is the nausea and occasional headaches. Meds can take care of that. So for those of you worried about the pain levels, there's really not much that can't be taken away with pain meds. Walking is extremely important for the gas. I was given some broth, Jello, tea, Italian ice and Water for dinner. The broth tasted like food for the gods and so did the ice but I couldn't eat not even half of both. Slow sips are the trick. Now I'm in bed typing this and so happy that I found this site with so many wonderful people and inspirational stories and great advice. I thank you all. I gained four pounds since surgery after losing six on my 7 day preop diet. I'm not stressed though cause I know it's all the IV Fluid. Anyway, you all take care. It feels pretty awesome finally being on the losers bench! XO to all!

Funny how I had pretty much the same response from friends and even my husband. I guess I will find out soon enough if they will remain my friends after my surgery. As for my husband, I think he is more nervous I am going to look like my sister who had the gastric bypass from 400 lbs to 140 lbs and she does not look well at all. A lot of sagging skin. So for him, I think he is scared I will look like that or so I hope that is his concern. Time will tell.

AWWW thanks. as far as the journey itself, its actually been much easier than I thought it would be going into this. When I first started coming on this site there were a couple stories that nearly scared me out of the surgery. Remember that everyone's journey is their own and may differ in many ways. For me it was a walk in the park. right after surgery I would get this really bad acid reflux and it was terrible!!! It lasted about 2 months for me and now its gone.. and it never came back. Nothing nearly as bad as that to talk about. as far as excess skin, I don't have much at all and wont be needing any plastics. my tummy is not the best looking but its flat and doesn't hang over. Try using coco butter to moisturize your skin because it helps keep the skin tight (or whatever moisturizer u use) I don't wear any compression garments under my clothes but I will say I miss my bootie and boobies....lol..............I added a pic I took at work today. Good luck on your surgery and get over here on this losers bench:)

your so right about some people envying our success. Your Insurance will approve it and you'll be on the losers bench in no time. There's a young lady at my job that is considering having the vsg surgery and came to me for advice. she said she was so impressed by my results and knows that's the surgery for her. as I began to tell her the wonderful things about the surgery, another co-worker walks up and says, "Don't do it girl, I know somebody that died from that surgery." so I turn to her and say, what surgery? and she says, "Gastric Bypass right?" uuuummm no!!! she was so set on being negative that not only did she butt into our conversation but she didn't know what she was talking about!! The best advice I can give you is to do as my research as you can on the vsg surgery to be sure its the surgery for you! Don't listen to the negative people that may try to talk you out of the surgery.( I had lots of those) and PRAY on it because only God knows what's best for you

Thank you all for your wonderful comments...I forget that I fit right in here. Where I'm from, people do more staring and whispering about my weight loss than complimenting as my vsg family does. One guy flat out asked if I was sick....like really? I've somehow lost a couple friends after my surgery but hey I guess they were seasonal friends anyway...lol....This surgery is one of the best things I've ever done for myself and I feel great now. Talk about non scale victories....omg. Thank God for this surgery:)

Hello everyone its been 10 months since my surgery and I'm really happy I did it! I can eat a little more than I could at like 5 months out and even find myself trying to gain a few pounds back....at 5'5 168lbs I feel extremely skinny:) I know, its what I always wanted but would be happy to stay exactly where I am now(Weight wise) I wish all of you much success no matter if your pre or post op!! I'm here to answer any questions you have. Pics are attached! the first is at my heaviest of 250lbs and the other was taken at 168lbs

Nice transformation. Great job. Next week will be a year for me too. And last checked I was done 70 lbs. at 127 now & would like to stay where I am. My body has been playing with the last 3-4 lbs, so I think I'm at my plateau as predicted by my doctor.

I just had my surgery 10/23 I'm 6 days post op n I feel great! Surgery went great n yes I did feel pain once I woke up n was already in my recovery room but lil by lil I stayed strong. Since my week of pre op 10/16 till now I've lost a total of 30lbs so I can already tell this is going very well for me. I'm so glad I decided on the sleeve because first I was going to do the lapband. I'm still on the liquid diet pretty soon I'll start on soft foods I can't wait because getting tired of broth lol

Hi everyone, this is my first post and I'm a little nervous but here goes!! I had my surgery on January 1 2013 and at my biggest i was 295. I had a really easy time with the surgery, no troubles at all! now almost 9 months out I weigh 190! I still want to loose 40 more.

Cigna is pretty much the same all around
1. 90 days weight loss .. I was not required to loose wt, in fact I gained some, just have my food and wt and exercise monitored. so thats 4 doctor visits over 4 months.... and they have to keep close notes on your food, exercise and wt. Its in the details. Must be detailed. Some times your surgeon can recommend a good doctor for this part. Sometimes the PCP arent too familjar with the requirements
2. BMI min of 40 or 35 with 2 co morbid
and most important...
3. Your PCP statement must say
He gives clearance and you are recommended for surgery. It took me I don't know how many tries to get my PCP to get it right.
If you have any heart conditions, they will sometimes make you get clearance from them. I just needed a EKG at the hospital, I have Afib.
4. Meeting with dietician. Needs recommendation from them also
5. Psyc exam. to make sure you are able to handle whats coming. My surgeons office also recommended someone. Again, went to another one and he was clueless as to what was needed.
6. Surgeons recommendation and approval.
Don't be afraid to ask the surgeon staff about referrals or recommendations.. Its so much quicker!!

Started with a 35 BMI, was told to lose no weight before surgery on 5/17 - down 56 pounds and 4 dress sizes.

I confess that I Have no ideal how to eat right still I'm on soft food so I eat and puke
I confess that food is always on my mind and whatever I eat is not keeping me full
I confess that maybe I should be walking more then I could but the pain is was keeping me from doing anything
I confess that I'm doing this all alone and no support from anyone

I'm back!!
- I confess that I really miss ice cold coca cola
- I confess that I love the way I feel now
- I confess that I am afraid of vomitting therefore I am afraid of trying new foods....
- I confess that I crave salt and vinegar chips
- I confess that I would REALLY love a glass of wine
-I confess that I feel skinnier than I am right now
- I confess that I often wonder if I'll ever be able to eat certain foods ever again.... Like cheese enchiladas
- I confess that I am not perfect, but I am doing my best.

1. I confess that I never have gotten in all my fluids, Protein, and Vitamins on the same day.
2. I confess that I haven't been to the gym since June.
3. I confess that I enjoy a few cocktails per month.
4. I confess that I like the look on people's faces that I have seen since surgery.
5. I confess that before surgery I was in such a deep lonely depression that I didn't think I deserved to live.
