  1. Funny how I had pretty much the same response from friends and even my husband. I guess I will find out soon enough if they will remain my friends after my surgery. As for my husband, I think he is more nervous I am going to look like my sister who had the gastric bypass from 400 lbs to 140 lbs and she does not look well at all. A lot of sagging skin. So for him, I think he is scared I will look like that or so I hope that is his concern. Time will tell.

You look FABULOUS and seeing your pics is so inspirational. Congrats on your success!!!

Thanks for all the advice...i appreciate it! Can't wait till i get my surgery date- just ensure your hubby you trying to live longer & be in good health. How much weight u trying to lose...well whats your goal plans?

  2. Thank you all for your wonderful comments...I forget that I fit right in here. Where I'm from, people do more staring and whispering about my weight loss than complimenting as my vsg family does. One guy flat out asked if I was sick....like really? I've somehow lost a couple friends after my surgery but hey I guess they were seasonal friends anyway...lol....This surgery is one of the best things I've ever done for myself and I feel great now. Talk about non scale victories....omg. Thank God for this surgery:)

Glad U feel good...for some reason when when u start to excel & be happy about yourself...others envy that! Because i'm waiting to be approved by insurance all paper work got turn in last Thursday & i have friends telling me...why would u let someone cut on u...why would u get that done....i hear folks getting sick after that...u dont need that...i can already feel the negative talk & I haven't got approved yet:(. But stand firm & hold your head high- U look great.

  3. Hello everyone its been 10 months since my surgery and I'm really happy I did it! I can eat a little more than I could at like 5 months out and even find myself trying to gain a few pounds back....at 5'5 168lbs I feel extremely skinny:) I know, its what I always wanted but would be happy to stay exactly where I am now(Weight wise) I wish all of you much success no matter if your pre or post op!! I'm here to answer any questions you have. Pics are attached! the first is at my heaviest of 250lbs and the other was taken at 168lbs

    U look great!!

  4. My weight is 234-236 depending on the day. I believe my band slipped since I really can't get meats and most veggies in without feeling stuck and or vomit. I have grown tired of feeling this way. Really sad since I really don't actually eat much but having to eat more carbs because they go down easier. Ohh and liquids like Soup. If its too chunky that doesn't work well either. I would have been rolling about a month ahead of now but my last surgeon hasn't released my records, so I have to go get them. The waiting really sucks since my insurance has no required 6 month recorded diet or anything like that.

Sorry U going threw that.....i hear alot of folks with the band throw-up alot...that has to be tough. Hopefully you'll be sleeve soon & get past that!

  5. I didn't need the pain meds ever. My commute to work is between 1 hour and 20 minutes and 2 hours if there is major traffic, my commute home is between 1 and half hours to 3 hours depending on the day of the week and traffic. And my surgeon said the risk of blood clots sitting in that position that long is too high. She was very strict on my not driving till 6 weeks out... Not being in a car or same position for more than 30 minutes at a time unless I was sleeping.< /p>

Oh ok...I understand. I just pray to get approved...this waiting its driving me crazy!!! lol

  6. I am in the process of getting a revision from the lap band. I had 4 weeks off then but I thought that was too long then. I was feeling much better at about 2 weeks. I stopped taking the pain meds after about a week, I was in very minor pain by then. I don't think I can last 4 weeks staying home.

Auri...whats your weight & how much u trying to lose?

  7. My surgeon made me take 6 weeks. I went on short term disability. I only work in optometry but its a very busy office. But also I commute and the chance of blood clots was much too high so she made me take 6 weeks that ended up 8 weeks. Because of a kidney infection and kidney stones.

But I'd take as much time as your surgeon feels is necessary

Thats nice u got that much time...i work with 2 other co-workers & they was off 2 weeks. The dr. i see only give u 3 weeks off but if u okay in 2 weeks he send u back to work...

I'm a medical clerical assistant...at the desk all the time & if i'm approved i'm taking 2 weeks off work! I'm waiting on insurance approval- fingers crossed!

  9. Pretty good! Glad I am on regular foods and feel pretty normal again. Clothes are starting to loosen up. Ive lost 24 lbs so far but I can feel a difference in my activity level, can tie my shoes without a moan, fit in airline seat. its great to feel those things again. 24lbs isn't much but hey its more than I could alone without this.

I had 80/20 insurance. Just got hit with bill from Anesthesiologist. That was an extra 700 bucks, hospital was additional 500... just waiting on the doctor bill...ugh so Im already up to 2300 out of pocket. first 1300 didn't count because its the doctors scam portion of all this. The little extras my doc and may others throw in that they make you give to pay for their staff. Like doctors "deposits"... Im filing a claim with my insurance for that anyway. Will see how that goes lol.

Good luck on your approval. They were most critical of the 90 day diet, yes its actually 120 days because first appt doesn't count. And the appts have to be more than 30 days from each other or they don't count either.

I really hope it works out...if not i'll have to work on plan B....out of pocket! But I hope to hear something next week. how long did it take for u to get a response? How long was U off from work? 2 weeks? 3 weeks...longer?

  10. Cigna is pretty much the same all around

    1. 90 days weight loss .. I was not required to loose wt, in fact I gained some, just have my food and wt and exercise monitored. so thats 4 doctor visits over 4 months.... and they have to keep close notes on your food, exercise and wt. Its in the details. Must be detailed. Some times your surgeon can recommend a good doctor for this part. Sometimes the PCP arent too familjar with the requirements

    2. BMI min of 40 or 35 with 2 co morbid

    and most important...

    3. Your PCP statement must say

He gives clearance and you are recommended for surgery. It took me I don't know how many tries to get my PCP to get it right.

If you have any heart conditions, they will sometimes make you get clearance from them. I just needed a EKG at the hospital, I have Afib.

    4. Meeting with dietician. Needs recommendation from them also

    5. Psyc exam. to make sure you are able to handle whats coming. My surgeons office also recommended someone. Again, went to another one and he was clueless as to what was needed.

    6. Surgeons recommendation and approval.

Don't be afraid to ask the surgeon staff about referrals or recommendations.. Its so much quicker!!

Good luck to you. Don't be like me and think your doing everything and have to start over. I started in Jan with my PCP, Had to start over in April. Approved. Sept 6th. Sleeved 30th.

Wow...How U been doing with your weight loss?

  11. Am going thru the 90 days now (Cigna) and my PCP let me author the letter so more details were added than he would have included. My 90 days are Aug, Sept & Oct. I hope to submit all of my stuff to Cigna the first week in Nov. Hope to get approval by end of Nov. and my surgery in Dec. my BMI is 37 & one co-morbid (Cigna said I only needed one). Do any of you who have more experience than me think this time frame is unrealistic?

I had to do 4 PCP appts...July, Aug, Sept & Oct...I have Cigna! They said July-Aug 30days...Aug-Sept 60 days, Sept to Oct 90days....so U will probably need another appt. So acutally its 4 months;( But everything else is done..i went to a nutritional assessment & had a psych assessment...eveything got submitted to insurance this week & i'm waiting to hear some in 2 weeks from insurance!!
