  1. Soft fish was allowed during my puree phase, but a lot of docs have different opinions - do you have access to a nutritionist you can contact to confirm?

Thai food isn't super popular where I am, so I have no idea what might be good on the menu - I hope you find something tasty and safe!

  2. I eat the baked ricotta now, on regular foods - it's good! Made me violently ill on purees though, which sucked. You know when you have that taste in your mouth for something, how disappointing it is when it doesn't work out?

Anywho, I tended to go for the same things a lot on purees. pureed ground beef and green Beans (a couple of times I mashed a hunk of potato in there with it for texture), and pureed chicken with a squirt of lime juice were my two standby's. Mashed Beans went down well, too.

    Good luck, and congratulations!

  3. My friend, it's a HUGE commitment and a major life change - if you didn't have moments of second thoughts, I'd worry about you! And everything seems so much more difficult when you're hungry.

What I CAN tell you is that, statistically speaking, there's a REALLY good chance everything is going to be just fine. All those feelings you've got now are normal.

Yesterday I read a story about an agoraphobic woman who left her house for the first time in 10 years and fell in a sinkhole - no joke! The truth is, I kind of went into surgery feeling like that would be me. I'd finally try something drastic to take control, and be the anomaly that ends up with complications or bigger than I started. Neither thing happened, and other than 3 weeks of a nagging pain in my right side and a monster case of what felt like morbid Constipation, it all turned out alright. I have two regrets - getting myself in the position of NEEDING surgery, and waiting so damn long to do it.

I wish you had someone to go with you. Heck, if I had two nickels to rub together right now and some time off work, I'D go, lol. But if you can get past the jitters and go for it anyway, I think you're going to be really happy that you did!

  4. At just a few weeks. It's not the all-consuming, insatiable hunger I felt before surgery though - and it's not necessarily a bad thing if your body lets you know your tank is empty!

OTOH, sometimes thirst and acid can mimic hunger. If I feel unusual hunger, I'll sometimes pop a Tums (in case it's breakthrough acid - I'm on a PPI too, but it won't hurt anything) and drink a glass of Water to see if that takes care of it before I eat off schedule.

  5. As soon as I was transitioned to "regular" food, I was told I could try it - but like everything else, to try one component at a time and don't eat it again for a while if it doesn't work the first time. I've had no issues with it, and eat salad almost every day...mostly out of laziness, because I live alone and dirtying a pot to cook enough veggies for just me seems pointless :)

  6. I subscribe to Ipsy, and last month I got a sample of Dr. Brandt Pores-no-more anti-aging mattifying lotion. My skin has swung from super oily to dry but still breaking out and kind of crepey since surgery. This stuff is fantastic. I just wish I could afford the full sized one!

  7. @@XXShelXX, I love that!

Ok, got one: you know that feeling you get in your lungs when you do an unusual amount of cardio? Where you feel like they're kind of...stretched? I've been getting that feeling for the last 10 pounds or so without doing more exercise. It's like my lungs finally have enough room to fully expand and I'm getting air in places that didn't get enough before.

  8. Anyone have one?

What do you think of it? Would you recommend it?

It looks like fun, but I don't want to waste money on something that isn't going to be a good investment.

    Thanks!

  9. The biggest unpleasant surprise was the Masonry Poops - I actually do seem to shit bricks. I'm in the "add Fiber and colace" part of trying to get a fissure to go away now. Don't take it lightly when your doctors suggest that you have stuff on hand for post-op for whatever might end up coming out (or not coming out, as the case may be). Use it liberally. Add Fiber. Drink lots. Complain often, lol.

The BEST surprise was how fast all those obesity related aches and pains started going away. My legs and feet stopped aching within a couple of weeks. No more back pain, stairs aren't as much of an issue as they were the FIRST time I was this weight (and I'm still really large), etc.

  10. I'm like you, I don't think I'll EVER enjoy exercise. I came out of the womb preferring to curl up in the corner with a book, lol. It's important though, so I try to give myself a lot of options. I have a gym membership and always keep gym clothes in the car, I've got a couple of videos I like at home and some cheap weights I picked up at Five Below, and a Fitbit.

When I'm feeling particularly sloth-like and haven't done much for longer than I think is healthy, I'll try to set up a session with a trainer. Once I've sunk the money into it and they expect me to show up, I won't bail - sometimes that's enough to get the momentum going again.

  11. I wanted to love them, but they reminded me of these awful boxes of dried scalloped potatoes (old dried potatoes and yucky powdered cheese) my mother used to buy. Bought one of each flavor, and couldn't give them away at work - people tried them, no one liked them.

Not much of a salty snack person, but if I NEEEED something (and sometimes I think we all feel that way), I'm a fan of the Health Wise dill pickle flavored Protein krinkles.

  12. Oh gosh - yeah, you can run into some characters out there!

I met a woman in my first class who told me my surgeon was no good, that her surgery was better because she was "only getting cut once" but I was "getting cut 5 times", and that I was going to be unhappy because she was getting a bypass and would lose more weight than me.

Sometimes all you can do is nod, smile, and tune out the noise!

  13. Some of it depends on which brands you choose, too. I found some that I like and my bloodwork is good, but it does amount to a lot of pills. If I switched to something else, I could probably cut the supplements/vitamins in half.

    AM:

    2 fish oil

    1 antacid

    1 gall bladder pill

    1 B12

    1 Iron

    2 mvi's

    1 Vitamin D

    2 Fiber gummies

    1 Biotin

    Lunch:

    3 Calcium (makes 1 serving)

    Late afternoon:

    3 calcium (makes 1 serving)

    Bedtime:

    1 more gall bladder pill

    1 anxiety pill

    1 blood pressure pill

3 more calcium (for the last 500 mg)
